What our customers say about their holidays

    • Helen - Verified booking

We experienced a flood in one of the bedrooms, with water pouring through the ceiling in the early hours, the occupants including a baby had to move rooms.

A bottle of wine had been offered at the beginning of our stay for "a damp patch that had been repaired but not yet decorated". As we accepted the wine John Bray will not accept any responsibility stating that "as we were told of repair work and accepted the goodwill gesture the owners will not compensate" and have advised us to take the owners to court. We would not of accepted the wine if we had known it was more than a damp patch which had not been repaired, resulting in a serious flood. I feel strongly that with the amount of revenue generated, the property should be maintained to a habitable level at the very least. Surely there must be trust on both sides and feel disappointed and let down. We have stayed at Westray on numerous occasions and are very fond of it. but are always surprised at the lack of maintenance and customer welcome offered. Eg no milk, teabags or even salt offered. More seriously, the grill, coffee machine and bedside light faulty, smell of mould in main bedroom, stuck window in top bedroom. These were not reported as we discovered them over the course of the week and did not want to disrupt our holiday. Our only complaint has been the flood and I feel strongly that as the property was not in a habitable state we should be entitled to a partial refund. I hope that the owners are fully aware of these issues.

The property itself is gorgeous, with all amenities required - Can't fault that.

Great location - apart from the main road is quite busy and the building works next door aren't ideal. Few negative comments - The cleanliness of the property was very below par and let it down - it was very very dusty and dirty around the edges... Minor things you would expect for price tag - washing up supplies any provided a jay cloth, washing liquid and 10 dishwasher tablets - sponges or washing up brushes and antibac spray would be of use. There were no black bin bags even though it asks you to put rubbish out in them, and only 2 part used toilet rolls for the whole house. Bunk bed room - When booking we were told that we could use all the beds in the bunk bed room - this was important to us and why we booked this property as we needed to use all the beds for the kids - but on arrival we were only provided bedding for the bottom bunks and when we called the office to rectify we were told we were not allowed to use the top bunks at all. Mixed info. Building works - Appreciated the refund but when agreeing to it we were told the building works would be inside only - they were working on the roof with hammers from 8am-4pm. The property was a shell and quite clearly external works were in progress not internal. Otherwise we loved it and what it offered!

    • The A Family - Verified booking

We, being four adults and four children under 6 stayed at Treveth Lowen in August 2021 and had a fantastic time. The time was spent surfing at nearby (5 minutes drive) Polzeath, water skiing at Rock and exploring the locality with several trips to Padstow and the "other side" of the estuary. The property is very well laid out with a large kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom on the ground floor. On the first floor there are two further double bedrooms (one of which is en-suite) and a large living room with stunning views over Polzeath and the sea beyond. There is a large garden, perfect for the children to play whilst preparing for the day ahead or winding down after a long day.The property is ideally located being close to Polzeath but out of its hustle and bustle, equally it has excellent access to main roads, ensuring the county's famed beaches, towns and villages are easily reached. We had a wonderful time at Treveth Lowen and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a holiday in Cornwall and is seeking a tidy and comfortable house in a stunning and ideal location.

      Beautiful property well equipped .

Lovely decor and furnishings. Could do with stair gates when young children are there especially at the top . The information folder could do with being looked out think people have moved stuff around hard to found house information it’s after everything else needs to be at the front not places to visit etc . Not happy with John Bray’s customer service though. Sent email about work being done behind property no one came back to me about this at all . For your information builders arrive about 7.30 finish about 4 no noise until about 8.30 . I also rang about high chair cot etc no one came back to me I had to ring you again to be told we needed to hire one think this should be in the description of the property. Also had issue with instant hot tap which after a couple of phone calls eventually the engineer came out saying he would order the cartridge but we never saw anyone again so when leaving property the tap still didn’t work !! So John bray you need to look into your customer service as this has put me off booking again with you .

This was the second time we have stayed at Westray House and it is absolutely fabulous.

The location is fantastic and general facilities in the house are excellent. There is a very handy wet room and outdoor shower which is brilliant for showering off after a swim in the sea and making sure any four legged friends are free from sand before they get into the house. The house has a lovely homely feel about it, with a brilliant fire. The hot tub is an added bonus! The beds are very comfy which is very important if you want any a relaxing week. Finally, we had some additional questions prior to booking regarding the dogs and the owners were extremely accommodating and just as we arrived we had a message to say some new non-stick pans were arriving (no doubt in response to a previous review so a very quick resolution to that issue) and we were welcome to open the delivery. We loved our stay as much this time as we did 3 years ago and are planning on booking again for next year.
