What our customers say about their holidays

    • Vicky - Verified booking

      This cottage is absolutely beautiful!

My husband and I stayed with our two daughters and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay. The decor is stunning and everything was so fresh and clean. It had everything we needed and more. Our very favourite thing was the stepped garden terrace which catches the sun all day and night and has lovely views. We cooked a big paella one night and ate it outside while playing board games with the girls. The facilities were great, WiFi, smart TV and washer machine etc all in perfect working order. There was also lots of storage for cases etc. The Bathroom was spotless and the shower was also huge and fancy. There was also parking available onsite. The town of Chinley was picturesque, peaceful with stunning views. There are lovely coffee shops and pubs 5 min walk away and lots of walking trails. We ate out many times and the food was great everywhere we went. The owners were absolutely amazing, very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you! I highly recommend this cottage if you want a nice relaxing break away in a beautiful cottage.

The property is in an amazing position and easy to get to many places in The Peak District. There is a lovely cafe in the village. you need to watch as the pub in the village not always open every day. Some further equipment is required. There was only one large frying and it would be useful to have a small one as well. There was only the large grill pan and one baking tray. It would have been useful to have a further meat tray and another baking tray. Especially as the property is for 8 people. There is only a dust pan and brush. It would have been useful to have a sweeping brush and/or a small vacuum that did carpet and hard floors. A couple of the rugs needed a vacuum. Also, the twin bedroom next to the double bedroom was dusty around the windows - a few cobwebs.

It’s a lovely property which was let down by some issues.

Plus it’s not really practical for bigger families. Issues: heating wasn’t turned on when we arrived. There was no hot water for showers in the evening or the following morning. When we asked for the heating to be turned up this was then fixed for the rest of the stay. Maintenance had missed replacing a smoke alarm battery and this went off all night on our last night. Some of the pans and utensils were very tired. We left some out for replacement. Practicality- there is only one (difficult) parking space. We were told to park in the nearby pay and display public car park, but this doesn’t allow overnight parking! The walk to the nearest pub (which is more than the 0.1 miles stated) is down a dangerous busy road with no pavement in places.

The property is in a good location for walking and there is a friendly pub a short distance away.

However, although the pub is close enough to walk to, it is potentially dangerous to do this in the dark due to lack of pavements and traffic. Parking at the Barn is very difficult. The driveway is too small to manouvere a car when other vehicles are parked - which was very often during our stay. It is also steeply sloping which adds to the problem. The property is generaly well appointed although the kitchen and fittings/appliances are quite old/tired. There is a steep stone staircase which would be difficult/dangerous for anyone with mobility problems or small children. We had problems with the heating system during our stay. Only some of the radiators were functioning. These were reported to the owner but were not rectified during our stay.

We enjoyed a great stay at Churn Barn at the end of August 2024 to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary with our family. The accommodation slept 8 comfortably and is in a fantastic location for walking. We ate at the Old Hall Inn nearby and it was excellent. We also had a great BBQ and cooked pizzas on our own portable oven in the garden. We enjoyed having the games room and plenty of room to spread out too. Owner Stacey was very friendly and helpful. When I mentioned that we planned to have a family BBQ she generously provided a new one so we didn't have to bring our own. We would certainly recommend Churn Barn for a family get-together like ours.
