What our customers say about their holidays

    • Erica - Verified booking

Wow. We've just come back from a 5 night stay at Potters Barn.

(Two adults and a dog). I normally do fairly short and sweet reviews but as I think this is a fairly new place, I thought it might be useful for others to see all the wonderful things on this property. Parking - there's ample parking for at least 2 cars..maybe 3 compact ones Amenities - absolutely everything was thought of. On arrival we had scones, jam, clotted cream, tea bags, milk provided in the fridge, salt and pepper, washing up liquid, tea towels, shampoo and conditioner bottles, laundry and dishwasher tablets, cookies AND the cutest jar of dog treats and gift bag containing a ball and more treats! All the little things that make such a difference. Water pressure (I know this sounds lame...!) - absolutely phenomenal. The en-suite shower from the king sized bedroom was incredibly refreshing. As hot sleepers we found the duvet a little much for us but we had our own fan to keep us cool. Speaking of fans, a brilliant remote control tower one was supplied in the upstairs living area and that helped keep it cool on our warmer days. Stairgate - there was a soft mesh style stairgate at the top and bottom of the wooden spiral staircase. This was very easy to use and stopped the dog from coming downstairs at night time. Garden - plenty of room for the dog to roam around. We kept him on a long line as he has a tendency to jump over fences. TV & sound bar - fantastic quality. We were able to log into our Netflix and watch our shows. Kitchen - the hob, oven, microwave, sink etc all look brand new and all the utensils were clean and easy to find. The only thing we had a slight issue with was that we couldn't seem to keep the fridge cold. It wasn't a major issue for us as we were only keeping drinks and butter cool. We did email the housekeeping address and got a reply within 24hrs - we didn't need anyone to visit to look at it during our stay. Local recommendations - Boo Koo's had fabulous burgers and milkshakes. Tehidy woods were great for walking. You could take dogs, but there were no bins so carrying full bags round was a bit annoying. A few miles down the road from Tehidy is a beautiful beach called Portreath with a couple of cafes and dogs are welcome on the beach most of the year (from memory July to August they can't be there) Penrose Woods was even better. We couldn't make it all the way around the lake but we'd take snacks next time and pace ourselves better. If you find yourselves in Porthleven, and you like indoor plants. See if Sapling & Bud are there...the nicest lady selling reasonably priced and varied succulents - she will make your day. We had the most amazing time, would highly recommend others to stay here and we've already started to look at availability for next year for a repeat visit.

      Absolutely amazing.

We booked Carne Mill for a week in Feb as it was our 50th, and our Son's 25th, wedding anniversaries, our daughter & son-in-law also joined us. We travelled down through Storm Dennis which was interesting to say the least, especially crossing Dartmoor! 30mins before arriving we received a call from Pippa telling us that the storm had brought down the power lines to the house. Pippa was most concerned and was working frantically to get things sorted. We stopped off & bought some candles & when we arrived, at dusk, found the housekeeper, local electrician & the Electricity board all working hard to sort the problem. Not to be deterred we settled down to a romantic candle-lit evening of wine cheese & crackers and retired for the night. :-) The Electricity board worked through the night & power was restored by the following morning. What a delight Carne Mill turned out to be. The accommodation was spacious and of the highest standard. The kitchen had everything you could need & the bedrooms were a delight. Getting up in the morning & looking out over Gillan Creek was so restful and we did several walks straight from the house. The two swans in the creek would come over whenever we went outside and would happily take food from your hand. Right at the edge of Gillan creek, Carne Mill is perfectly placed for visiting the whole of the lizard. We enjoyed walking at the coast path from Kynance Cove, Church Cove and Helford & watching the breakers crashing at Mulion. We would thoroughly recommend this property.

Beautiful, cozy and comfortable cottage. It would not suit everyone as it has steep uneven steps that the photos do not portray. There are no rails and at night the light would not show up the top to guide you down. There is a drop by the door at the side of the steps that both dogs and children could easily fall from. There is a gate that goes over the top between the wall. It does not fit well, but does enclose the top grassed garden area. Beds were comfy and kitchen had all you needed. It could do with a proper curtain or blind in the double bedroom as the sun wakes you up early in the morning. The cottage was well equipped and in a good location. You need to be good at reversing and parking as the parking area is quite tight and involves a few maneuvers to get in/out. There are some amazing walks on the doorstep. It is ideal for exploring the gardens of Cornwall and easily assessable for beaches. There are so many beaches, gardens and pubs that are dog friendly. There is a lovely dining room as you enter the cottage that is fab for taking coats, boots and drying the dog before going into the lounge. Most definitely be aware of the steps before booking, especially if dark evenings and wet weather are predicted.

We were very pleased with our stay at Potters Barn.

The owners had thought of everything to make our stay comfortable- we loved the cream tea and fudge when we arrived! The cottage has so many little thoughtful extras, such as lovely toiletries in the bathrooms, and a doggy goody bag, it meant that we didn’t immediately have to rush to the supermarket. The cottage was beautifully decorated, warm, well stocked, and clean. The beds were so comfortable we wanted to take them home! Everything was top notch, wi - fi was very good, location very peaceful in a wooded area, great garden for the dog, and to sit out in if weather permitted. The only slight downsides for us were that phone reception was bad due to being surrounded by large trees, but we could communicate through the wi-fi, so not too bad. Also the courtyard area to the front of the property seems to be undergoing some kind of transformation, with no noise, but some properties with scaffolding etc. , and the small bridge at the entrance to the courtyard has to be driven over very carefully. When completed, we are quite sure that the improvements will enhance the property, if the house is anything to go by. All in all, a wonderful place to stay and we would very happily return!

      EXCEPTIONAL!

We had a wonderful holiday in wonderful potters Barn. The furnishings are beautiful and the attention to detail was absolutely second to none and so much appreciated, making it feel like home from home…..in fact I could live there! The welcome goodies were such a treat, thank you! Everything you could wish for in a rental property was provided. It is also ideally situated for getting to all the ‘hotspots’ such as St Ives, Padstow, Porthleven, Mousehole etc. After a full day out it provides such a peaceful haven to come back to and totally relax. We were incredibly lucky with the weather all week until the day we were leaving and it was a bonus having a lovely outside space that caught the sun all day. So much so, maybe a couple of sun loungers would be a good idea. We have stayed in some beautiful barn conversions over the years in Cornwall but Potters Barn comes top! Thank you so much and we sincerely hope to be back next year. Sally, Dave and Brenda
