What our customers say about their holidays

    • Manasa - Verified booking

Smardale hall was a unique and wonderful place for a holiday with the family.

Our children called it the 'castle house' and the living room and the fireplace captivated them and us a lot. The beds were super comfortable and despite being old and huge, it felt pretty warm - particularly when we had the fire going. The kitchen was very well equipped and see managed to have dinner there most nights and even Diwali and a birthday celebration. We only met Steven the owner - once as he led us up to the place with his car at we got there in the night and couldn't see there we were going and again as we left. He was lovely and very hospitable. We loved waking up to sheep being rounded up in the pen and beautiful sunrises and sunsets through the many large windows. There is a local walk that is along the old train line that is really beautiful and friendly for all ages. If there are any cons, it would be that you need a car to get here and it's a B road at the end so be prepared for awkward backing up in case you encounter oncoming traffic. Good news is Sainsburys delivers groceries so you don't need to pack everything to go here. The bathrooms are in the turrets and are quite cold so pack some robes to keep you cozy as you get in and out of the shower. Finally, we tried the hot tub on one night but it was warm. We should have asked Steven to help get it hotter but we didn't. Mainly as our mobile phones didn't work there. However, the internet is super fast so you can keep in touch with the world if you want to and plan nearby adventures. Thank you for having us and hope to return in the future.

We had the best time staying at Colt Park over the Christmas period.

We packed a bag of things we might need for the Christmas dinner but didn’t need to bring a thing! The owners have thought of everything. The cottage was beautiful, clean and the owners had even decorated it for Christmas which was lovely. The hot tub was probably the best we have ever used, with great jets and perfect for relaxing after a day walking and exploring. Parking is great, large area off road to the side of property and secure. The garden was secure for the dog and we found a lovely walk from the cottage to the beachfront. I would say the location is perfect for quiet relaxing time away, Ulverston and the lakes are within reach by car however there is limited things to do in walking distance due to there being no pavements. This didn’t affect us as we just hopped in the car to places but if you prefer to walk to places I wouldn’t say this is the place for you. The owners had wonderful communication texting us before our arrival and during our arrival to make sure we was comfortable or if there was anything we needed. They left a lovely welcome hamper and some balls and blankets for the dog which was so kind. This is truly a wonderful cottage and place to stay. We will definitely be returning. Thanks so much x

The cottage itself was clean, comfortable and cosy, the problem was the hot tub.

We only booked this cottage because of the inclusion of a hot tub. My partner works in care and she was looking forward to spending plenty of time in the hot tub with the jets on to relieve the pain in her back and legs. We attempted to use the hot tub on the Sunday afternoon, the water was hot, only one or two of the of the jets were working, very disappointing, pretty much useless, there was one filter fitted the other was discarded on the grass besides the hot tub, there were a few valves not fitted and we found them in the cabin adjacent, the control panel was worn and some of the the buttons un-responsive. All in all the hot tub was in need of a very good clean and a lot of maintenance and repair, to be honest I think it would be more cost effective to replace. The cabin by the hot tub was also in need of a lot of maintenance and repair. I think you should remove the hot tub from your description of the accommodation until it is in a good state of operation as this is tantamount to false advertising, its not right to say there is a hot tub if it is not working.

We have just spent the weekend in Colt cottage family of 2 adults and 3 children plus our 5month old puppy.

We absolutely loved it. The cottage is situated along a coastal road with great views of the sea. We walked in to a warm and inviting home, with a lovely welcome package. Everything has been thought of, the kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed, the bathroom is lovely and modern, and the bedrooms were bright and airy. It is a great location to access the lakes it was just a 50min drive to Windermere, the local town of Ulverston is really nice with a great play area for the kids and we took a very windy walk upto the monument. Our puppy loved the enclosed garden and he enjoyed doing laps around the outside of the house, care has been taken to not forget our four legged friend to as there were a few toys for him aswell as a lead, bowls and treats. The communication from Helen was fantastic, and we will definitely be looking at trying the cottage in the summer so we can enjoy the garden and the surrounding area.

We stayed at Colt Park Cottage near Ulverston for the October 2023 half term.

The cottage is easy to find with off the road parking adjacent to the property. On arrival, the cottage was warm and welcoming with a lovely gift hamper for ourselves. The property has everything you need for a home from home. It has a well equipped kitchen and some lovely extras like the coffee maker. Equipment is of a good spec and Helen and Mark have really thought carefully about what their guests may need and provided it. The cottage has a walled garden and a fantastic view of Morecambe Bay. We watched both a sunrise and the sunset with equally stunning views. It is within easy driving distance of the lakes and was a wonderful base for our trip away. I can imagine it to be a great getaway at Christmas time. I would highly recommend this cottage to friends and family. Floki recommends the ice-cream from the local ‘Roy’s ice cream’ van by the bay!
