Hi We had a lovely time, but there were a lot of problems.

The owners were lovely right from the start, but persistent calls whilst we were on our break were a bit much. There was no welcome pack We get up at 5 am and the cottage was freezing cold,it was minus 2 most mornings, and were in late 60s with arthiritis and the cold makes it worse.the heating only came on around 7 am very low and only stayed on minimally. The heating and hot water are controlled remotely by owners so we had no control of those. The bathroom floor is lethal with the fluffy mat they supplied and I slid across the floor, this could also be because there is only 1 grabrail, the bath was slippery, with no grab rails inside bath to feel secure in shower. The oven was filthy, and the meat tray inside was rancid with caked on grease,it took 4 attempts in dishwasher to get it clean. The tea towels too were dirty, the bath towels stiff, but not a problem as we take our own I have a cleaner myself, and if she cleaned this badly she would be sacked. There was dust everywhere, and the blinds etc were full of dust and grime There was a sheet far too small on bed and the underblanket didn't stay secure due to this, hence sleepless nights. The bed very low and the mattress wasn't great as we kept rolling into middle. When we lifted mattress to try to secure sheet under the mattress we found a lot of used dirty tissues!!!. Very scary,as who knows what germs were left,as we're both clinically vulnerable. The "cleaner" was not up to job

I can only echo the review left by Jacqueline for Skipper.

Our holiday was absolutely ruined by the building work that is ongoing right next to Skipper. Constant loud noise all day from heavy construction plant and many skip fires that blew smoke all over the garden. In addition the workers arrived at 7am in the morning and parked behind the gates, slamming doors and waking us up. There are see through gates where they park, so our privacy was also compromised. We only read Jacqueline’s review during the holiday and had no warning from either the owners or Sykes that this was happening, although clearly it has been going on a while. I feel the owners are morally corrupt, actually making the cottage available during a period when they know there are obtrusive works going on. Despite complaining three times during the holiday, neither the noise nor the skip fires ceased. We also complained to Sykes, who were of no real help, citing the fact that the contract is with the vendor and not with them. There is no mediation service. The only recourse left open to me to gain some kind of recourse is to go to the small claims court, but my wife and I have decided to draw a line on it and not spend any more precious time on this matter. So the big guys win again. I just hope that others read this before booking or taking their holiday and hopefully it will save someone from the same horrible experience that we have had.

***BE AWARE THERE IS BUILDING WORK GOING ON ON SITE*** This was our second stay at Skipper.

We were there last autumn and thought we’d go back when the weather was better (who were we kidding?). Having had a wonderfully peaceful stay in beautiful surroundings we expected the same but were sadly disappointed. There is major building work around the hall itself but all of the heavy machinery and vehicles are kept just to the left of Skipper and the noise of them trundling back and forth was horrendous. It started at 7am and didn’t let up until 5pm. As if this wasn’t bad enough there were a couple of skip fires so we had to keep the doors and windows closed. Also one night a van turned up, parked directly facing the garden with its headlights blazing in on us. We had a glorious 48 hours between Friday night and Monday morning when work stopped and all of the animals began to emerge. We had taken almonds and walnuts for the squirrels and it didn’t take long before they were tapping on the patio doors to be fed, the rabbits and pheasants came out from hiding and we even spotted a few deer. We discovered that there are a couple of truly free range chickens which rocked up at the garden gate and in no time they were eating out of our hands. Sadly the diggers and dump trucks started up again at 7am Monday morning and we had no choice but to leave.

Myself and my partner had a lovely Christmas stay at Bridleway Cottage.

We cooked a full Christmas Dinner in the kitchen which had everything that we needed. Had all the home comforts, lovely comfy chairs and sofa with a decent television. Also had super fast broadband for Netflix etc which is all set up for every guests use. There is a log burner with some free logs with the option of buying more if needed. Was so nice to see the variety of birds coming to feed at the bird feeders, which get very close to the windows. Very entertaining and relaxing to watch them. We would recommend for anyone who needs a good rest in a peaceful location. The countryside around the cottage is beautiful. Helen the Owner was very helpful with any queries we had. She helped us with directions when we got a little lost in the dark trying to find the cottage, which was stressful at the time but she put us at ease. Helen is only at the end of the phone if you need to text or call for whatever reason otherwise you’re left alone to enjoy your stay. We would love to return and explore the area more, it is an ideal location for walking and there is a car park space specifically for Bridleway Cottage so you can park just outside.

The property was very clean, a major plus for me with a well equipped kitchen with everything we needed.

Good selection of pans, pyrex, oven trays and a slow cooker alongside the microwave, electric hob and oven. Minor niggles. A silicon pan trivet would have been useful and a washing machine would have been a bonus during our personal current lifestyle. A clear plastic 1/8" sheet or similar behind the bin may stop the unsightly marks on the wall behind and swapping the fridge/freezer door hinges over from right to left would be logical. No bath mat to step on when out of the shower. Duvet was very hot for summer. The traffic on the adjacent road stopped us walking directly from the house and the noise from the road during late evening early morning bothered me but I'm quite sensitive to road noise. The shower trap is constantly being syphoned from a source below leading to smells in the bathroom, we poured water into the trap short term but this is very fixable. Minor niggles aside I'd recommend and return.
