What our customers say about their holidays

    • Sammy - Verified booking

Immediately upon arrival, we exited our car and was greeted by a strong smell of sewerage, which we thought were the bins at the time as the lids were open and there was a lot of rubbish on the floor.

When talking to someone in the bar, one member of staff although busy was really trying to help us and reported the issue to the maintenance- who only had five minutes left of their shift and I am unaware they did anything about - blamed the fact it was a bank holiday. Another member of the staff at the bar claimed it was nothing to do with them and therefore wasn’t even going to attempt to help us and didn’t give us the time of day. This put up off sitting outside and using the hot tub. Additionally, the hot tub had sand floating around and clearly hadn’t been cleaned. Whilst ringing around different numbers- the bank holiday got the blame for our problems. Inside the cabin, the table was sticky and obviously hadn’t been cleaned. We couldn’t open the windows due to the smell. However the smell was apparent inside the lodge anyway. As you can imagine, this wasn’t a great start to the week and put us off being able to relax. The smell came and went throughout the week and sometimes came when using the kitchen tap. The toaster was very temperamental and there were kitchen doors which weren’t screwed on properly. The single beds were too small and very uncomfortable - stains in the linen made us feel a bit dirty. Although warned, it was quite an inconvenience having no water running through the shower or taps on Friday. We did have most things we needed and plenty of seating in the lounge with a fire like heater which was nice. Unfortunately, we will not be returning and wouldn’t recommend, but wanted to pass on the reasons why. Thank you, Sammy.

Beautiful, comfortable, spotless property in a superb location. The welcome hamper was fantastic. The dog welcome hamper was a great extra touch too! We’ve been to Northumberland many times on holiday, usually staying in the countryside, but we really enjoyed being in Alnwick itself for ease of access to everything. We can really recommend Turnbull’s in town for lunch foods and the one on the outskirts of town for meat and other dining goodies. We had very good fish and chips and gelato from Carlo’s too. We had trips to the seaside at Longhoughton, Beadnell and Warkworth. A walk we have never missed on any visit is from Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle – recommend parking in the “field parking” before the main carpark – more space and friendlier! We also enjoyed walking in the national park at Simonside. For people with a dog, there’s a nice park about 5mins away from the property, turn right out of the front door and right up past the police station – the park is near Swansfield Primary School – the park is called Swansfield park. The dog also enjoyed a run off the lead in the landscape below the castle near to the river. And of course we also paid several visit to Barter Books! Our son enjoyed having his own “suite” on the mezzanine! A great holiday – didn’t want to leave! – Many thanks.

We are repeat Coquet Cottages customers and we have always had a great holiday experience. This time we stayed at Swansdown in Amble. It is in the Coble Quay development which is very smart and has a dedicated parking space. Derek, the owner, kindly contacted us to advise that Swansdown would be available earlier than the 6pm arrival stated in the information sheet. The views from the balcony looking across the Marina to Warkworth Castle are superb. We had one rainy day, and I simply enjoyed looking out of the floor to ceiling windows, for quite some time. Swansdown permits one dog which was just what we needed. We also took advantage of the dog sitting service in order to visit a local restaurant that did not allow dogs. It was worth it as the food served at Sea and Soil is fab. Swansdown is very modern and high spec. The usual touches were very welcome; a nice bottle of wine, flowers, doggie treats as well as delicious scones and nice bread. Milk and butter are also provided. I understand there are beach chairs etc, in a storage area but we did not investigate these.

Thank you for a wonderful week staying in your excellent apartment. We keep saying we wish we were back there looking out on that fabulous view from the lounge window. The weather may not have been brilliant but it did not stop us from getting out and about. We did see the Christmas lights switch on in Warkworth (man on hands and knees under the tree putting the plug in!) as well as Santa and his Rotary helpers (I am a Rotarian, and am a few bob lighter now!). We also saw a wonderful TV programme about Warkworth on BBC TV that week and did some enjoyable exploring around the village as a result. We will probably be back next year, but in the meantime we send you our very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.  [‘Pubs, Ponds and Power – the Story of the Village’ featured Warkworth village and was aired by BBC in November, it’s available on the BBC iPlayer on catch-up nd will be repeated on BBC4 in January.]

We booked Phoenix as a last minute holiday and we couldn’t have been happier!

The whole park was lovely and quiet and the hot tub was perfect to relax in. We also brought our dog which was a massive bonus as there’s not many places where dogs are accepted! We will definitely be booking again and we can’t wait for our next stay ☺️ the only thing I would add for people who bring their dogs, (which I don’t think has anything to do with the property itself or the owners, just more of a heads up!) but the hot tub maintenance who comes to check the hot tub on a daily basis don’t come at a set time. So just make sure you keep your ears peeled for them as the guy startled our dog to which he started barking which startled the guy coming to do the hot tub! I think if a set time could be put in place for when they come would be fantastic so people can keep their dogs in for the few minutes they’re here! I know it’s easier said then done ☺️
