What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mrs King - Verified booking

Vine Cottage is just what we hoped it would be. It’s large enough for all eleven of us ( eight adults, two children and a baby) plus two Labradors, to be together. Both the house and the garden are well equipped. We loved the hot tub. In the house we really appreciated having two fully equipped kitchens, including two fridge freezers and two dishwashers. The dining area was big enough for us all to eat together. There are two sitting rooms so one turned into a play room. The bedrooms were clean and attractive. The beds were comfortable. A great advantage, because of the children and dogs, was that upstairs is accessed by stairs with doors that can be closed. It’s just a stone’s throw from beautiful Walberswick beach, with its crabbing bridges. On the green there is a small play park for the little ones and several shops just a stroll away. We ate at The Anchor and the cafe, which were both enjoyable. A high spot was the ferry across the river to Southwold where we ate at the Harbour Inn and strolled into the town, returning along the beach. We thoroughly recommend Vine Cottage for a delightful break.

This cottage was lovely - a really lovely quiet retreat for us having had a ridiculous busy year up to June. We really appreciated the well stocked kitchen (with pans etc) and nice equipment plus the lovely space for entertaining had we had a group with us. We alo appreciated that the TV and Satellite worked well and the location was great with two pubs nearby and the deli for buying dinner and lunch essentials. So close to the marshes for birdwatching and you can walk into Southwold via the bridge and back again over the ferry and evening walks on the beach - fabulous. I also recommend the coffee and cakes at the Tea Shack in the main village and the Anchor pub for food. We slept in the annex as this is the biggest room (and the main bedroom is somewhat dark i.e. no much light coming through), but the annex is superb with the doors on to the patio. In all we were able to completely relax and will likely book again.

Having been regular - one might even say loyal - customers at Durdans for several years now we are sad to find the standard of maintenance leaves more and more to be desired.

Nearly all of the fridge door shelves are now broken, as they have been for at least 2 years, so it is impossible to keep a bottle of milk in the fridge. The Venetian blinds in the en-suite bathroom don’t work and the curtains in the master bedroom need rehanging. The drain outside the kitchen is blocked so the waste water from the sink just flows out onto the drive. None of these are serious deficiencies (although not being able to keep milk in the fridge is seriously annoying!) but they do make Durdans feel rather unloved, and its guests accordingly rather underappreciated . We also arrived to find no tea towels and no oven gloves (we had to go and buy a pair of oven gloves, and fortunately we brought our own tea towels as there are never enough, but to find none at all is really not on). With a heavy heart, I think we may be moving on next year.

A lovely, characterful cottage, or two in reality, merged into one. Two kitchens, which was handy as we had both meat eaters and vegans amongst us. The setting in Walberswick is really lovely, affording interesting walks and sunsets over the trees and the water. Visiting in winter parking was not a problem (four cars) within the small drive and the street where the cottage is. Restrictions apply at other times. As a setting for an annual weekend away for our amateur writing group the cottage suited very well, with lots of corners to hide away and write, and a generous sitting room to come togehter as well. A splendidly big table was great for shared meals! We all agreed, despite a few minor niggles (the house was freezing cold when we arrived, would have been good if the heating had been turned on for us) we would definitely come again.

This three bedroom cottage sits in a great position. Close to the beach and 50 yards to the nearest pub. Parking outside the cottage was ideal. Although we stayed in November when it was quiet and parking anywhere wasn’t a problem, it will different in high season. Small courtyard garden is secure for dogs. Inside the cottage laid out well with a good size kitchen diner for eating. Kitchen well stocked with everything you need. Downstairs toilet included. Two comfortable reception rooms and all bedrooms were a good size. Bed comfortable and views to southwould and the sea. Large family bathroom and good size shower cubicle. All in all a great cottage to spend time in and enjoy what walberswick has to offer , we loved our stay there and will return
