What our customers say about their holidays

    • Emma - Verified booking

Exceptionally stunning cottage located in a beautiful village.

Bigger than we expected and the views were beautiful. The outside area was perfect for our 4 year old and secure for our small dog so we were comfortable letting him roam the garden area. Kitchen was really well stocked with equipment and white goods - even had a separate small drinks fridge. The bathrooms were beautifully spacious and bright. Plenty of parking too and we didn't feel overlooked or crowded by the surrounding farm or cottages. We were able to see the cows every morning and evening which was brilliant - especially for our son. This has been the cleanest holiday cottage we have ever rented as well, being dog friendly we were even more impressed. Helen was incredibly helpful and friendly throughout our stay - she even provided us with candles and torches during an unexpected power cut and kept us up to date with estimated times and that the entire village was affected. We were left to our own devices but could knock the door for any issues we had and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend taking a torch if your planning a late evening jaunt to the pub as the village has no streetlights but it definitely added to the ambience on the walk home - We used phone torches and were absolutely fine. The local pub The Victoria Inn is a must visit as the food is delicious, a quint essential country pub in its decoration with small dining huts outside (a few even have chandeliers) and play area is great for kids. The staff are friendly and dogs are welcomed too. They were able to cater to various allergies which was really appreciated. The cottage is surrounded by 100s of walks and easy access to Wells (where Hot Fuzz was filmed), Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge and Street. Thank you Helen, we had an incredible week and would return again in a heartbeat.

Booked for a family get together.

Although not a disabled cottage, we booked for the downstairs bedroom and bathroom for ourselves, only to find there were a small staircase up to the downstairs facilities. Since I booked the cottage last year my brother became disabled and Helen was very helpful and supplied a single bed in the lounge, problem was the downstairs toilet was down 2 long unmarked steps past the kitchen with no handrail, so was forced with difficulty upstairs at night, this also meant my brother could not access the kitchen. I think these details should be made obvious, as with saying there was a downstairs bedroom and bathroom suggests good for anyone with limited mobility, defiantly a handrail down to kitchen and toilet needed. Also some minor things lacking such as bin liners and dishwasher tablets ( there were only 2!) No way to mop the shower after use, without having to request a mop, and there was no way to fit the Stairgate that was identified in the cottage details, which would have been useful as the first bedroom was right next to the top of stairs. Helen was very helpful in trying to accommodate our requests, the cottage was nice and clean but Sykes should be more accurate with the details, it's the details that they leave out that are sometimes very important. Only suitable for the able bodied, having downstairs facilities implies otherwise. June Wale from Devon, london and Birmingham

Arrival at property was promising owner had left a cake , milk tea and coffee.

Unfortunately that was the only positive all the rest been negative ,the furniture & fittings were all dated & well worn the bedding including the duvet was very poor on the double bed and they was no additional bedding so when nighttime was cool unable to improve comfort also the bedstead had some damage which the owner had tried to make safe with a piece of tape over problem which in this day and age of health and safety is not acceptable.the heating system as pointed out in list of info was unpredictable and warned not to adjust it and also info list stated fault with light on hob so had to remember which plate had been on to avoid injury, the toaster was antiquated and dirty so if you used it it set of alarm in kitchen on top of this the cleanliness was poor very dirty around skirting boards and toilet in bathroom. My wife and I are both pensioners and my daughter is single parent of my granddaughter so we were expecting a nice enjoyable holiday which ended up like been in a 1970 s documentary so in the end we left property a day early.this holiday is normally a little treat for the family and all other times when we have used your site the holidays have been excellent but this one will make me think twice before booking through you in the future

I have had a lovely time.

The property was spotlessly clean and had everything I needed. Great location and a wonderful town, very dog friendly and lots of beautiful walks. Wells is a very nice little town, friendly locals and great surroundings. Due to the current safe distance rules I did not get to meet Sue but she ensured I was left all the information I needed and tea, coffee and cake on arrival. Nice touch. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to switch off from the busy life. I know that for most people holiday means going abroad and sit by the pool with a drink, well that isn’t me. There are so many beautiful places in this country to see and explore that we often forget and we don’t feel we had a holiday until we get on a plane. The drive down to Wells took just under 3 hours and the scenery was breathtaking (non motorway). Let’s enjoy this country that has so much to offer and then sit in a paddling pool in your back garden with a drink so you can feel like you’ve had a holiday.

Our stay at Goldings in Wells was very enjoyable, Located in a very quiet cul-de-sac.

Near to the City Centre and within walking distance of shops, restaurants etc or even quicker in the car with plenty of parking nr to the City Centre at the local supermarket. The owner left us a nice chocolate cake, tea and coffee on the table and fresh milk in the fridge for our first brew. ( Thank you ). Goldings benefitted from a nice large garden, plenty of room for our dog to exercise himself. Very cosy lounge area with Wi Fi connections and smart TV. Plenty of hot water on tap for all guests to enjoy a bath. As explained by the owner in their welcome notes, the heating was a bit temperamental due to a faulty thermostat, in the hallway, we could not increase the room temperature, this left it a bit chilly in the evenings. Our only critic would be that the mattresses in the front bedroom do need replacing and are past their best. On the whole Goldings was very homely and great value for the money,
