What our customers say about their holidays

    • Diane - Verified booking

The cottage was lovely and in a great location, just cross the road and onto the beach for long walks.

The kitchen was really well equipped and the general decor was well done and cosy. Cottage is in a good location for getting out and about with Bamburgh close by which is one of our favourite places. The only downside to Coral Cottage was the EV charger which did not work, this was a welcome feature and much needed on arrival. On contacting the number we were given got through to Northumbria Coast and Country Cottages, we had to ring four times over four days, not once did they return a call telling us any updates. I understand that things do go wrong but assume this had not been checked as unlike the wood burner we weren't notified that it was not working. We got told on the third phone call that the owners had said we could plug into the cottage, this was not possible, for one thing we hadn't brought the plug in three pin charger but in any case it wouldn't have reached a socket and even if it had it would have meant having the front door open while charging which obviously is not practical, I explained that we didn't have it to the lady on the phone and she mentioned trying to get something out to us, again, no call back. Due to this we had to be looking for charging points on occasions when planning days out, not what we had expected to be doing. The poor customer service is what has annoyed us and I think the owners should be aware. I contacted Sykes on our account as it says to do but so far have had no reply other than an automated one.

A lovely cottage with patio area and smallish grassed area up a few steps.

The cottage was very comfortable and clean and nicely furnished. The kitchen is well stocked with crockery & cookware and appliances, even a small coffee machine (the type with pods). We did find the two clumsy and awkwardly placed swinging arm lamps either side of the sofa a nuisance and apart from a few general maintenance issues we were not disappointed and enjoyed our stay. The beach is just across the road and down a short footpath and Bamburgh and Seahouses were just a short drive away. In the spirit of constructive feedback the maintenance issues as follows: - The grass needed cutting and garden furniture needed a bit of tlc, inside, cobwebs from the beams, ivy obscuring one of the skylights (knocks against the glass when windy), missing door threshold into the lounge and damaged door threshold in the hall nearest the shower room, rust stains from a slight or previous leak on one of the hallway skylights, also we had to scrape back the stone clippings in the bin store to get the bin in and out and to be able to close the door properly and as you expect guests to put the bins out for collection it might be an idea to update your information booklet. (We looked up the correct day on the council website). Lastly, as mentioned in other reviews, we were disappointed there were no logs for the wood burner, it appears to be BYO! These were minor issues, the cottage and location are great!

A beautiful looking property with high ceilings and wooden beams looks stunning ...

A beautiful looking property with high ceilings and wooden beams looks stunning and All the facilities were there( had trouble finding cutlery) but a phone call later and a hidden drawer solved the mystery it really could do with a deep clean - you can forgive spiders webs high up in the eves but in lamp shades next to the sofa and at the side of the sofa in corners of skirting ( a quick hoover would have sorted) The living room tv was extremely dusty and the shower door runners were very grimy ( small things but easily fixed) and we can’t be sure but we both thought maybe the bedding wasn’t fresh We were disappointed with our 3 night stay mid October ( only managed 2) went home early - it was freezing cold (unable to use log burner a sign stuck on the front informing us of health and safety issues) and the heating system just doesn’t warm the property adequately Not a problem for a summer stay but not recommended for the cold weather Also when leaving the key security box wouldn’t lock so had to drop keys in at seahouses office

Because the property was all ground floor level we expected it to be disability friendly as both myself & my husband have mobility issues. We found it difficult to negotiate to the front door as the o initial steps were difficult & no handrail. The main door steps are far too narrow & the step up into the house was far too steep bordering on dangerous. Again no handrail. I spent the week being very anxious that my husband was going to fall. The front door was impossible to lock so we had to leave the house unlocked each time we went out. Surely this should have been picked up by the cleaner. The en suite bathroom was also far too small to negotiate for anyone with mobility issues. It should be stated in the property information that it is not suitable for the elderly or those with a disability. The lounge settee & chairs leave a lot to be desired for older people.

The property was lovely and well maintained and presented.

Just a couple of points : first of all, the cottage is not that easy to find and directions are not clear, it would be far more welcoming to leave a light on in the cottage for arrival and the heating, even if turned on low. Also a small welcoming gesture would not go amiss. Rarely have we stayed in a cottage where there was not something left out to welcome guests ( a bottle of wine, cake, or something in the fridge with a little note etc)..... it is a nice gesture and always appreciated. Another issue was with the smoke alarm which went off every time we lit the wood burner ( and enough wood for a couple of uses at least should be provided) - that was a real nuisance. The windows need some attention as not easy to open.... and shut. All in all though, we had a lovely time. Northumberland is stunning and evocative, and Coral Cottage was a comfortable place to stay
