This is an absolutely fabulous location.
However, we were very disappointed with the cottage itself. After looking back on the website listing, we now realise that the photographs taken inside were taken with every light being on downstairs. On arrival, we walked into a dark and dingy room with no natural light save that from the one small window. This meant that lights had to constantly be on and althougn the weather was gloriously warm outside, the cottage itself was quite cold. This in turn meant that we needed to put some heating on. Working the central heating was no minor feat and the electric fire had a mind of its own. Putting one vent on low was giving some heat off but trying to turn it up and putting two vents on, switched the whole thing off. We couldn't get the cooker hood to work therefore, there was no ventilation or direct light over the cooker therefore, door and window needed to be open to get rid of the steam from cooking. Upstairs, both in the bathroom and the second bedroom, the skylight was difficult to reach, even with the window pole, and the double bed dipped on the right hand side, as did the headboard. It was only on the morning of departure we realised that the castor was broken and there was no washer on the the slat holding the headboard in place. Going outside, the lack of privacy was quite intrusive. Gilpin View front door and Bobbin Mill front door are very close together with a joint path leading to both. Outside of Bobbin Mill cottage, there is a wooden table and bench which, quite rightly, their guests can enjoy sitting on. However, this afforded no privacy when coming out of Gilpin View and was quite uncomfortable. I would suspect that those staying at Bobbin Mill would also feel the same way. Gilpin View's seating area was quite unkempt and not very pleasant to relax in, and obviously hadn't been tended to for some time e.g. weeds, overgrown and generally messy and untidy. As one time owners and managers of a holidy let further up into the Gyhll, we were looking forward to revisiting this picturesque hamlet, sadly, on this occasion, Gilpin View dulled what we had hoped, would have been and enjoyable week.

Camellia Cottage is an absolute gem of a place and we will definitely be going back.
The cottage is in an ideal place if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle as you are in between Bowness and Kendal, which is a 10 minute drive. There is a pub that you can walk to which does food. The cottage itself has a lovely open plan layout with the chimney and log burner separating the kitchen and lounge as feature. Just remember to bring some kindling, firefighters and logs as these are not provided and we had to go out and buy some. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs all with duvet covers that are provided. The third bedroom has lots of books so, if your looking for a place to go/walk, there are OS maps and books with lots of information which we thought was very helpful. The bathroom is modern and looks brand new with a decent size bath and powerful shower. The spiral staircase is beautiful but, I would recommend you bring slippers as it is not as soft on your feet and also, the kitchen floor is stone. The cottage itself is well equipped with an oven, hob and microwave if you like your cooking and has lots of kitchen utensils. The garden itself is a stone courtyard so, if you have a dog like we did, we found she didnât like to go to the toilet on it and she preferred the field opposite. The only thing I would say is that the check in times should be altered slightly as a 4pm check in seems too late considering you have paid for 5 days. Overall though, we had a pleasant stay and enjoyed the cottage 100% and we would recommend to friends and family.

Absolutely loved this beamed characterful cottage & area!
Good for dogs. We explored some new walks from here- first day 11 miles from the door & we also ventured further afield too. We visited Hadrians wall & Carlisle Castle for a nice change in addition to our beloved Lakeland walks. light & airy accommodation with nice big windows to view the abundance of pretty anemones in little gardens. Comfy sofas & good sized TV & reception with Netflix for movies after our days walking. Glad we brought slippers for the unique spiral staircase up to very comfy beds, beautiful linen & large modern bathroom with plenty of hot water for the three of us & room to dry our wet clothes after walking. Nice to sit & read in the upstairs spare third room if you donât want to watch TV with the the others. Parking for our large saloon car at the door pleased my husband. , Double glass doors leading onto the large enclosed courtyard was nice on our first couple of warm days.Loved the large side porch entrance to hang our coats & store boots & dog stuff & the open plan kitchen/diner was nice to cook in & well equipped. A large under counter freezer was great for my weeks food delivery on our arrival & I loved using the high wall oven. A bonus was pleasant neighbours in the mill hamlet who gave us some tasty freshly picked home grown runner beans. We had a fab week here!

Firstly may I say an idyllic peaceful place, ideal for a well earned rest away from the busy life, birds singing and the noise of that beautiful running water, lovely and thank you.
Directions for us worked well and great for access to other parts of the Lake District and surrounding places of interest for us. Key collection great and easy to find. Just a couple of suggestions if I may, entering the property we thought the patio sitting area could of been tidied up (shrubs cut back, weeds taken out and table and chairs maybe painted) first impression a little untidy but easily sorted. Inside just again a little TLC and attention to detail required, pictures very faded and not all relating to the area, I think I would take them down and maybe have 1/2 new ones. Artificial flowers replace, fresh plant or flowers. Bedrooms again little touches would make all the difference, remove old pictures, attention to details when finishing off the decor fill in gaps, emulsion over marked areas on walls and either paint gloss or make sure it's washed down thoroughly removing brown stains of bathroom door, and I do hope this is used as constructive feedback in a positive manner as I have wrote it. Lastly we have and would certainly recommend this holiday cottage as a peaceful, relaxing central base for your stay that will help you unwind with very pleasing surroundings, we will go back again. thank you Jayne

The cottage was very clean, the heating was not good at all 2 small radiators ...
The cottage was very clean, the heating was not good at all 2 small radiators downstairs, and the radiators in the bedroom were both twice as big as downstairs, the frond door was very badly fitted and the draft though the door let all the heat out, all the heat from downstairs disappeared upstairs, lovely cottage but not suitable for the winter, we returned home at about 6 pm on the Tuesday and there was no water, I went outside to see if anyone was in the other cottages to check if they had same problem, was nobody about was not sure weather the heating would work with no water so switched heating of, rang the emergency number that gave me another number, both numbers not unavailable , felt very uncomfortable with no help available, so called my daughter, who tried same numbers and had no luck with them, after we sat in the cold for 3 hours we made the decision to return home 2 days earlier, we are both in our 80 to have no back up to reassure us is not acceptable , no duty of care to your customers, have rented many cottages in the past and there has always been a emergency number in the welcome folder, and as for £50 good will payment that is an insult yours Mrs D wood
