Moray is in the north east of Scotland, with a coastline on the Moray Firth. Known as “the land of natural contrasts”, Moray features the Cairngorm Mountains, rugged coastline and bustling town centres. The region spreads from the coastline on the north down to the National Park with the River Spey flowing through it – starting at the mountains and joining the sea at Spey Bay. Moray is whisky country; with over half of the country’s malt distilleries found in Speyside. When you’re not enjoying a tipple, you can indulge in mountain biking, watersports and walking/running through the lush scenery or take the time to explore some of the area’s historical sites.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Colin - Verified booking

We have stayed at Cullen on a number of occasions, but this was our first visit to Sea Breeze Cottage.

The description and previous visitor comments provided an accurate summary of the accommodation. It was lovely and homely inside, with a warm cosy living room and ample space for four people to stay. Just my wife and I stayed for the week, so we didn’t need the two rooms upstairs. The kitchen had all the essential facilities that you will need for your holiday. It had been snowing during our stay, but I can imagine the outside table and chairs would be very useful during the summer months. The cottage placement is quite convenient, as our previous stays have been down at the beach level, which made it a tiresome walk each time we wanted to go to the shops. Sea Breeze is a short walk to the shops and quick access to the harbour. Cullen itself is a very quiet village, with only a handful of shops open for half of the week. Having said that, there are many places to visit either walking distance or a short drive. Check out the pet cemetery, the beach and extend your walk further up to Portknockie. The view over the sea is outstanding. Drive out to Elgin or Inverness. We had plans to climb Hill of Maud, but we will save it for a warmer season. Cullen village has the essential shops including a Co-op, post office, fish & chip shop, and a Chinese takeaway close by. A large Tesco supermarket is not too far away near Buckie. The owners had taken the time to provide a holiday home that will be enjoyed by all those who visit. Thank you to Alex & Alison for providing milk, tea and coffee, that was most appreciated after an 8 hour drive. Look out for the reclining sofa chair!! Hope to visit again in the summer. If you want peace and tranquility, the cottage and the village are ideal for you.

This is a lovely place, really modern and nicely decorated.

Everything was really clean and tidy and whilst it was compact it was light and airy due to the patio doors letting in loads of light. Everything you could want for a weeks stay was provided, along with milk. tea. coffee and a lovely packet of local shortbread. The owners were not there when we arrived and I eventually got instructions to use the key out of the "lockbox", the owners it transpired were away themselves and arrived home a few days later, they made us aware of their presence but left us alone and were not intrusive whatsoever. I had read a review that said someone didn't like being "on show" and I can see why that would be as this property is at the entrance to a caravan park and there were lots of people walking past due to taking their dogs a walk from the site and there are two big patio doors on the front of the property, however, we did get over this by parking our (large) car across the front of the property which meant that we still got the light but not the people staring, I consider this was an easy option so not something that would put us off staying here again. If I had one problem it was that the beds were rather flimsy, ok for someone who is slight and under average weight but unfortunately we are not and we were concerned enough about this that we "made alternative" arrangements for sleeping in the property. That said, I would not hesitate to return to the property in the future.

Sea Breeze cottage is in a very good position in Cullen, with easy access to the main street and to the harbour, beach and many excellent walks in the area.

Cullen is in a great central position on the Moray Forth coast, giving easy driving access to the marvellous scenic coast, towns and villages. The Spey whisky distillery route is an easily accessible for a day out (with a nominated driver!). The cottage itself was clean and tidy with all the home from home facilities. The Rangemaster cooker is excellent! The heating system was also very quick and effective. A good shower is provided. However it is a dark cottage, particularly in the living / dining area. The Windows are small with very little sun getting into the house. We were lucky enough to have good weather and were out and about every day, using the cottage as a base. We didn't use the upstairs bedrooms but I would say they are only suitable for children. Saying that, the cottage is well priced compared with others in the area that have a sea view, you could easily pay 50% more for this. The local businesses were very well prepared for Covid recommendations, although the footfall is down significantly in the smaller shops and pubs with no outdoor areas. We didn't eat or coffee out anything like the number of times we normally would on holiday but it's worth giving a shout out to the excellent fish and chips in Cullen, the very good beer garden at the Seafield hotel, the excellent seafood at the auld kirk restaurant in Fordyce and the great ice cream at Portsoy.

Stayed here for a short break which was lovely and relaxing.

Good location just outside Aberlour, which is walkable distance from the cottage. Description and photos needs updating the sofa has been changed from what is in the photos to two 2-seater sofas that were comfortable initially but towards the end of our 4 night stay were hurting my back. The beds were comfortable and we had a good nights sleep every night. Plenty of facilities in the cottage, although the description said games and all we could find was a pack of cards. Plenty of books and literature though plus the television to keep you entertained. Upon arrival the outside lights weren't working which made it very dark and difficult to find the key (also seemed to set off loads of dogs barking when I was looking for it). FIrst morning the shower drain was blcoekd and water flooded the wet room (thankfully it was a wet room) managed to clear as much as possible and then informed owners who cleared it and it was fine after that. Although property is right next to the owners we didn't seem them at all (except to mention the shower). Lovely peaceful location and we did enjoy our stay despite a few niggles. I would stay here again but oinly for a short break, by the fourth night I was ready to come home.

The location was ideal and the size of the cottage was ideal but, it was dirty.

The hob top was smeared with grease and the cooker had never been cleaned. The hard floor had not been washed and the large rug covering most of the seating area was absolutely filthy, never been hoovered and stained. Dishes in the cupboard were dirty with baked on food and we had very limited amount of pans .Food from previous occupants was left in the cupboards The non stick frying pan had lost most of its coating and was not fit to use. When we arrived there was no heating on and no instructions as to how to put the radiators on we had to call someone round and even then there were no clear instructions .The shower was very poor. The bread bin had so much dust on top you could have written your name in it. The bedding was clean and we were left a pint of milk ! As someone who cleans holiday lets this was way below par, and in the light of the current pandemic this was totally unacceptable. I think we should be given some of our money back. Your advertising states that extra measures are being taken due to Covid but, this was not the case. The holiday let I clean is deep cleaned between each occupancy and then all touch points treated with antiviral spray , this place was filthy. Marie Louise Rushton
