The cottage was absolutely lovely apart from two things.
1 1/2 toilet rolls do not last a week! Can't there be some spares in the hall cupboard? I too find that duvets are far too hot for the summer months and therefore always take our own 4.5 tog one, as well as an extension lead as the sockets are never in the right place for hair dryers and mirrors. We were quite horrified, when we took off the quilt cover to find the duvet extremely marked and soiled. A complete clean or a new one would be appropriate and we were glad we did not have to use it! We had been told by Sykes that all bedding, towels, tea towels , oven gloves, cushions, books and leaflets would be removed so we brought all our own only to find that everything was present. We did hang onto the phone for two sets of one hour which, incidentally cost me £2.70 to try and get to tell the owner that we were bringing our own things but they refused to giver me any contact details. In fact, they refused to speak to me because they had messed our booking up with that of our daughters and had (and still have) got our name wrong and put both cottages in our daughter's name I had to get my daughter on the mobile on speaker so she could shout at them to speak to me! Whilst I was hanging on to the phone for al that length of time I looked on their site and if you clicked on "book this" it said sorry this was not available - this added to our stress as we thought they had gone bust! You still have my booking under the wrong name! I have not placed this report earlier as my daughter was in her cottage and I didn;t want anything else to go wrong. We all know the problems you have had with Covid but I think Sykes have handled it very badly and will think very carefully whether I book through them again. I certainly would book the cottage again but possibly not through Sykes.

Overall, this is a lovely cottage that is generally well-equipped and in an excellent location.
Staveley is a lovely village to stay in. The following comments are just things to be aware of / for the owners to consider to really improve the experience of staying at Stone Cottage. Firstly, and most importantly, please replace the mattress and pillows as these are very uncomfortable. I also don't think the bed is king-sized as per the listing. Secondly, little things, but please leave more than one toilet roll for a seven night stay. It doesn't cost much to provide enough toilet roll for the week, but it's very annoying for guests to have to go and buy their own. Also, please provide a towel and/or kitchen roll for the kitchen. Also, for people with a dog, regarding the garden, people should note (as the listing doesn't) that: 1) the neighbours have a right of access through the back garden so can just walk through the garden if they need to. They only did once in the week to put their bin out while we were there. 2) the gate to the garden is a metal gate with gaps between the bars so if you have a very small dog, they could probably fit between these bars. Someone had commented that they had this problem in the guestbook. I didn't mean this to be a complaining review as we had a lovely week, but I just think these are small changes that could really improve people's stay or things that people should be aware of before booking.

Charming and very well equipped cottage in small village of Staveley, just a few minutes drive from Windermere.
House is clean and comfortable with a decent sized living and dining area, excellent kitchen with good oven and everything you need for a week self catering. Nice conservatory/sun room at the back. There is a long lawned garden at the rear which our greyhound enjoyed running up and down. Bike storage available in the lockable garden shed although there isnât much space so you may struggle to fit more than one bike in there (particularly MTBs). Decent sized bedroom with large comfortable bed and plenty of storage/spare bedding. Amazing shower. DVD player advertised on Sykes but not present - not a problem for us but worth considering if the forecast isnât good! Location wise, Staveley is a great choice for exploring the area. Only ten minutes drive (or 25 min cycle) to Bowness and similar to Kendal. The village has a Spar for essentials and a few cafes, also a large Wheelbase bike shop which is very well stocked. The Hawkshead Brewery is well worth a visit, excellent beer and live music on Sundays. We really enjoyed our week in Staveley and would definitely stay at Stone Cottage again if we return.

Had a wonderful time at this lovely cottage.
Arrived just after Storm Arwen to a Village power cut so the toasty wood burner was a godsend! Really well equipped, great modern kitchen - the oven is a fancy Neff one with a retractable door - and great shower. Lovely long garden which is secure for dogs and so nice to have the bright and light conservatory as an extra space too. Staveley is a fantastic base - great for walks, has super local shops (Kimiâs Gelato, Hawkshead Brewery, More Artisan Bakery and Cafe, Mr Duffins roasting their own coffee, proper butchers, Eagle and Child pub with roaring open fire). Really lovely owners too - we were very impressed when they got in touch directly to check we were okay as the power cut was for three days. They were very helpful as were the shops in the Village - we were offered hot water at Kimiâs, the pubs let us charge phones -really friendly place.

The cottage is in a lovely position and close to town of Bowness.
The bedrooms and beds were very comfortable. However there were a few items missing which would have improved our stay, eg only 1 oven glove, no bath mat or slip mat in shower room, only 1 loo roll, shortage of cutlery for 4 people, kitchen cooker very old and kitchen layout difficult for 2 people, only 2 outside cushions for bench, no folding garden chairs, greenery & foliage outside kitchen overgrown & inhibiting views. The DVD didnât work, we phoned the owner who promised a new one the following day, which didnât arrive. The wiring and plug system for TV/sockets etc is very inadequate and outdated. The information file needs updating re TV and recycling info. Considering the cost of this cottage, which is not cheap, I feel we did not get value for money on the above points. Ros Beckett
