What our customers say about their holidays

    • Michelle - Verified booking

We returned yesterday from a wonderful stay at Courtyard Cottage.

Mark and Adrian were warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The cottage was wonderful - spotlessly clean with everything we could possibly need. The cottage is well-furnished, and we found everything to be of high quality. The beds are comfortable, the heating was easy to control and the house was warm and toasty in a chilly November. There's a lovely log burner with kindling, firelighters and wood provided to get you started, but the house was so cosy anyway we didn't use it. Lots of light switches mean you can turn the lights on & off from lots of different areas in the house which was great. There were plenty of coat hangers in the walk-in wardrobes, and a hairdryer (thank you! I forgot to bring mine!). Some of the sockets were for 3 round pins, but there were plenty of normal sockets. The wifi was strong & reliable and the en-suite shower was hot & easy to use. The TV isn't a smart TV so don't plan to watch Netflix (wasn't a problem for us). We were given milk, eggs, jam, bread & butter, and tea, coffee and sugar. The website said to take your own tea towels but these were provided along with oven gloves, dishwasher tablets, washing up cloths, sponges & liquid, clingfilm & tin foil (very handy, thank you!), and there were plenty of spare toilet rolls. The cottage is in a wonderful area only 25 minutes from Shrewsbury, Ironbridge and Bridgnorth, and just over an hour from Chester. Mark gave us some great recommendations for places to eat. We especially enjoyed SpiceLand curry house in Woodbridge. Directions to the house on the website were perfect - it was easy to find, and our sat nav took us directly there anyway. The house is in a small hamlet so it's very rural and you definitely need a car, but this was part of its charm - and it was only a very short drive to the nearest shop. post office and restaurant. Would we return? Definitely. And we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the house to others.

We came across Sykes by enquiring at Holiday Lettings.

Their involvement was limited to that of any portal. The property was something else again! SUPERB! It was infinitely more than we expected because the listing details failed to do it justice. The way that modern amenities had been built into such an old building was masterful. That the building has been recovered from being derelict by the present owners is a testament to their vision, imagination, sense of style etc etc etc!! Its position away in the country but within easy reach of Market Drayton, Newport and Telford is excellent as well as beautiful. So relaxing. With a big comfy bed - it is impossible not to enjoy. A walk around the gardens is well worthwhile as is a visit inside the tulip tree. Because our neice stayed in the B&B we were treated to a tour of the Hall itself which is another world again. The Owners were perfect hosts and extremely attentive - which we appreciated greatly. We would love to visit again. John & Alex Whittaker. After five years in New Zealand en route to a new life in beautiful Shropshire.

We are just home after a week staying at the beautiful Courtyard Cottage, and have to say that this was definitely the best cottage holiday we have ever had.

The cottage is beautifully furnished and full of character, with everything we needed to ensure a great stay. From the welcome pack of bread, home-made plum jam, eggs and milk, to the super comfy beds (first time I've stayed in any cottage when the bed was more comfortable than the one at home!), to the glorious courtyard with its riot of colours, it was perfect. Mark and Adrian were very welcoming and unobtrusive, and kindly gave us a tour of the Meeson Hall, which was amazing. The peace and tranquility of Courtyard Cottage made this a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday for us all, and the wi-fi is also very good, which kept my 14 year old happy! There is also a lot to do in the area, and we enjoyed trips to Ironbridge, historic Shrewsbury and our particular favourite trip was to Hawkstone Follies (which did leave us with rather sore feet, but was well worth it). A perfect cottage and perfect holiday, we would thoroughly recommend Courtyard Cottage to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing break!

Proximity to the games room to this cottage (The gap between the two buildings is 3ft) resulted in background noise until late at night. We wanted a rural retreat to have a quite weekend away, we did not get that. I have no objection to the large group next door renting and using this games room this issue was it is just too close and therefore inappropriate to rent to a different party. This might have been mentioned in the small print somewhere but having booked using the mobile app we were very surprised this was the situation. Having rented properties occasionally over the past 15 to 20 years this was very poor and we did not have a great time. We were going to stay through to Monday morning, instead left a day early on Sunday we'd all had enough. We
