What our customers say about their holidays

    • Liz - Verified booking

I have had the most wonderful stay at the wagon house .

Trudi and Sam are perfect hosts and the cottage had every possible home comfort , with great attention to detail. Trudi is very creative and it’s a very nice touch that her nature focused embroidery and art work complement the decor . I liked the mushrooms and pheasant especially . I’ve already let them know how much my stay meant to me , and will definitely be returning there . Peace, quiet, comfort , beautiful surroundings ( which have helped me to relax and recuperate- so needed ), deep sleep due to the quiet and lack of light pollution, lots for me to enjoy nature wise with my camera were all highlights and I’ve come away feeling far better after only a few short days. It is in Lovely locality with super walks directly from the cottage ( this time a help to me as I didn’t have my car with me ) to the local church at Lezant ( medieval, beautiful ) , and quaint Cornish cottages everywhere a photographers delight but the lake and woodland walk available to the cottage ( as are all the grounds and gardens ) were delightful. I’d hoped to see their kingfisher but I think it was a tad too cold this time of year to sit at the birdwatching seat too long. ( spring summer and autumn would be perfick for this ). The adorable book nook ( which is a cute steepled little brick alongside the cottage , with a stained glass window and seat in to sit in at any time of day or night ( there is a light ) absolutely enchanted me . I did again sit in for a while but too cold ( below freezing ) this particular stay for a long read. The cottage was very comfortable and warm . Lots provided to do of an evening too with the well stocked book shelf and games. WiFi dependable too. All in all a marvellous stay , I had a couple of queries whilst there which were very easily sorted. Trudis delicious home made scones and jam and the wine in the welcome pack were much appreciated ( hubby enjoyed the scones and I enjoyed the jams over several days - the crabapple jelly being especially yummy ). Thank you Trudi and sam for making me so welcome. See you soon liz .

We had asked before booking if the garden was secure as we were bringing our 2 dogs.

The reply from Sykes Cottages was "The owner has come back to us and said yes the garden is enclosed. We have dogs and ensure the property is dog friendly" On arrival, I was concerned about some areas of the fencing as there were some large gaps between the wires (especailly as there were sheep in the next field) but the front corner of the wall/fencing wasn't secure at all, due to the gradiant of the ground, it was just a step over for the dogs to get out. It took our older Golden Retriever just under 30 mins to find teh gap! Shame, as it put a dampner on being able to just let them out, especially first thing on a morning, the last thing you want to do on holiday is have to get dressed to let the dogs out. It meant anytime the dogs were in the garden they had to be on a lead, with one of us stood with them. I would not consider the garden to be enclosed/secure. Teh bungelow it's self has great facilities dishwasher, washing machine / dryer but no washing line? I'd really encourage the owners to provide a washing line. Main bedroom. There was a comfortable double bed, but it would have been a nicer stay if the bed had been a king, Properly sounds petty to some, but the sheets should have been ironed and towels should be provided. Rubbish and recycling - suggestion to the owners to add to the guest informaton re what bin is used for what, as it's so different depending on where you live. Overall, we would recormmend the property to other guests, the view is it's best asset, truly amazing.

We arrived for a short break to attend a family funeral, Trudie said we were able to arrive earlier than the published time and met us on arrival to show us around and how things worked.

One of my sons arrived much later in the evening and was only able to stay one night, due to workcommitments. Trudie showed us where he could park. The property is on the owner's grounds, just before you get to their house. It has it's own courtyard directly outside the back door, which looks out onto a folly set up as a reading room. The cottage was large, nicely laid out and we felt at home and comfortable straight away. The kitchen had everything you could ever need. The beds were comfortable and loads of towels were supplied. Having the conservatory was a dream and it didn't stop the views from the lounge. The views were spectacular, over looking a beautiful lake. We were allowed to walk the dog around the lake and fields if we wanted to. We walked her around the lake and she had a few paddles which she loved. The welcome pack of homemade scones, jam and cream and a bottle of wine was very much appreciated. Trudie made us feel very welcome, even coming over to see how the funeral went. We enjoyed our stay (apart from the circumstances) very much and the weather was good, the grounds lovely, so we didn't feel the need to travel around, we were happy to stay and just relax. We would love to return again in the future. Trudie, thank you so much.

Cottage is comfortable with views to die for.

There should be some separate notices printed near appliances such as the electric hob and heating controls to keep it simple and cost effective. Searching through a book full of instructions just to find out how to turn things on was frustrating. Not everyone is all electric at home. Some previous customers had not cleaned the oven. Could not find instruction on recycling. Refuse collector came on Tuesday he said put all the rubbish in the brown bin and they sort it, this is rather different from where we come from. I should be pointed out the cottage is remote and a round trip of 40 mins to the nearest shop if you want anything. It is nice to be able to take your dog, the fencing around the property is adequate for a small dog but a larger dog would jump it easily. Their were sheep right up to the boundary fence. Dog owners must be responsible..... A very nice property in a beautiful location just plan your days out and don’t forget anything. Your sat nav will take you a different way to what is described in the instructions. Both ways come down to narrow country lanes, there are two ways to arrive at Summer court.

Had a wonderful stay at the Wagon House.

We had pretty awful weather, but the little house was very homely, warm and comfortable and it was actually quite nice watching the wind and rain from the comfy sofa! The new bathroom refit had literally just been completed when we got there, so there was a little bit of residue building dust but nothing of any concern and the house was otherwise clean and tidy. Very impressed with the well equipped kitchen (so nice to go somewhere and find little everyday things tin foil, washing up liquid and pegs!). Bedding was impressively soft and warm despite very low temperatures for the first couple of days. Enjoyed a couple of lake walks when not raining, the site is well maintained with a good path around most of it, though walking boots or wellies needed after the rain. Must say that the Wi-Fi was very good and strong and had no problems with signal at all. Scones and jam (and wine!) were very tasty and well received, thank you. Trudi and Sam were very warm and welcoming in a very unobtrusive way. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit, and would be very happy to stay again when next in that area.
