What our customers say about their holidays

    • Roy - Verified booking

We thought long and hard about doing this review.

The host was so helpful and apologetic about the issues we experienced at 8 New Cottages, however the experience did spoil our holiday and so on balance we should be honest about our experience. When we arrived at the property we were welcomed by the owner who is a lovely lady and extremely helpful and she even gave my wife a Birthday cake which was a lovely gesture. We noticed lots of cobwebs around the house, especially in the bedroom which we removed ourself but more disturbing there was a strong smell of 'smoke' in the bedroom. We understood that the previous customer may have been smoking in the property. The first night was uncomfortable due to the smell of smoke so the owner made up the second bedroom for us and gave us a box of chocolates as an apology as we had also discovered ants downstairs and there were already a lot of dead bugs in the lounge window which I sent her a photo of. Again, The owner sorted this issue out the following morning and put ant powder all around the house and cleaned up the windowsills and also shampooed the bedroom carpet to get rid of the smoke smell. We also had no heating or hot water that morning. The owner sorted the problem out instantly as the property needed the gas bottle changing over. The second night we had to sleep in the second bedroom but the mattress was so uncomfortable and the smell of smoke was still apparent and was also on our clothes. We had a few minor issues: No Terrestrial TV/ BBC/ITV- there is a smart TV but it is not connected to an ariel and no streaming services were included. Also no USB charging sockets anywhere. Hot & Cold water taps wrongly labelled in the kitchen. No salt and the sugar was damp/solid- The owner replaced both promptly. Coat hook in the entrance hall to kitchen falls off the wall if you hang anything on it and the bedside table handle drawer also fell off The smell of smoke was still strong that we decided to cut the holiday short by 1 night and we left at 5pm on the Sunday. The property is in a great position and the owner is lovely and very helpful. I'm sure the issues we experienced will be rectified and future guests will have a much better experience,

We arrived in the dark so were very pleasantly surprised with the sea view and the livestock that we woke up to. The bungalow is perfectly situated to explore the west coast - a coast we had previously visited and wanted to explore further. The welcome goodies gratefully received and the facilities are excellent - even a whisk and some weighing scales for when our children wanted pancakes! We have been very lucky with the weather and have visited Mwnt, New Quay, Poppit Sands and Llangrannog - all of which I would recommend. Crabbing off Aberaeron Harbour and Cardigan Island Farm Park is a must if you have children (and even if you don't!) for sightings of seals and dolphins. The hot tub is a great feature - one that swung it for us when choosing where to stay. We would have no hesitation in staying again

      What a find!

! Booked a last minute short break away, not too far from home but somewhere with lovely countryside and some peace and quiet. Alex was the perfect host. Sent us ideas of places to visit, nice places to eat that were doggy friendly and was waiting to meet us on arrival. She showed us around, and advised how things worked and where to find her if we needed anything. The cottage was immaculately clean, very comfortable and everything we needed. There is a private parking spot and a lovely sunny garden. The bed was comfy, and the shower was great. Will we be back?? Most definitely, there were lots of places we'd like to explore. Ignore any bad reviews that might be posted, this lovely lady couldn't be a better host and her property is perfect.

      Perfect accommodation and fantastic location.

Couldn't want any more with the accommodation. Quiet rural location, great views, underfloor heating so nice and warm in October, comfy beds, everything you need in the kitchen, great wet room, always lots of hot water and a good signal for the TV. For those concerned about wifi, there was enough for 3 of us to access emails/social media/game/make bookings etc. There wasn't a phone signal, but we have EE wifi calling, but there was a signal just up the road. The location is fantastic for exploring North Wales, with great walks on your doorstep, especially Bryn Alyn, which is a must - and if you can't walk up/down steep hills, there is a gentle walk to the top from Pant Du Road.

The property was cozy and host pleasant and very helpful.

I know the stairs got mentioned in the description, how ever they proved difficult for myself too. Outside: parking was difficult ,very dark at night and no light or not working to front. Couldn't use front door due not able to lock the front door. A downstairs toilet would be helpful and much needed in our case, to avoid the journing up/down the stairs. Sofa very low and uncomfortable. Idea for visiting family . Lovely cottage and garden. The owner was very accommodating to our needs. My reason for not returning would be because of my husband's mobility and health needs. Theses comments are purely based on what out needs required.
