What our customers say about their holidays

    • Andrew - Verified booking

From the moment we stepped foot into the cottage, it was evident that this would be more than just a holiday getaway; it was a delightful escape into a realm of tranquillity and warm hospitality.

Tucked away in a picturesque location promising both serenity and rustic charm, this cottage proved to be the perfect blend of homeliness and luxury. The hosts, a truly delightful couple, welcomed us with open arms and genuine smiles, setting the tone for what was to be an unforgettable stay. Their attention to detail and sincere concern for their guests' comfort was apparent from the outset. We were greeted with a freshly baked loaf of bread and a bottle of exquisite wine, gestures that made us feel not just welcomed, but truly cherished. The cottage itself exudes charm and character, with cosy furnishings that beckon you to relax and unwind. The interiors are tastefully adorned, blending rustic allure with modern conveniences, ensuring every comfort is catered to. The rooms are spacious and impeccably kept, boasting large, sumptuous beds and windows that frame the stunning views surrounding the property. Outside, the cottage grounds are equally inviting. Whether it's lounging in the garden, a meticulously tended space that invites you to revel in the soothing sounds of nature, or exploring the nearby countryside, there is an undeniable sense of peace and tranquillity that envelops you. Throughout our stay, the hosts were incredibly attentive, offering insights into local attractions and the dining spots, ensuring we experienced the best the area had to offer. Their hospitality was not just professional; it was deeply personal and heartfelt, making us feel like cherished friends. Alas, as with all good things, our holiday had to come to an end, and bidding farewell was no easy task. The hardest part of our stay was undoubtedly having to leave behind such a charming retreat and the wonderful hosts who made our visit nothing short of exceptional. For those seeking a getaway that seamlessly blends the comforts of home with the luxury of a holiday retreat, Crud-y-Barcud is unrivalled. We departed not only with cherished memories but also with a longing to return. Highly recommended for a truly special and rejuvenating holiday experience!

A lot of health and safety issues and environmental issues e.

      G. piles of rubbish including old radiators , old fireplace, plasterboard and plaster , and lots of bags of rubbish with a dank and musty smell outside house blocking footway from car park to cottages . there was a mouse in the rubbish on one occasion. car park unlit in dark as was footway from car park to cottages causing safety issue especially with so much rubbish on footway. there is disused swimming pool with foul water in it and not securely fenced off causing health and safety issues. The playground facilities were in a bad state of repair with visible signs of rot. the indoors games facilities in a state of neglect and the whole area had very uneven ground. . there was cabling coming from our sitting room going across pathway causing trip hazard .the bath in cottage showed distinct signs of enamel coming away and i would not have liked to sit in it and risk getting my bottom scratched It really was a very depressing place to stay everything in cottage was very dated and tired . we had come up for a family party on Saturday and couldn't wait to leave early the following day .workmen came and worked in cottage whilst we were staying . we are taking the health and safety and environmental risks further as in all the thirty years we have been with Sykes we have never seen anything like it. we have taken lots of photos to prove our case.

We loved our stay at Y Cartws.

The cottages have all been converted from farm outbuildings and Y Cartws was the feed storage and cart house. The conversions are to a high standard with some beautiful woodwork and old beams. The scenery is lovely with the hills ascending just behind you. Great walks from your front door. The beds are brand new and so comfortable with lovely clean white bed linen. It was pretty cold when we were there but the heating was really good ... and we could control it ourselves. The log burner is an added bonus. There are stair gates on both the bottom and top of the stairs which is handy for kids and dogs. WiFi worked great. Washing machine AND tumble drier, very important in Wales. Eirlys, the owner, took over the farm in May 2023 & she is giving the cottages a real makeover. She is lovely and friendly. Her daughter Gwen is very sweet and she played with my 9 year old son and took him to see all the animals which he loved. I would definitely recommend staying here. Rachel, Judy & Patrick (Midlands)

I recently had the pleasure of spending a holiday at a charming Y Cartws cottage with my family and it was an experience I won't soon forget!

Nestled in a picturesque location surrounded by lush greenery and tranquil nature. The cottage provided the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The cottage itself was beautifully decorated, combining rustic charm with modern amenities. The cozy living area featured a lovely fireplace, making it the perfect spot to spend time with my family. The kitchen was fully equipped, allowing us to prepare our own meals with ease. Early morning, we were greeted by the soothing sounds of nature. Overall, our holiday stay at this cottage was everything we hoped for and more. The combination of comfort, beauty and welcoming hospitality made it a truly memorable getaway. I highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat in nature!

      Fabulous location and cottage.

Had everything we needed hosts were very accommodating and friendly and went over and above for our little boy: Peaceful location with the river on your doorstep. It was bigger than I was expecting which was a nice surprise and therefore was bread and wine waiting for us which was lovely. It wouldn’t stop us coming back but I did feel it could have been a little cleaner. I understand it’s a farmhouse on a farm so there’s bound to be evidence of that in terms of cobwebs and spiders but I did feel there could of been slightly more effort into cleaning some of them away. Thanks for having us Sheila and Hugh we would love to come back some day and Our boy did not want to leave.
