What our customers say about their holidays

    • Jude - Verified booking

The property was delightful and very spacious.

And thankfully the central heating was extremely effective as the weather had definitely turned a bit cooler! The bedrooms were all big and the beds were very comfortable. Sadly due to the inclement weather we couldn't make use of the garden but it too looked fantastic. We were spoilt for choice in dining places but settled on the kitchen as the dining table at the back of the house was in use for two 1000 piece jigsaws (see weather). A minor problem with the DVD was promptly and successfully dealt with. My friends and I all thought it was an excellent house in a lovely little town in a very beautiful part of the country. The nearby pubs were all very welcoming and the food was good. It's nice to visit a town which is not full of all the usual shops and the quirky nature of some shops made for a very enjoyable experience. I would mention the Poetry Pharmacy on High Street for an amazing and eclectic selection of both poetry and non-poetry books and Simpson's on Church Street for cards in particular. If you like books and cards respectively you won't go wrong with these two shops. And if you like second hand CDs and books then Yarmouth House is the place to go. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Laurels as a great place to stay.

Perfect for family gatherings, 6 double bedrooms, 4 loos, 3 dining tables.

Great for hide and seek. Sun room was our favourite, followed by TV room with Sky package. Parked 5 cars. Bishops Castle has a few shops and pubs, plus a great Co-op, although we had a large Tesco delivery from Newtown on our first day. Large fridge and freezer, plus a beer fridge in the utility. We did “Come Dine With Me” so each of the 6 couples cooked for everyone on their night, we had Sunday Roast, Home made Pizza, Swedish meatballs (from IKEA), Greek, Saturday night party food and Chilli. Half of our party left at 6 am and climbed Snowden (2.5 hours away), the older half went to the excellent Carding Mill Valley (30 mins away). 2 days in Ludlow for the Food Festival and then shopping, Newtown and Shrewsbury also have a lot to offer. Finished with a birthday bash at the Castle Hotel, excellent food, plus a 10% food discount for mentioning the Laurels. Also great at lunchtime on the terrace. Flat entrance but there are a few steps for the sunroom and utility, so not great if you have a walker, plus some bedrooms have sloping floors. All of this adds to the experience in a grade 2 listed building. Thoroughly recommend.

WOW! This property is amazing, highly recommend.

I booked The Laurels as a surprise for my sons 50th birthday, and a family reunion, some of my children hadn’t seen each other for 5 years. The Laurels had lots of surprises, from the super well equipped kitchen, beautiful dining room, snug, enclosed garden. There is a toy cupboard with toys and games to accommodate babies to adult board games. The teenagers loved the games room, dart board and pool table, we made a lot of beautiful memories here. The owner has thought of everything, down to milk in the fridge to tea bags. The bedding is of good quality, we all had a very comfortable nights sleep. Thank you SO much. The housekeeper gave us a tour of the property which was really helpful. A couple of things to mention but not in a negative way. The heating was put on as we arrived, it was really cold and having a young baby with us wasn’t ideal, but we managed. One if the kettles in the kitchen had water left in it, which is a pet hate of mine, especially when the guest has no idea how long it had been in there. Thank you once again

This is a wonderful house for a large family celebration.

...in our case a Ruby Wedding. There are 6 extremely spacious and comfortable bedrooms...three with king size beds and an extra single, one twin and two doubles...one with a cot. There were enough bathrooms for no queues, and three different areas where we could eat. The recliner sofas in the lounge tempted us to relax with a book, while the garden room, leading out into the beautifully kept garden was the focal point for children and dog. We had five children with us...aged 8-1...and they loved this house...it even has a “secret” staircase, and they felt it was “Just like the Famous Five”. There were plenty of toys, indoor and out, and books. On the top floor , teenagers could have played pool, darts or on a PlayStation. ( the dads were found up here occasionally). It is, without doubt the best equipped holiday house we have ever rented. We stopped asking is there a......? and instead asked where is the....?Our 8 year old summed it up as “The best house ever”.

The comfort and facilities of ‘The Laurels ‘ made it an excellent beginning to a wonderful large family holiday.

There was ample space to accommodate all ages from grandparents to youngsters aged 3 . A lovely garden to relax in and upstairs room for the teenagers. The bedrooms were very comfortable and kitchen and eating rooms were very suitable for us all. A really beautiful house. Pat, the housekeeper met us and gave us lots of useful information and contact numbers in case of any problems ( there were none). The Laurels in Bishop’s Castle is in a very good part of Shropshire with lots of places to visit and very central for many walks on the Shropshire Hills. A lovely village, not too touristy. Trips we enjoyed were to Ludlow and Castle, Shrewsbury for a boat trip and a tour of the prison. The village Brewery tour and a local vineyard were very good. Further afield you can visit the Ironbridge Museums ( we needed two days for these) and even Cadbury World at Bournville. After these trips it was a delight to return to the peace and quiet of the village and The Laurels.
