What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mark - Verified booking

Ty Pren is located down a lovely winding country lane on a quiet farm.

The lodges are set within an idyllic location away from noise with amazing country, sea views. At night you can see the lighthouse lit up, with the beam glancing across the lodge, a truly amazing sight. The small cluster of lodges are suitably distanced from one another, which allows you to have the privacy you need. With Two cars, Four guests and a Four legged companion there was more than enough space for everyone. The Lodge was inviting from the moment we opened the door, a bright, spacious layout which surprised us. Upon entering the main lounge, we found a bottle of wine and a welsh cake which was most appreciated after a long journey. The owners also supplied tea, milk and sugar to get us started, with a well equipped kitchen and a washing machine and tumble dryer if needed. There are local shops just a short drive down the road which is suitably stocked or there is a Tesco supermarket about 30 minutes away. The area surrounding the lodges is a country, coastal walkers dream. A beautiful Ten minute walk over the fields brings you down to Porthgain Harbour, you will be pleasantly surprised by how friendly everyone around the harbour is. The Sloop Inn is a great place to eat and have a nice drink to rest awhile and enjoy the scenery. The Shed is a sea food restaurant which has a wide range of food to suit all tastes, you will not be disappointed. There is boutique shops with artworks and the seaside nik naks for those wanting to take home a souvenir, with a free public toilet and car parking with Two designated charging points for electric vehicles. The views, atmosphere, coastal walks, great food and drink will make you want to stay longer next time. Thanks for a great stay and we hope to rebook sometime in the future.

We have stayed at Ty Pren previously and we were not disappointed with our return visit.

There is a bumpy, potholed dirt track down from the farm to the lodges so a suitable vechile is required. I wouldn't arrive in a lowered vechile but you dont need a monster truck either. I drive a ford focus and we made it up and down there with no issues. Nothing has changed, apart from the weather. Whether sunny or rainy it's always a great time here away from it all. The views are still amazing and it is so peacefully quiet, its like being away from everything. You can walk down to Porthgain, cutting through the fields is quicker and going over the bridge with the water running underneath is so tranquil. The Sloop Inn is a great pub with amazing food, drinks and great staff, well worth a visit. The coastal walks are breathtaking, miles of views you will always remember. The blue lagoon is just a 5 minute drive away, just put Abereiddy Beach in the satnav/maps and it will take you there. There is parking on uneven, stoney ground so be aware of this before going. There is a charge of around £5 which is collected by someone before you park, i would advise to have the change to hand. They also provide public toilets which are free to use, no 40p required here. I would highly recommend a visit here. You can also walk from Porthgain to the Blue Lagoon, for those able to do so. Saint David's is also close by, amazing cathedral, shops, pubs, cafes all you could need for a great day out. To sum up, the lodge itself is worth the visit. The scenery and location is just an added bonus, I will most certainly be returning again.

Lovely quiet cottage, 10 mins walk to the Wales Coastal Path and 15 mins walk to Trefin. The small welcome pack of tea/coffee milk and Welsh cakes were very welcome after a long drive. Oh, and there was a bottle of red wine too, great touch. Underfloor heating kept the cottage warm and there's instant hot water. The bath is a God send after a day's walking. Really good equipment levels in the kitchen, more here than we have at home. The small log burner added an extra level of cosiness during our stay at the end of January. We brought our own kindling/logs as we had some surplus at home. But you may be able to arrange supplies from the cottage owners if you wish. A great addition is the use of a 7kWh electric car charger. I have a PHEV so it was great to use it for local driving to nearby towns and villages. Pay for what you use essentially. There is an outside tap to clean off muddy boots etc, and also the use of a washing machine in the shed outside. All in all, a great little base for your holiday in God's country

We have just spent a week in this lovely, well equipped traditional cottage in the friendly village of Trefin.

The welcome Welsh cakes & Bara Brith were delicious and a nice touch. We stayed at this cottage in Sept 2023 also and we loved our stay and the local area so much we booked again. The cottage has everything you need and was clean and comfortable throughout. The outside space has good seating and table which we enjoyed with the dry weather. There is also ample, good dining space inside. Kitchen is light and airy with plenty of equipment all in good working order. The shower is powerful and lovely after miles of walking the costal path. The stunning costal path is minutes away on foot. The Ship Inn, Trefin does good food and drink, and the staff are very friendly. We enjoyed good food also at The Sloop Inn & The Shed, Porthgain. Lots of useful info about the area in a well organised folder provided by the owner. Thank you. We will be back!! Elaine and Mark

I marked down the equipment as we didnt find a torch or candles and knowing from previous stays nearby, we have had times with electric out, last year we spent an evening at a very nearby cottage in darkness as electric off but thankfully they had lots of candles there. I also found the settee to be a sink hole that was hard to get out of so not very comfortable. It would also be a bonus to have a spare toilet roll as we ran out. The picnic bench in garden is broken, not attached underneath so didnt feel safe to use. other than that the cottage was wonderful and even when the boiler broke it was repaired within a few hours, great hosts and the best welcome package we have ever received, they went above and beyond, it was most appreciated, we would be more than happy to return.
