What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mrs Smith - Verified booking

We had a lovely holiday at Tower Cottage, the location was wonderful, peaceful but within walking distance of the local facilities and with plenty of walks for the dogs just on the doorstep. The Suffolk countryside is beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed the meals we had at the Bell and Harbour Inns. Being able to walk to both these establishments and also across the bridge into Southwold was a plus. Tower Cottage itself was well appointed and comfortable with plenty of room for our family party and dogs. We spent a lovely long weekend and having arrived to find provisions for tea and cake awaiting us, we found the cottage is very well appointed, with plenty of room to accommodate our party of seven plus dogs. The beds were extremely comfortable and the kitchen had plenty of room to enjoy meals, with enough crockery and utensils to equip a small bistro. Having a ground-floor bedroom and shower room was a great feature for the more elderly member of our group and the large garden was very tranquil and had plenty of room for outdoor games had our party included children. The facilities of Walberswick were a short walk from the cottage and we enjoyed delicious meals at the Bell Inn and Harbour Inn. We had many walkers and one could potentially enjoy a break here without taking a car out at all. There were only two small things that we noticed that could be improved. When we arrived, the fence on one side of the garden had blown down and had no been repaired. As we booked Tower Cottage in particular because of the enclosed garden for our dogs, this could have proved a big disappointment for us and affected our enjoyment of the property. Luckily we were able to prop the fence up ourselves and effect a temporary repair. The second thing was that the drain in the wet-room was not very effective and the room would quite quickly start to fill with water, wetting slippers or other items on the floor at the edge of the room. However, we can thoroughly recommend Tower Cottage and hope to return in the future!

The holiday was great, mainly because of the house we chose to stay in 'Tower Cottage'. Everyone loved the kitchen and entertaining space the best and Walberswick is such a lovely village and only a short nice walk to Southwold. As a family we all love Southwold so were keen to spend a few days as normally we only come for the day. We got to do lots of activities, as suggested in the welcome pack you provided, which was very helpful. We were lucky with the weather so this definitely helped our time spent in Southwold to be so lovely. The house is beautiful, lovely big garden for all the kids (and adults!) to play. The kitchen/diner were most people's favourite part of the house, such a lovely entertaining space and the decor was lovely. The living room has big comfy sofas and enough space for all 9 of us to be in whilst we played board games. The upstairs bedrooms were all a great size. The location of the house is perfect, on the route to a lovely walk to Southwold and only a 5 minute walk from a nice pub we went to 'The Anchor'. As a family we would recommend this house to anyone (and already have!). Thank you for a lovely stay!

Having been regular - one might even say loyal - customers at Durdans for several years now we are sad to find the standard of maintenance leaves more and more to be desired.

Nearly all of the fridge door shelves are now broken, as they have been for at least 2 years, so it is impossible to keep a bottle of milk in the fridge. The Venetian blinds in the en-suite bathroom don’t work and the curtains in the master bedroom need rehanging. The drain outside the kitchen is blocked so the waste water from the sink just flows out onto the drive. None of these are serious deficiencies (although not being able to keep milk in the fridge is seriously annoying!) but they do make Durdans feel rather unloved, and its guests accordingly rather underappreciated . We also arrived to find no tea towels and no oven gloves (we had to go and buy a pair of oven gloves, and fortunately we brought our own tea towels as there are never enough, but to find none at all is really not on). With a heavy heart, I think we may be moving on next year.

Tower Cottage is a lovely spacious property, with a super garden. We loved the huge kitchen. And Walberswick is just perfect. However some more home comforts would really make a difference such as provide more toilet roll and dishwasher tablets, both of which we ran out of. The blind in the upstairs bathroom got soaked anytime we had a shower upstairs. There were black dog hairs on the bedding - understand that sometimes dogs do get upstairs on the beds & although a dog friendly house, for some people this would really have been an issue. And I must apologise to the cleaners! I left some dog poo bags behind - meant to take them to the poo bin but totally forgot as I left, so please do pass on my apologies. thank you.

Had a really lovely holiday. Tower Cottage is a comfortable and well located for the beach, pubs and shops. Unfortunately my dog contracted Seasonal Canine Illness (we had never heard of it, it is a local problem) and almost died. Thankfully, I was able to extend our stay until he was discharged from the vets, so a big thank you as this was easily arranged with no fuss. Tower Cottage is a lovely large property with an enclosed garden that was great for my dog. The pubs serve great food and are dog friendly, a torch is definitely needed in the evenings. The kitchen is well equipped and ideal for socialising. This is the second time we have stayed and I am sure we will again.
