What our customers say about their holidays

    • Kate - Verified booking

The Old Dairy is in a lovely spot in terms of proximity to the coast and is very peaceful however I feel there are a number of areas to raise.

When we booked we were told that there was limited wi-fi, this was then changed later to no wifi without the offer of changing our booking or a reduction in cost. When this is put alongside the fact that there is basically no signal there either, it leave you feeling quite vulnerable. The site itself also has a lot of derelict building and materials around which are not mentioned anywhere. If my children were younger, I would have very significant reservations about their safety. There is no outside/security light when returning at night to a pitch black site. The TV is much smaller than the one in the photos and there is a great deal of clutter around the place - too many pictures and bits on window sills. There is nowhere to hang coats and nowhere to wipe dirty or wet shoes. The shower head doesn't sit properly in either of the holders in the shower. I raised the issue of my very dirty duvet and the washing machine during our stay, these were both rectified. The bed linen provided was polyester and cotton when I would always expect it to be cotton and that has always been my experience. This leaves you feeling uncomfortable at night and worse for my younger daughter for whom it caused her eczema to flare up, bleed and be very sore. I realise that it isn't a more expensive property but I don't feel it was up to the standards of other Sykes properties and would make me cautious when booking in future. The owners are clearly very nice people but perhaps need more guidance on what would be expected. Thank you.

We had a wonderful stay at 15 Boscaswell Downs - a lovely, clean and well equipped property in a perfect location.

We couldn’t have wished for more! There are plenty of things to see and do in the surrounding area, especially the beautiful beaches and the most amazing sunsets. If you are able to venture off the beaten track you will certainly find more of the area’s most natural beauty. We absolutely loved the stunning Portheras Cove which is about half an hour walk from Pendeen Lighthouse on the coastal footpath. It’s not the easiest of walks (especially with arms full of beach equipment!) but it’s well worth it! And we also enjoyed a lovely walk from Sennen Harbour towards Lands End where you will come across the RMS Mulheim shipwreck. A day on the open top coaster bus is also highly recommended, for which the bus stops just 2 minutes away from the property on the main road near the shop. (On that note, the shop being just 2 minutes away from the property is also extremely handy!) So much to keep the family entertained, and all topped off with cosy nights in this ideal homely property. We found that we were short of nothing in the kitchen and all appliances were easy to use. The beds were comfortable and we all slept very well. And we felt perfectly settled into the living room on an evening with a cup of Cornish Tea and shortbread biscuits! Would highly recommend this property to anybody looking to discover this beautiful natural area.

We recently spent a delightful week at Boscaswell Downs in Cornwall, and it was nothing short of magical.

From the moment we arrived, we were enchanted by the charm of this lovely cottage. Nestled in a serene and picturesque location, it offered the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The cottage itself is beautifully maintained, blending rustic charm with modern comforts. The interior was cozy and tastefully decorated, making us feel right at home. The well-equipped kitchen allowed us to prepare our own meals, and we enjoyed many peaceful breakfasts and dinners in the quaint dining area overlooking the stunning Cornish countryside. One of the highlights was the private garden, a tranquil space where we spent hours soaking in the beauty of the surroundings. We loved exploring the nearby coastal walks, and the cottage's proximity to both the sea and charming villages made it an ideal base for our adventures. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and attentive, providing us with plenty of local tips and ensuring our stay was comfortable. Their attention to detail really made a difference, and we appreciated the thoughtful touches like the welcome basket filled with local goodies. Overall, our stay at Boscaswell Downs was a wonderful experience. Whether you're looking for a romantic retreat or a peaceful family holiday, this cottage is the perfect choice. We can't wait to return!

We were very disappointed with this dark dingy and scruffy cottage.

It was due partly to its location, down a long unmade road, with o outside lighting at all. The house was seemingly in a scrapyard, surrounded by dilapidated, dangerous buildings, full of abandoned broken farm equipment and falling debris. These blocked the sea view. Indoors there was mould and rot in the bathroom skirting and pipework. The cooker was old and needed updating, and the hood was sticky with old grease, unpleasant to touch, and didn't work. The front door had no mat to the dirt yard, (hard to keep floor clean, just a broken brush and dustpan standing next to the open shelf cutlery area). The cottage was full of random fusty old ornaments crowding the shelves and storage areas with no other space to put things. The dark lounge had uncomfortable small sofas, and stank of mould. The towels provided had a fetid smell of mould. We didn't use them but the representative, Amber, brought some fresh ones. She also got the shaver light replaced during our holiday. Luckily we were able to go out each day on walks, and eat out sometimes, so avoiding too long in the fusty atmosphere. What a good job we had the Cornish coast to escape to. But it has detracted from our experience and I would not trust Sykes Cottages again.

We had a lovely stay at Sea view loft.

We had some fantastic walks through the many public footpaths to the local coves and even along the coastal paths to Penzance one day! Praa sands beach was only a 5 min drive away was one of the best we’ve been to for beauty, cleanliness and the waves!! The owners were very friendly and the accommodation clean and warm and the hot tub was great! We were given a pumpkin to carve and some Halloween decorations which was a lovely touch! We went with friends who stayed in Bluebell barn which we were told by Sykes when we booked that it was on the same site however it was approximately a 15 minute walk away which was okay in distance apart from the very busy A road not having a path all the way which meant we only tried to walk it once. We managed okay with the car for the rest of the stay but just wanted to make people aware of this if they were looking to book these two accommodations with friends / another family group. Overall we would definitely recommend Sea view loft as great base for anyone’s holiday!
