What our customers say about their holidays

    • Sheila - Verified booking

There can be few better places to spend a week before 12 weeks 'self isolation' than at 'The Steadings'.

A fine cottage based on a working farm at the historic 'Tosson Tower' site. Outstanding views over the Coquet Valley, Rothbury and towards the Cheviot Hills. Very close to Tosson Tower is the Simonside Forestry Walking Area.[ Although the single track road to get to the visitor parking areas is a bit grim for low slung saloon cars] Nearby attractions include Cragside and Wallington Hall NT Properties. The scenery of the magnificent Northumberland Coastal Region including Bamburgh, Seahouses etc is about 40 to 60mins drive away via Alnwick with the Castle and its historic connections. The cottage itself is some two miles or so from Rothbury with its shops and other amenities. The cottage and its owners were very 'dog friendly' and walks starting from the cottage itself supported our canine friend. The secure garden was also a definite plus! The cottage itself was warm, well equipped and a delight to return to after a hectic outdoor day. If there is any slightly negative comment, which did not in anyway affect our party of two, is that with only one shower a full six person party would lead to some morning queuing. The cottage itself is extremely spacious with good wi-fi. Overall a delightful cottage holiday in a turbulent week.

We’ve had a lovely week’s stay in Eden Dale, Framlington.

The cottage itself is well furnished, plenty of seating and very comfortable beds. It was clean and well cared for. We had everything we needed for the week and it provided a great base to explore the area. We were worried about parking initially but this was no problem, even with 2 cars. One thing to note is that the road is very busy and lorries and farm machinery pass frequently. This wasn’t a problem for us at night and it didn’t affect our sleep. The dog treats and towels mentioned in the info pack were not available (we didn’t need them but worth mentioning as we looked everywhere)! The yard is a great little space and the dogs did wee and poo in it - it would be useful to provide a hose on the outside tap just to wash anything away to prevent smelling (there is a watering can that was full so I used that, but a hose would have given a bit more pressure). Finally, and perhaps the biggest drawback for us is that the property is damp. We holidayed in August and it was a fairly dry week; however our clothes and bedding felt clammy throughout. A small dehumidifier is available and it collected a fair amount of moisture but not enough to prevent the problem.

Absolutely loved our stay at The Steadings, booked for 6, however only 3 of us went.

We had so much space, we went for New Year for a week as we arrived the Christmas lights outside looked so pretty on entering it felt so warm and cosy as the Christmas decorations were up with the fairy lights on the tree & around the beams, while unpacking Ann knocked to greet us & told us to knock at the farmhouse if we had any problems, however, we did not need to, Beds comfy, shower good, white goods worked well, new sofa's which were comfy & looked better than ones in photos, our bulldog Vinnie enjoyed the large enclosed garden, we used garage door of (games room) to enter garden which had fantastic views to front & side of property also from bedroom windows there was a beautiful garden with a pond & fountain although belongs to B&B. We used the games room every night our nephew had so much fun, however, it was cold at this time of year, we just wore our coats & boots. I would love to see games room renovated with heating & flooring to flow with comfort of this fab property. We enjoyed chocolate brownies and a bottle of milk in a glass bottle obviously produce from the farm, an added extra touch. Well done. Deborah from Gateshead

The cottage was immaculate inside when we arrived.

It appeared to have been newly decorated throughout, the beds were very comfortable with high quality linen. It is situated on the main road with the advantage of an excellent pub restaurant immediately opposite as well as a really good café/coffee shop and village store within a short distance. However, there is only a narrow pavement and there is inevitable traffic noise. There is full central heating and a log burning stove but we found the bedrooms became very warm. On our arrival there were no instructions or information sheets at all. This meant we had to find things such as the wi-fi password on the router or the heating controls for ourselves. Much more detail would be very helpful. The kitchen is generally well-equipped but the pans are all large and heavy so need some trial and error on older electric hobs. The oven grill was very weak and strangely there was no grill pan or ovenware other than a large casserole dish. The location is convenient for both the stunning Northumberland coast or inland attractions.

A lovely holiday in great accommodation and a beautiful area.

Everything was as described. The property had plenty of room and was very comfortably furnished. The pool room / games room was great and we spent many evening hours playing pool and table football . A chalkboard for recording scores would be a useful addition for us competitive types . Our party of 8 adults and two children had plenty of room and were not under each others feet at all during our stay. The Steadings is in a great area, enjoying wonderful views across the valley to Rothbury. Rothbury was a great large village with shops and amenities to suit all. We had a great week and would readily book again. The only things to be aware of would be the very slippery ( but lovely) wooden floors in the living room and steps to the living room. Thank you for such a lovely holiday in a great area.
