This is so hard but I hope I can middle through and it makes sense!
! First impressions were amazing. The farm is quaint, and very picturesque. The Barn is stunning. The original features and quirky layout left us oohing and aahing, grinning with every new discovery. A quick explore of the farm and we found some stunning areas. The host Jackie was lovely and told us we could go anywhere, just to be careful around the farm machinery (especially the kids). She told us if we stepped over the little electric fence in the lower field we could walk under the railway bridge and there was a beautiful circular walk around the wooded wetland, pond and river. The upper field had lovely sheep and led up to stunning views of the area. Around the barn itself were a couple of little areas with a picnic bench and a little mown area and bench. The kids lost their shuttlecock in the very thick bushes within an hour of playing. Out the back door of the barn a collie dog was enclosed in an old outbuilding. She barked wherever we went past as she didn't like our dog being in her territory. If you take a dog you will need to keep it on a lead at all times due to the chickens, cats and sheep on site, plus there is no secure area so if they don't have perfect recall you'll lose them (and with some of the contents of the outbuildings it's definitely not reccomended to let them roam). The old buildings were trypical farm buildings, full of scrap and all sorts of things horded for when they will be useful. The chickens free ranged. I think they were moulting so not looking their best. Their house was enclosed with some fencing and I assume they were shut in at night. We never heard the rooster in the morning, only later in the day. Inside the barn itself the furniture had seen better days. I liked the mismatched, antique furniture but it was very rickety, some of the handles had broken and it didn't feel all that stable. The bed was comfortable. Being an old barn the ceilings and beams in places were very low and my partner cracked his head on the bathroom door one evening. The barn has small low windows. It is very dark inside and you need the lights on most of the time. Unfortunately some of the lights were broken, bulbs gone, etc. The extension lead in the ground floor double bedroom was very temperamental so the lamp would go off or flicker. On the other hand there is a glass roof between the lower bedroom and bathroom where light floods in. Unfortunately the lower bedroom has a quirky little window above the door with no curtain so light came in at the crack of dawn. It wasn't the cleanest place, but all the important areas were clean. A few cobwebs never hurt anyone and just added to the charm. The toilets flushes were very dodgy. I don't know if it's because it is on a septic tank (big notices warn not to flush anything but toilet paper, not that you should in any toilet really). The rolltop bath is lovely but it would have been more helpful to have another shower as 9 people trying to shower after a day at the beach took forever. The towels provided were tiny, just one each, and only a couple of hand towels and tea towels for the week meant we had to use the washing machine a lot. The kitchen is ok. Not really equipped to cater for a family of 9 but we managed. The ovens are small so you always have to use lots of trays and use bothe the fan and convertional over meaning things cook in different times. You may want to bring some knives as the ones there are blunt and small. A big issues for our family (17, 15, 14, 14, 11, 10 and 7) was the WiFi. It was just a TPLink boosted from the main house. It couldn't cope with all our devices, only just managed to let us use Google maps on our phones to plan trips out. I thought the kids might spontaneously combust but luckily we had the switch and they could play some games offline! The reason I say this is so hard is because, despite the problems we ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! I would book again in a heartbeat. The area is stunning. I already knew I loved it but I found even more to love this week. Being less than perfect meant I was able to relax a little more with the kids rather than stressing about keeping it spotless. It wouldn't take much for this place to be utterly outstanding, but I think that would push it out of our price range! So my advice is, book it, but go prepared. Take your own towels. Take some oven dishes and knives. Take tea towels and hand towels. Take washing machine tabs. Take some board games, colouring stuff etc for the kids. Download stuff to watch, listen to, play etc so you don't need the WiFi. Enjoy being disconnected for a while!

Just got back from Castle House, we had an enjoyable week but want to mention a few things.
Friday and Saturday night were very noisy due to the pub/bar opposite. There was also local events on which made it busy and with that comes a load of noise. Great location for shopping and Taunton has a great selection of shops and big supermarkets just a five minute walk away. My husband and I slept in the room at the top of the accommodation that has the four poster bed, sadly I was woken several times every night to a vibrating noise which I think must have been a boiler or something above us. The accommodation was lovely and quirky with its uneven floors and wonky doors and well equipped, a slight lack of cuttlery but we made it work. The shower needs maintenance as it smelt as does the dishwasher, we also found some dirty pieces of crockery too. Parking, when leaving the car park you need to get an exit pass from the hotel, this wasnât made clear until we stayed at Castle House, youâll have to go into hotel reception every time you want to exit the car park which can become tedious but the hotel staff are very helpful and friendly. One final thing, quite a few groups of teenagers hanging around outside at night and within the grounds that the kitchen backs out onto, we had stones thrown at the windows one night. I have given an honest review here, we did enjoy our stay even though I have highlighted a few things, would I return?.. probably not. Last thing⦠visit the Museum of Somerset, a really interesting museum with lots to see and itâs right on the doorstep, staff are also really friendly and knowledgeable about the local area.

Unusual and very quirky .
Whilst being in the centre of things we had a peaceful stay and enjoyed ourselves. I do think Sykes ought to stress that the property is not suitable for people who cannot manage the sloping stairs. Had a slight problem locating the key safe as not at the door but tucked away down the path in another part of the building, this would have been helpful to know in the email with the key safe code. Luckily I was helped out by a manager of the Castle hotel next door. It may be a good idea to have some signs on doors eg bathroom lounge etc.as we kept getting lost in there. We found the sitting room to be quite chilly and the sofas reflected this. Beautiful room though. Beds were very comfortable and great bedlinen. Such a shame there is no wardrobe in the twin room, they had to use the wardrobe in our four poster room All in all a gorgeous place to stay, stair carpet and cushions would make for a perfect stay We were originally a party of 6 but two members decided against joining us re Covid 19 we booked this lovely property because of the 3 bathrooms for each 3 couples. This in fact differed to another Sykes site, which would have been a problem had the other couple stayed as we all thought there was going to be 3 bathrooms for the 3 couples.

In a lovely location and the family who own the barn were so welcoming and really helpful.
The Barn itself is full of character, beautiful real fire place and has such lovely potential. However the building felt a little run and could do with some work. Cracked paint in bathrooms and a towel rail thatâs hanging on by a thread. Also it didnât feel like the cleanest. Cobwebs and dust every where. The towels provided smelt musty and damp and we had to wash them a few times to get them smelling fresh. The cushions on the sofas and bed linen also just didnât feel very fresh or clean. Also itâs sold as saying it has WiFi and out of 6 of us none of us could receive WiFi in the barn. There is WiFi in the main house and a booster near by apparently. Not a huge deal but I donât think it should say it provides it when it doesnât. Not suitable for young children as lots of steep stairs also the sound from the lounge area travels all round the barn so not suitable for families who need to put young children to bed and want to stay up late. Lots of animals roaming around the farm which was lovely and the stream running by the side of it was really picturesque. In a great location Intetesting place with character and the family who own it were lovely but definitely needs a little TLC.

We had a lovely 3 night stay at Field View.
We wanted to be as remote as possible to avoid any NYE fireworks and this was the perfect location. Nicola and Mike have thought of everything, this is a luxurious home from home place to be. The kitchen is well equipped making self catering easy, there is a great strong shower, and super comfy bed. The garden was completely secure for our dog so we had no concerns there. Although we were there in December at no point were we cold, the property has lovely solid floors so we were pleased we had packed our slippers (we always do) but the cottage stayed warm throughout as there are lots of radiators and heated towel rails. Bedding was spotlessly clean and there was an abundance of towels. Nicola and Mike had also kindly popped in some welcome treats which were very much appreciated, especially the freshly laid eggs. Although remote and rural the Greyhound Pub is only a short drive away, and Taunton was only about a 15 min drive away. The views were amazing and we were only disappointed that we werenât there longer in warmer weather to have a lazy breakfast in the garden. We would definitely return and definitely recommend.
