What our customers say about their holidays

    • Simon - Verified booking

Wonderful weeks stay in this lovely traditional seaside cottage.

Clevelyn is in such a perfect location and is spacious, very well equipped and beautifully decorated. Thank you for the welcome pack too which was much appreciated! The place does need a little painting and new carpet in areas but this didn’t spoil our enjoyment. Will certainly highly recommend the cottage to friends and family! Great communication and info from Sykes during booking too, thank you. I must mention the parking though which we found quite a pain to be honest. Two options for parking. Council at £6 for 24 hours and an alternative at £16!! No matter what time we got back the council park was always full! Waited over half hour for space one evening and then over 20 mins the following day! Then didn’t want to use car again for rest of week for fear of not getting a space. We used buses thereafter which thankfully was a really good efficient service! I noticed a resident only parking area adjacent to car park which was always half full. Just a suggestion but could a parking permit be obtained for guests and cost of this added to the price of cottage??

Fabulous cottage in a fabulous location.

Originally from the area I wanted a base to show my partner and children the sights. We have four boys ranging from 14 to 13 weeks and the cottage was ideal. The boys loved exploring the four floors and having their own rooms on the top floor. The facilities were great and catered for our every need. The cottage was very tastefully decorated with lovely little touches. The only ‘issues’ that some people need to consider is that there is no parking at the property and the stairs are quite steep. Both of these are highlighted in the Cottages’s description and weren’t a problem for us. We sourced local free parking and actually enjoyed the stroll to and from the cars each day. Staithes itself is beautiful. The kids loved playing in the harbour and the river behind the cottage. There is a butchers and sweet shop minutes walk from the cottage and a Co-op and fish and chip shop within walking distance. Out of Staithes we visited Saltburn, Runswick Bay, Falling Foss , Sandsend and Whitby and all were an easy drive away.

Lovely cottage in a brilliant location.

Our kids had a room each and managed to sleep through the seagulls' cries better than we did - that was really the only downside to our week. The cottage is really well equipped and comfortable. Staithes is a great little village with lots of character and plenty to do even before you trek back up the hill. We enjoyed the beach and swimming/snorkelling in the harbour, clambering on the sea wall and watching the boats come and go. There's loads of other stuff to do in the area, we walked on the cliffs and the moors, visited Whitby for the beach and boat rides, went as far as Scarborough for the castle and the water park, and generally enjoyed the local scenery and hospitality. We discovered that some of the pubs shut on random days and may or may not do food, so if you're planning a trip including a pub lunch/dinner, probably best to call ahead.

We have been well overdue our holiday this year having both been working from home since the onset of the pandemic.

We have holidayed in Staithes before and were really looking forward to our visit this year. Clevelyn didnt disappoint. First and foremost from the second we walked through the door we knew the place was clean, it smelt it! The kitchen was spotless with freshly pressed tea towels and a new dish sponge. ( I had brought all of my own things in case I needed to use them but there really was no need). The bedrooms and bathroom were all beautiful made up and the lounge was just so comfortable - we relaxed immediately. The weather was poor but who cares about that, we still went on cliff top walks and adventures and we still managed to have amazing food in the Cod and Lobster and pints in the Royal George. I love the little butcher shop and stuffed my face with chocolates from the deli. A proper holiday and just what we needed. We will be back !

Best holiday home I have ever stayed in.

The location was excellent, and there can't be many places in the country that can boast views of sea, harbour, beach, river and cliffs from the balcony and north facing windows. The accommodation itself was beautifully and tastefully presented. The cottage was extremely well equipped with top quality utensils, crockery, cutlery etc., even down to a pizza wheel and a proper espresso coffee machine! Parking in Staithes is a bit of an issue, but once we had secured a parking slot in the well described areas, using the parking permit provided, we found that we didn't need the car again until we left for home, preferring to walk out in either direction from the village and use the excellent bus service to return us home.
