What our customers say about their holidays

    • Tracy - Verified booking

The cottage was a wonderful place to spend Christmas with the dogs.

Such a cosy, warm cottage but very modern. I was concerned about all the kitchen items I would need to pack to make a Christmas dinner, but Dale reassured me that they had everything available for foodies and they certainly did. The cottage is much bigger than it looks on the photos and it had lots of storage space. We were overwhelmed by the lovely welcome drinks and nibbles we recieved, also emergency tea, coffee and milk as we hadn't had time to stop at the shop. Asda is just a 6 minute drive away but I was sad to hear that there was no village shop. There was also no village pub although Dale directed us to 2 that were a walking distance away and served lovely food. Natland itself is a cute little village, imagine the Vicar of Dibley setting. There is a church at the heart of the village and we attended 3x over the festive period and enjoyed every service. The locals were lovely and recognised us from our walks with the dogs. The walks were great for the dogs and the views were lovely. It was a short drive to Windermere where you can get a boat to other areas such as Ambleside. The dogs would get quite muddy on their walks so Dale also gave us access to the outhouse area where there is a washing machine, you can hang wet clothes and also wipe down the dogs. The most amazing part for us was that as we have two small dogs, the garden wasn't secure for them, especially Daisy my Cavachon who is like Houdini. When I mentioned this to Dale, he spent Christmas Eve in the rain securing the fence with a mesh. This was way beyond what I would ever have expected and I was so grateful as the garden is now secure for small pooches who want to stay. Thank you and we would love to go back again.

We had a very relaxing time.

The flat was very clean, beautifully decorated with lovely paintings and was very comfortable with every amenity provided for. The bed was large and extremely luxurious, so much so that we struggled getting out of it in the morning. The towels smelt lovely, please let us know what you use to wash them. The welcome gift pack together with the wine and the fresh flowers, especially the single rose on the bed were extra nice touches. Although we couldn’t park directly outside the property, there were safe parking areas free at the side of the road near the race course. Cartmel is a quaint village which you can walk around easily with a good small supermarket and other shops / coffee shops to buy refreshments and souvenirs. There are 4 pubs, one being directly across the road from Tower House however we didn’t experience any noise from there. We thoroughly recommend the Unsworth Brewery where you can have cocktails and craft ale and has an outside drinking space with heaters. There is also a restaurant, Oscars. We appreciate the building is grade 2 listed and sometimes there can faults with it which are hard to rectify. The shower flow was powerful however the drainage was slower to drain away and therefore had to keep turning the shower off mid way to let it drain. The basin hot tap shuddered and made a loud noise as if it had an air lock. However these minor details did not detract from the brilliant stay that we had at 1 Tower House. We would thoroughly recommend it and would have no hesitation in returning. Thank you for making our holiday special.

This property is in a great location within easy walking distance of the racecourse and Priory and the town square with a vast selection of dog friendly pubs and restaurants, cafes and shops to suit every taste and budget.

The interior of the property is tastefully decorated. The good sized living room and bedroom have a cozy, warm feeling to them and provide a home from home. We appreciated the many extra touches provided to add to the comfort of our stay. Thanks for the lovely bottle of wine and basic provisions to get us started. The owner answered our questions honestly when booking so we were prepared to deal with the fact that there was no garden or parking and the tiny shower room, off the galley kitchen. Slippers are needed but the shower worked well and the wide windowsill provided ample space to put bags containing our bathroom stuff which was easily reachable from the shower. Small bathrooms can be easier to negotiate and that proved to be the case here, albeit one at a time. These things did not detract from our stay, either for ourselves or our two Labradors who loved their holiday with regular walks around the racecourse , albeit sometimes in the early hours of the morning, (an extra evening walk after dinner solved that difficulty) and a choice of lovely dog friendly beaches and stately homes with extensive grounds to visit within easy reach. Overall this apartment provided excellent value for money and the residents parking permit provided for use during our stay proved invaluable.

We stayed in the Granary apartment which is ground level.

The apartment is kitted out to a high spec, 3 smart TVs, comfy beds, dishwasher and a lovely rainfall shower. The property owner is just next door and was really friendly, she gave us food to feed the animals in the small holding. On arrival to the property we were overwhelmed by a strong damp smell which increased in both bedrooms. We tried to air the property out by opening all windows (windows are small and very high up). Opening windows did not help the smell and on closer inspection we noticed areas where paint has peeled off the walls in bedroom and has been painted over again - wallpaper is also starting to peel and there is black mould in the corners - therefore, I believe this property has a damp issue which needs sorting. The damp did cause us to have allergies (itchy skin etc) so we had to take anti histamines during our stay. The advertisement doesn't make it clear that there is no view from the property as the small windows are so high up - this felt a little claustrophobic when we spent time in the let. There is also alot of noise from the upstairs apartment - this didn't particularly bother us, however, if you are looking for a very relaxing retreat this would not be the holiday let for you.

Really disappointed with our stay at the Granary.

Where to even start, when we arrived we were met with the strongest smell of damp and mould. To a point the smell saturated our clothes upon arrival home. The damp was much more present in the room our child was staying in which is not great. There are also no windows within reach of the living space to get rid of some of this smell. The noise from upstairs was unbelievable, I think they may rent the upper level out to permanent occupiers but essentially there is no insulation between the two floors. Meaning you hear every footstep, every movement etc. On New Years ever the noise was so bad I counted at least ten times the tenants walked from the bedroom to the kitchen. We also had to wake up at 6am both mornings as this was when they would wake and the noise was unbearable. The owners clearly know this is a problem due to the other reviews but don’t seem to be doing anything to address this. I think Skye cottages should also take some accountability for hosting this property knowing the issues. We didn’t have the break we were anticipating over New Year’s Eve due to the issues above. Avoid booking at all costs.
