On arrival the cottage was clean and tidy.
However, it was only a surface clean, there were spider webs and spiders that had to be got rid of. The work surfaces and table were not clean. The lighting switches were all mixed up and wrong way round, on was off and off was on. There was no landing light. There was no main light or pull cord in the bathroom of the double bedded room, only a shavers light, which made the lighting dim. The cutlery had to be washed before use and some of the plates too. The curtain pole at the landing window came down when curtains were closed. The toaster tripped the fuse on our first night and we had to make contact with yourselves and the named person on the folder in the cottage, which was difficult as no mobile signal and the phone box we were told to use was overgrown and not working. Once we found out where the fuse box was, we could ask the guests to flick it back for us. However, physical help was not available, so had there been no guests or they were out we would have been stuck with no electricity for a night. We had a fridge full of food and children, so this would not have been ideal. Information in the booklet was not correct about the phone box, there was no information about the rubbish, recycling, washing machine or what to do with the laundry at the end of our stay. We found out about the rubbish and recycling ourselves, though these bins were overflowing! The laundry, we stripped the beds and put it in a pile in each room as didn't know what else to do. However, we had a nice stay once settled and will have a cottage again, but this was not a nice experience for our first time.

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a fantastic and very relaxing stay here.
The location was stunning, as well as very convenient for visiting places such as Whitby, York and Scarborough. Wrelton is an extremely picturesque village and the surrounding villages and countryside are incredibly pretty. The cottage itself exceeded all expectations. The photos do not do it's size and attention to detail justice. We had everything we needed and more during our stay. The owners have thought of just about everything. We made use of the washing machine and dishwasher and had a lovely cooked breakfast sitting outside in the private courtyard. The cottage was spotlessly clean and the furniture and decoration gave the cottage a very cosy and homely feel. We briefly met one of the owners, Martin, who was very friendly and helpful. We appreciated the respect for privacy, which made us feel even more at home. I would certainly highly recommend Cow Byre Cottage to other people and we would both love to visit again. Please pass on our thanks to Gayle and Martin.

This Cottage has huge potential but is in need of significant TLC.
The key safe catch is worn smooth and difficult to open. The upper panel of the front door is rotten. Not a welcoming first impression. The low voltage lights in open plan room are too dim and do not reflect the bright photos in your website. Very antiquated fixed shower over difficult to access bath, hazardous for elderly. Piping hot water from taps but only-luke warm in shower. Lack of signage off lane. Problem shared by neighbours. BBC channels constantly pixilating to the point of unusable. Wi-Fi connections erratic despite visit from Open Reach mechanic. Comfortable lounge furniture and beds. But limited wardrobe space. Excellent central heating system. Peaceful location with regular visits from neighbouring peacock. Easy access to regional attractions. Recommend Pickering/Whitby steam railway, CedarBarn farm shop & Cafe en-route to Thorton le Dale, Cropton New Inn.

This is smaller of the two cottages.
Lovely cottage with everything you will. Nice touch of tea, cake and milk for something after long drive. The patio area is nice and the kids area up at the field with trampolines and slides and goals was great. Had great week here apart from people staying in the other cottage head NO thought of others around them. Allowing their children to knock on our window . But that not the worst. Owners have in the handbook no noise after 10pm however they where loud well after this and on couple occasions after 12am. We decided to leave a day early as we could not put up with it anymore. Guess we where unlucky. But as said the cottage was amazing. If anything I would update the TV and maybe a whirligig for putting washing out on as the wee white frame not the best

No visible signage on road side.
Lounge furniture very sad and uncomfortable. Insufficient instructions for central heating control, especially as we needed to reset the timer for clock change. Quite a few issues with cleanliness, cobwebs, dirty dishes/pans. Very tight to move around double bed, now sport several large bruises as frame stuck out further than mattress. Many lights not working. Pantry light ceiling rose was sparking when switched on. The state of the front entrance way was very poor and unsafe in wet weather. Front door and twin bedroom window frame are rotten. No doormat provided to avoid tramping in mud etc.
