The Rousdon Estate is a fantastic place to stay.
There are good short walks around the estate with a lot of interesting and quirky buildings to look at. For longer walks, the massive plus is that the estate has its own path down to the Undercliff (about half way along) from where you can walk to Seaton or Lyme Regis. If you cross the Undercliff path the private path continues on to a private beach which was virtually deserted both times we went (although the path is quite challenging). 2, Old Home Farm itself is a very clean, airy and well-appointed house which had easily enough space and seats, etc for seven of us. The large fridge-freezer was particularly welcome as we did a lot of cooking ourselves. The house also has a nice sunny garden, front and back. We didn't have any of the problems previous guests had with showers (we've had a lot worse!) However, although it was very clean, we did have a few niggles about how the house had been left for us. First, we had asked (when booking and also by phone the week before we came) for both the beds in bedrooms 1 & 3 to be made up as superkings. We had received an email saying that this would be done but bedroom 3 was still a twin when we arrived. We had to zip-link it ourselves and luckily we had brought a spare double sheet and duvet. Second, like the previous reviewer in April we were pretty appalled to be greeted by a pile of 26 empty bottles just lying around outside the back of the house. Then we found a further 14 bottles in a food waste bin in the same location, making 40 in all. Clearly the cleaners expected that it was future guests' responsibility to dispose of their predecessors' empties. Anyway, we put them all in black sacks and put them in the orange top black bin - where all rubbish and recycling has to go - and put the bin out on Tuesday night for Wednesday collection. We found out about this in the guest book but it would be helpful if this info could be displayed more prominently. In addition, there was no outside bucket for cleaning our dog's paws after a muddy walk so we bought a Lyme Regis "Crab Bucket". Before leaving, we wrote "2, Old Home Farm" on this bucket and left it outside the back door for future dog owning guests to use, so we hope that it is still there. Finally, we would like to say that these were only minor irritations and we really enjoyed our stay at 2, Old Home Farm and on the Rousdon estate and would definitely recommend it

We've visited several times before and absolutely love Watersplash - it's a perfect retreat with bags of character even when the weather lets us down, and the location is idyllic.
But there were issues on this occasion. We'd complained before about the razor sharp edges on the drawer handles especially in the kitchen after slicing my finger on one last year, but no-one has done anything about it. The quality of washing up by previous occupants was poor - dirty saucepans (I had to rush out to buy scouring pads) and food stuck to cutlery and plates and there was an unpleasant smell in the kitchen which took days to clear. The bin bags had all bio-degraded so we had an issue putting out the rubbish. The garden furniture, which was broken and dangerous last year, has been removed but not replaced. So no chance of breakfast at the garden table. The decking was terribly slippery when it rained and the garden needs a tidy up. We love the cottage and feel very sad when standards start to slip. It's not at all cheap (especially as only 2 of us) and I stress that these are small issues but do need attention. We don't want to complain when we're on holiday - it sours something we've been looking forward to for so long but hope that polite feedback will now be acted on. If photos show garden furniture it should be available, even in March. On the plus side, cleaning was generally to a high standard - we met the cleaner and she was delightful - a credit to the company. The bedroom is super-comfortable and the heating (in a very cold wet week) was blissfully reliable. So, in spite of a few gripes, a great little place to stay.

On arrival we were met with a damp smell in the living room, settee felt damp, also didnât look the cleanest or comfiest and arm covers were dirty.
You could see the damp in the wall leading to the kitchen. Itâs a good job weather was beautiful and we spent most of our time out, the living room furniture didnât really cater for 4 people to sit in comfort!. The kitchen was in need of a face lift, dishwasher was dirty and rusty, we had to wash everything before we could use it. The garden needed attention with some dog poo left behind. We found cobwebs on the kitchen walls above the cooker and between the dresser and cupboard. The blind in one of the bedrooms had actually come down and was left on the windowsill, Lyme Bay offered to come and put it back up but as we were there for only 3 days we had our time planned and didnât want to have to wait in for them to do it. Upstairs was acceptable our double bedroom had a nice comfy bed although Iâm not sure if the bedding was supposed to be white as they looked discoloured. The photos were misleading on the website as the property looks pristine in them, though in reality this isnât the case, website definitely needs updating. Disappointed that we didnât receive a call back from Lyme Bay management after our concerns had been highlighted, we have booked numerous times with this company and never had a problem before.

It was unnecessarily stressful on arrival at the Chalet Park due to the lack of parking and nowhere to offload or unpack.
Other visitors without parking permits had taken all of the spaces to the rear and had blocked any means of turning around in the lane which meant that having found no space we had a difficult time reversing back down the lane. Whilst temporarily stopping near to the chalet to phone you we then had unfriendly neighbours making it clear that they didnât want us parking near their chalet even for a short time. Your parking situation really needs to be sorted out if you are to be recommended to others. Unfriendliness on the site appeared again when cleaners to the next door chalet made clear their displeasure at us using your garden furniture outside the front of the chalet because this prevented them parking their car outside the chalet they were due to clean. These issues took the shine off an otherwise pleasant holiday. We liked all the hooks, having a clothes horse and the view.

This is our third visit, we really like your chalet.
The switch on the kettle seemed a little fickle otherwise everything we used worked OK. The cold tap over the kitchen sink feels like it needs a little tlc. The hoover filter was very dirty/blocked but seemed to suck alright. We missed the stable door functionality. The verge opposite has not been strimmed for a while. The gate onto the access road was unlockable for the duration of our stay, initially because the anchor post had been damaged and after it was repaired because the magnet and plate didn't line up correctly. The bins are now all unlocked (hurrah) but it is a pain having to drag a weeks worth of rubbish from the chalet, if there were more purple bags we could take smaller loads. The smart meter remote display says it needs a new battery. Hopefully we can still afford a week next year because Lyme is our happy place.
