What our customers say about their holidays

    • Sarah Jane - Verified booking

Lovely holiday and overall cottage was good choice for break with grandparents, parents and 2 boys.

Although there were some issues which negatively impacted our enjoyment of the week. Positives Welcome pack on arrival meant didn't have to immediately locate local shops to make a drink. Well stocked kitchen with a whole cupboard free for storing our food really appreciated. Lots of resources provided - towels, loo rolls, dishwasher pods, laundry pods, basic cleaning supplies. Lots of living space offering areas for everyone. Reliable WiFi. Lovely garden and views. Easy parking for 3 cars. Comfortable garden furniture with BBQ. Covered pergola meant could still enjoy the outside space whilst the Great British liquid sunshine poured. Excellent location for exploring local area. Negatives Whilst the cottage appeared clean and tidy, the level of cleaning left much to be desired. We found cobwebs and thick dust in all areas of the cottage, a grubby bath and the fire place full of ash. The door to the downstairs bedroom only had door handle on one side, meaning that someone else had to shut the door behind you to give you any privacy especially important as the ensuite was open to the room. Downstairs loo constantly running water. Lack of bath mat and deep bath made using the upstairs shower dangerous. The lack of easy to understand guidance on using cooker/washing machine/ dish washer/showers caused great frustration. 2 members of our family have asthma/allergy to dust mites so the provision of feather filled pillows on the beds and sofa in the dinning space caused significant issues and increased medication usage. Whilst Somerset collected a great range of recyclable rubbish (much more than our local council) it is managed very differently to our so no clear information on when each bin would be collected was very frustrating. Multiple comments in the guest book commenting that black bin had not been emptied. Overall we had a great holiday and enjoyed the area, however the negatives around the cottage mean that we will not be returning Shepherds Cottage.

At the end of a very quiet Cul de sac as you enter Dulverton . Lovely plot and beautiful garden, all open though so bear this in mind if taking dogs . A very dated property that’s in desperate need of some modernisation. Nice fully equipped kitchen and bathroom. Good central heating system . We had to leave early as Beds were so uncomfortable, came away with a very bad back . About a 15 to 20 minute walk into Town either down the road with no pavements or through the housing estate. Dulverton is in a valley surrounded by very steep hills . A very quiet little town with not much going on . A couple of pubs and a few coffee shops . Was very disappointed with the dog walking. Nowhere to let them off . No decent footpaths other than through houses . No river walk . The woods were up a very steep hill . Probably ok for people hiking through to other places . Had to go in the car everywhere. Would not return.

Our 3rd stay at this lovely cottage.

Just a few negatives about this stay: The towel rail in upstairs bathroom was broken and just one bracket left sticking out of the wall, which could have caused an injury. We had to find bedding to make up a bed in ground floor bedroom which wasn’t ideal. The shower in ground floor shower room could do with the tile grout thoroughly cleaning. Not a single toilet roll to be found in any of the bathrooms, we always bring our own, but it would have been a nice touch. The driveway is dangerous to pull out of, the hedge needs to be cut back to give a safer exit. Overall a lovely stay, but feel standards had slipped since our previous visits.

We absolutely loved our stay at Shepherds Cottage.

The cottage itself is beautiful and so cosy. Our visit was during the colder season, so we did not make use of the garden but we can imagine what a blissful holiday stay it would be all year round and look forward to booking again in the summer too. We didn’t want to leave! The kitchen is very well equipped, the bedrooms very nicely made up, the dining and snug area a perfect place to lounge around. We visited the Bridge pub for dinner in the evening and the food was lovely. We went with our 2 dogs and there are ample scenic walks to take along the river. A 10/10 stay and cannot wait to come back!
