What our customers say about their holidays

    • Katie - Verified booking

The first thing to say is that this is a lovely, extremely well equipped cottage within a short walk to the beach, with other lovely walks nearby.

There is, of course, a but.......don't be lulled into thinking "it's a village, how much traffic can there be"! Parking and the traffic noise are a nightmare. Not only is the cottage right on the road running through Burton Bradstock, it is also where the road narrows allowing only one car through. Subsequently you have cars and lorries outside the window idling in a queue, or revving up to rush through. Traffic noise can start early, and two of the three bedrooms are at the front of the house and are unsuitable for light sleepers. Even those of us who normally slept well were woken early (we are talking 5.30 one morning and certainly by 7.00). As the cottage is right on the road, trying to get to the other side of the road where the pavement is can be tricky and time consuming, particular with dogs (equally I can imagine with young children). I looked for Donkey Lane where one site said to park and frankly this is illusionary at best, a narrow lane for single file traffic. Parking on roads nearby was a bit hit and miss and, I suspect during holiday season a parking space would be a rare find. The garden is lovely but you do have to pass the kitchen window and lounge of the cottage next door which feels a little odd, particularly at night when taking the dogs out for a last wee. Despite the lovely cottage I would not book again, and neither would any one else who stayed with me. Lack of sleep and parking do not over ride the plus points of the cottage itself.

Cottage was brilliant, easily the best let we have taken.

Usually we find there are items, such as washing soap, scourers, kitchen paper, not provided. Corner Barn provided just about everything we could need to make our week stay a truly worry free holiday. The appliances were all of a high standard, and felt new. Household utility items were all neatly stored. There was a well documented book of appliance instructions, and during our stay, we found the Internet connection always worked, and fast enough for our needs. It was sometimes the little things that impressed us. The well sourced water, free of chlorination, was great, either neat, or in tea. We had some nights of ground frost, and found the cottage stayed warm, even just using the electric radiators. With the wood burning stove suppling heat as well, things were really cozy. Did we have any problems? Well, we never got to grips with the wi-fi linked TV. The guide made it sound easy, but to be honest, most nights we preferred to read or watch a DVD, so we never tried that hard to understand the system. We had a lovely time. The mid Dorset setting, just below the Ridgeway, with loads of good walking straight from the front door was our main reason for booking. The dog loved the holiday as much as we did. Any suggestions for improvement? A hosepipe in the central courtyard, so dirty footware and muddy dogs could be cleaned would be appreciated. Perhaps there already is such a facility, but we never found it.

We had the most wonderful week staying at the corner barn at the beginning of August 2020.

The barn was extremely clean and despite covid measures milk, biscuits and tea, coffee and sugar were provided which was a lovely welcome gesture. Basic cleaning products were also stocked in the cupboards including washing up liquid, hand soap and tea towels. The barn is very spacious and the communal green space outside was a lovely safe area for our children to play. Unfortunately the games room was not open due to covid restrictions. Corner barn is set in a beautiful peaceful area. There is a nice pub just down the road in the village of Winterborne Stickland called the Crown, which was open on certain days. Seating was provided outside due to covid. A large tesco and other shops are only a 10 minute drive to Blandford forum. Corner barn was a great base for exploring the stunning Jurassic coast which was about a 40 minute drive away. We had lots of days at different beaches and enjoyed crabbing in Weymouth harbour with the children. We also went on a lovely walk up bulbarrow hill which is one of the highest points and has lovely views of the coast. I would definitely recommend staying here and would visit again as we had such a great holiday.

A couple of points: the shower room has a rusty (metal)soap tray so we left our soap on the floor whilst having a shower.

We left a note to tell the owners to replace. The toaster had crumbs so had not been cleaned. We did not use it and used the grill instead. Also put this in the note. A few points that they might like to observe: They need to get stronger lighting as the open plan area was quite dark I ended up putting a bedroom lamp on the kitchen units! The slate shingle was difficult to walk on where the parking was its possible without strong shoes on to slip, sandals were difficult to walk on it. for your information: Hedge End is a good 4 miles to drive to so anyone wanting to be close to amenities might find it a drag to drive to Blandford Forum, there is no local shop now in Winterborne Stickland, I understand from locals the local shop closed down 2 years ago. Google unfortunately shows the shop! Apart from that we enjoyed our stay at the barn and the milk and cake when we arrived was a nice gesture.( I see below you ask would we like you to publish our feedback we have put the above for your information so they can correct the rusty tray and dirty toaster! so they might not want that on...

We had a great stay in Corner Barn.

We stayed as 3 adults - my husband and I and my father in law, as well as 1 dog. Having 2 bathrooms was perfect though do note the main bedroom is not en suite. It is next to its own bathroom but not connected directly so you do have to go in to the main room briefly. I like a firm bed but I did find the main bed a bit too firm. A mattress topper would have made it much more comfortable for me. The cottage was amazingly equipped though - any cooking utensils you could want, more crockery than just for 4 people, full tea, coffee and sugar, a hoover, broom, mop and even laundry detergent and dishwasher tablets. I’ve never used so little of my own stuff that I’ve brought! The bridle path opposite the cottage leads up to a lovely woodland walk where you can find a war memorial hidden in the woods where a pilot lost his life in the war. If you’re walking your dogs up the bridle path, please do pick up your dog mess - too many people were leaving it, making it a bit of a gauntlet! Good location for visiting lots of the Dorset coast. We’d definitely stay again!
