What our customers say about their holidays

    • Jayne - Verified booking

We stayed for a week at this property.

Unfortunately, there were a number of issues. Firstly, the refrigerator was not functioning correctly, we raised this as soon as we could with Sykes (9am Monday morning) who failed to deal with it that day. We called again the following day and we were given a just about ok replacement about 2/3 way through our week though it was on the other side of the island so made it difficult still to use the kitchen effectively. This whole situation also meant that we lost a couple of hundred £ of food which went bad within 2 days of us arriving and we then had to eat out at a premium, which was not intended. Secondly the cleanliness of the property was not great I’m sorry to say, stained sheets, a mouldy smelling carpet on top floor, black mould on inside windows, dirty & dusty in a lot of places, damp patches all over the place especially in the bedrooms. It was really disappointing considering we paid nearly £4K for the week. The back gate had no lock so was a security hazard for our young child and gate was smashing loudly through the storms on our last couple of nights. The property looks ok at face value but needs updating to warrant the price being charged, you can’t sit on the sofa as the leather is cracked and it hurts your legs, the other sofa is very old and low down and the double chair is like sitting in a rock so difficult to sit on in any comfort. The beds were hard and not great mattresses so a couple of our party got bad back ache, not pleasant. People should be aware that the property is right on a busy T junction and so it can be noisy with the road as well as revellers at the restaurant over the way. Even with ear plugs in, those in the front first floor bedrooms struggled to get to sleep. We were after a peaceful holiday so I think this ought to be clear to people booking as if you have young kids they would struggle. Also parking for 3 cars would be a nightmare so not sure how it’s even possible, 2 at a push maybe. Be great as other have said to arrive to a hot hot tub but it was hot by the second day. On the upside the beach which was lovely is walkable, great park and cafes around and about (though booking is needed) and the hot tub was great even on a rainy day. Sadly wouldn’t choose to stay here again but I hope the owners get the feedback from here so that they can continue to improve experience & warrant what they are charging as our week cost an arm and a leg and just wasn’t up to scratch sadly. Sorry :(

      Well what can I say!

! The pictures are beautiful but they did not prepare us for just how beautiful that view is!! We were pleasantly surprised as soon as we entered the property, first impression was that it was clean and well maintained. But there was something very special about walking down the short staircase to the lounge and seeing those huge floor to ceiling windows with panoramic views of the most beautiful countryside. We were welcomed with a lovely card, biscuits and complimentary bottle of prosecco, such a nice touch :) The entire house was so well equipped, the kitchen was huge and had everything we could’ve needed even down to water bowls for the dogs. The layout was perfect for a large family gathering as we all sat chatting around the table whilst cooking dinner. The lounge was a great size with comfortable sofas and a large tv (although we preferred to watch the view with the sheep, lambs, cows and rabbits entertaining us) Just off the lounge was a huge conservatory packed with games and entertainment for younger children right up to teenagers, complete with colourful led lights. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and welcoming with nice little touches to make the stay more comfortable. The decking balcony outside had a table, benches and chimenea but it was a bit windy to sit out. We did however enjoy the hot tub out front, behind the hedges for privacy it was lovely. It was nice to see a chatty gentleman come the morning we were leaving and completely empty the hot tub, clean and refill. Reassuring that this is also well maintained for hygiene. If I had to give any constructive criticism I would say the mattresses on the beds aren’t the most comfortable, they are very very soft. Also, the conservatory door doesn’t close very well and was rattling in the wind, could also be a security issue. Very minor things! We had a short walk to a lovely beach and a 10 minute drive to some more beautiful spots. There’s also a large retail park around a mile away. We loved our stay and would 100% boo again! Thankyou so much to Lorraine for answering my questions before arriving and Thankyou to the property owner George for the welcome text message. We didn’t want to go home!

      AVOID Very disappointed….

Don’t waste your money! We arrived on the Saturday and within an hour the kitchen door came away from two of its hinges. We fixed this after the caretaker advised on the location of a screwdriver, it came away the next day! Sat down for board games at the dining table only for the dining chair to collapse with me. All seats were also stained. Sunday my partner wanted a shower only to find the en-suite shower doesn’t work. Went to main bathroom and the temperature dial was so stiff I had to use a towel to get it to an acceptable temperature for all the family to use. The children went to use the hot tub and it wasn’t filled up enough so we had to fill it up and then wait for it to heat up. The dishwasher was a third full with dirty dishes. The sofa had a large rip on the cushion. Lamp didn’t work in one of the bedrooms. Main bedroom mattress was so uncomfortable that I chose to sleep on the floor, it was stained and too thin to provide any support. The garden furniture was beyond filthy and too dirty to even be used. We reported all complaints and the landlord advised someone would be with us the next day, no one showed up. Maintenance showed up Wednesday and couldn’t fix the shower as it needed parts, advised we couldn’t use the hot tub as it was out of chemicals and there were no more to provide. This makes me conclude that the hot tub wasn’t serviced. Maintenance arrived the following day to clean the garden furniture but didn’t bring any hot tub chemicals. We had three days where we couldn’t use the hot tub. We booked a 5 bedroom and 3 bathroom property for my daughter’s 18th birthday and were are very disappointed with the rental accommodation. Dear owner I believe a full refund is warranted!

We were a family of 10.

A mixture of 6 adults , 4 small children and a small dog. The property offered us all the necessary amenities and the hot tub was our special request. I did ask if there were 2 high chairs as 2 cots are offered but unfortunately there was only one. This may be something to consider introducing in the future. The house was safe and the garden was enclosed for both the children and dog. We did not bring many toys and it was great to have a selection of toys in the property. You could not ask for a better location. 3 minute walk to the beach, minute walk to the Spar and approximately 30 minutes drive to most parts of the island. There is a restaurant over the road which is in the process of changing hands but there were other cafes and restaurants in walking distance if required. We were unable to find the stair gates on arrival but a simple quick call to the contact provided and this was sorted very quickly. I did see in a previous review a mention of a clothes line of some description which would be very helpful as we were constantly drying towels over towel rails and radiators . As a family with small children we did struggle to tidy and vacate the property by 10am , and this is not a criticism, but an extra 30 minutes on the checkout time would of taken a part of the checking out stress away. I like to strip all the bedding to try and help with the property owners post stay clean up. We would certainly return and stay as a family again. Thank you from the The Smith family.

Area fantastic and nice cottage however there was a few issues that need addressing.

There is no mention of CCTV in operation and does not conform to regulations, Part of the cooker did not work and most of the control marking had been rubbed off with age. Advertised as having fridge/freezer & fridge and freezer but only has fridge & freezer. Curtains were in very poor condition and a door had a broken glass in it. Needs tumble dryer as nowhere to dry towels etc. Shower plughole blocked with hair. Hand towel stained. Fly infestation in the kitchen and one of the windows was difficult to close if opened. Bread bin rusty. Twin single room sink blocked. No cupboard space to store food. Microwave is in utility room needs to be in kitchen. Pans and plates needed cleaning before use. Twin single beds badly stained on the base and mattress protectors stained. Central heating base temperature set too low and had to keep overriding. Dishwasher very noisy. No recycling unless you take it to tip yourself. Care taker entered property without notice. Dog owners beware as gardener warned us of an adder (snake) nest on the boarder of the field. A bit more attention to detail would vastly improve this cottage but they need to be more honest in the advertising as we would not of booked had we known of the CCTV. As it currently stands i would not recommend for disable.
