Overall we had a nice week in February. The hosts were lovely and met us on arrival. The cottage was cosy and comfortable. The furnishings however are dated. The kitchen lacks utensils and equipment to be able to use it fully. The pillows didn’t have protectors on. The rear garden is nothing like it looks in the pictures and was in bad need of a power wash. The flags were slippy as were covered in moss and algae. There were also steps in the garden which were difficult to negotiate. The main issue with the property is the location and this not being as described. It is very close to the village however this is up a steep hill. There is no-where to walk from the cottage that doesn’t involve a steep hill. Parking was also not ideal. It is on the road facing the cottage - the road is extremely busy for a rural village. Once parked you have to walk on a patch of grass to access the passenger side of the car. The village has some nice shops but the pubs were poor. Im sorry but we wouldnt recommend or stay again. With updating and maintenance in the garden it could be massively improved. However, nothing can be done about the hill or parking facilities.

Very helpful info from the landlord, going above and beyond.
The listing was good. Provision in the cottage is excellent, with good books, games for children, videos; space for food storage (so often absent in holiday cottages); a good utility space. However, potential guests should be told to bring a plug-in nightlight for the top of the (stone) stairs as the only toilet is downstairs. Maybe also advice to bring a gazunder if there are children (though there was unfortunate evidence that others had done that on the polish of the bedside cabinet in the twin room). The sofas are OK for sitting (and the lounge is not large), but I was lying on the sofa with a heavy cold for three days - one of them to be a three seater would have been nice. However, if you do have to be ill in the house, the view is pleasant and soothing. The hot water system was playing up. The plumber who came (speedily organised by the landlady, thank you) who knows the cottage, made a comment, and I did not know if he was saying that he had suggested that it was time for the boiler to be replaced, or whether he was saying it in general about holiday cottages.

Swift Cottage is hidden away up a narrow lane, but in a way that is good because it is quiet.
It is only a short 200 yard walk to the pub and about the same distance via the short-cut footpath to the large Nisa supermarket and filling station and bread shop. So, a very well located cottage. Pateley's high street is only a 7 minute walk away. Well blessed with excellent tea/coffee shops and other facilities. One of the friendliest little towns we have stayed near. The cottage is well appointed with really good kitchen equipment. It is all there if you are self-catering. Gas hobs. Owner and cleaner were outstanding. Very helpful and friendly. Bottle of wine and cake at arrival time was a very generous welcome present. You do not have to drive, there are a large number of walks from the cottage and Pateley. But, the old railway line to Wath and back along the road is worth doing. Also How Stean gorge, Brimham Rocks and Cornerstones Cut are also well worth checking out, but the weather was against us to do anything more.

An excellent cottage, unbelievably well equipped.
The cake, wine and milk left for us by the owner was such a lovely touch, thank you. The views from the lounge across the hills were unbelievable and it was lovely to be able to walk into Pateley Bridge to enjoy a meal in the evenings. The owner was extremely helpful and friendly and I would highly recommend Wren Cottage. Unfortunately the same can't be said of Sykes who were supposed to send us a £40 discount code upon return to book a future holiday with them. Five weeks later, and after numerous phone calls to them, each time being promised it would be sorted, I'm still waiting. This is now the 4th holiday with them this year that I've had the same problem. Their Customer Service, if indeed it exists, needs a complete overhaul. How hard can it be to send me an email with the code? I am now waiting for 2 codes. Come on Sykes, sort yourselves out and give some customer satisfaction!!!

Swift Cottage was one of the best locations we had ever stayed at.
It was a delightful cottage with all the facilities and comforts required. It is located within less than a few minutes walk to one of the most beautiful villages in the dales. Pateley Bridge in Nidderdale is a beautiful location with houses built in Yorkshire stone and set on the banks of the bubbling River Nidd as it tumbles through dales and hills of emerald green. Apart from its delightful little shops and pubs it also plays host to the oldest traditional sweet shop in the country. The jewel of Yorkshire, York City, is within an hours reach as is Harrogate and the famous Fountains Abbey. The owner of the cottage was delightful to talk too as was the lovely chocolate cake and wine we arrived too. Despite the the September rain, an occupational hazard of any Autumn break, we still had a wonderful holiday in the dales and found plenty to entertain us on our holiday.
