We had a short break for 3 nights at Freeborough Cottage & wished we could have stayed longer.
We received a warm welcome from Carol the owner & some welcome treats which was a lovely touch. Carol is really friendly & also gave advice about local places to eat & visit but there are also leaflets & information about tourist attractions within the cottage too. The cottage has amazing views of the surrounding moors with a partial sea view & is in a great central location for days out to Whitby, Runswick Bay, Staithes, Saltburn & Robin Hoodâs Bay. There are local villages & places to see nearby. The cottage itself was immaculate, everything that you need for a self-catering break & the grounds are kept very well also. As nature lovers we enjoyed the added bonus of a barn owl flying round the cottages & countryside each evening. We will definitely be coming back to stay again.

One of the best cottages we've been to.
A beautifully designed and built conversion, nicely furnished and decorated. It has spacious, comfortable rooms and two high quality bathrooms. The kitchen/diner is well equipped. The owner, who live in the adjoining house, was friendly and welcoming and quickly sorted a few queries we had. We were welcomed with wine, cake and fresh flowers as well as bread, milk and eggs. The property also enjoys a very attractive, well maintained garden equipped with all the necessary for alfresco dining. The location is rural and quiet and in a very picturesque area of the Esk valley, quite remote but with reasonably short, scenic drives to Whitby, other parts of the coast or some of the bigger inland tourist spots. Definitely recommended.

Very compact, but beautifully finished and presented.
We had no complaints about its cleanliness when we arrived but when we did our farewell clean through there were a couple of points that made us wonder whether the cleaner is assiduous as should be, so marked it down a bit. It's so easy to clean it would be tempting to skimp. It was a warm week, without being brilliantly sunny like most of England. Nevertheless the central heating, which was programmed to be on, made the cottage too warm at night and we turned it off. The cottage info sheet correctly informs bin collection is on Monday, but the blue recycling bin was not collected that day. When is it collected? This should be added to info.

Our week stay at Freeborough was amazing and peaceful.
Carol greeted us almost immediately which was lovely, showed us where everything was and how the heating worked, wonderful host. Carol checked in with us a couple of times during the week to check all was ok which was lovely. The added bonus was the washing machine â¦we travel light! The views from our cottage were stunning, we sat outside most mornings and evening. We enjoyed sitting outside watching the wildlife. Freeborough was a lovely, comfy, clean Yorkshire home for our week adventuring on our motorbikes. We would recommend Freeborough to our friends and stay there again.

Lovely cottage in a perfect peaceful setting with lovely views. One of the best areas to stay as close to the scenic moors, steam railway and British Rail line with station conveniently in the next village of Danby, Whitby and coastal resorts. Excellent food at the Fox & Hounds in the village. They even reserved us a couple of roast dinners for the Sunday evening. Unfortunately our week was spoilt slightly by atrocious weather but we made the best of it on the two good weather days. Memorable trip on the Nth Yorks railway from Grosmont to Pickering. Saltburn also worth a visit.
