What our customers say about their holidays

    • Anthony - Verified booking

Review of Tidal Reach Holiday Stay Our stay at Tidal Reach was unfortunately marred by several issues that significantly impacted our holiday experience.

Arrival and Parking: Upon arrival, we were greeted by scaffolding at the front of the property. This not only limited the parking space but also made it impossible for me to exit my car using the driver’s door due to the shared driveway with another holiday flat. As a result, I had to park off-road, which was quite inconvenient. It would have been greatly appreciated if we had been notified about the scaffolding in advance. Accommodation Issues: The bedroom floor was quite slippery, making it uncomfortable to walk barefoot or even with socks on. Additionally, the bed was extremely firm, causing both my wife and me to suffer from backaches throughout our stay. This was a major downside as it affected our overall comfort and rest. Dining and Kitchen Facilities: Although the flat was advertised as suitable for four people, there were only three dining chairs available. Thankfully, there were only two of us, but this would have been problematic for a larger group. The kitchen, while well-stocked (over-stocked) with utensils (including eight saucepans, three slicers, two whisks, and three strainers), lacked essential storage space for fresh food and tins. As a self-catering flat, it was surprising to find no storage cupboards or even a breadbin, which made meal preparation and storage quite challenging. Information and Amenities: There was a noticeable lack of information regarding local services such as emergency doctors and dentists, etc. which would have been helpful. Additionally, there were no instructions on how to use the oven. As we are accustomed to a gas cooker at home, we struggled to figure out how to operate the electric oven provided. Guest Interaction: Normally, guests are greeted either upon arrival or within a couple of days to ensure everything is satisfactory. This was not the case during our stay. The only time we met the owner was on the Friday evening of our stay, when he knocked on the door to inform us that the cleaner would be coming in the next day. He did not introduce himself or inquire about our holiday experience. This lack of friendliness and engagement was disappointing. I would suggest the owner take some lessons from the Hotel Inspector on how to be more welcoming and attentive to guests. In summary, while Tidal Reach has potential, several aspects need improvement to enhance the overall guest experience. Better communication, more comfortable bedding, adequate dining seating, proper kitchen storage, and comprehensive information about local services and amenities would make a significant difference.

Not for the tall, not for the wide, not for those with mobility issues and not for dogs!

However Great location, 45minute cliff top walk to Watergate bay and all that it has to offer, as well as only only a 10 minute walkto Porth beach and town itself! Peak season according to neighbours there are a couple of larger houses that are prone to party lets, these often can be quite noisy. Area itself is also known for frequent power cuts we had 3 in one night! The apartment itself was very clean and tidy the bed was reasonably comfy! However being honest I think this let is more suited to a single occupant whom is shorter than 5ft 9 and of a slighter build! to use the kitchen sink properly at 6’2 I had to open the velux window and stick my head out! (The window itself needs replacing as the double glaze is blown) to clean teeth in the toilet sink I had to kneel on the floor! Because of the slopped roof getting out of bed involved a commando style roll manoeuvre. The shower was only accessible sideways on and I’m of a slimmer build to many! The apartment isn’t really dog friendly with no garden, only a small balcony with a flimsy dog barrier (not fixed) which can be blown over in a mild wind the very steep steps meant we had to carry our Dog up and down! Also Because of the design privacy in the bathroom is an issue, even when your partner goes out onto the balcony because of the loo window, even there you can’t hide what you’re doing! Facilities were all there but washing machine and dishwasher were downstairs in a separate location so never got used! No ironing board, table is glass so can’t use that, so the floor or bed is only option! (Not good for packed clothes) Top tips if you’re staying here! Take coffee pods take a couple of sharp knives as the ones supplied are useless! Take a washing up bowl! Take some board games and torch and a couple of battery packs to keep your phones charged! It did the job for us! It took a couple of days to adjust to the place in my opinion just needs a re design refit

We adore remote places and and beautiful scenery and that’s what Creenagh’s Cottage offers.

It is not luxury but it provides everything you need and is a wonderful base for walkers or for anyone wishing to explore Exmoor. There is a cosy sitting room, a spacious bedroom, a well equipped kitchen with an excellent oven & hob and a sweet and very sunny little private garden which was lovely to sit and have a beer in after a hard day walking! Our hosts Geoff and Bev the farm owners were lovely people, and kindly provided some bread, butter, biscuits, milk and wine to arrive to which we much appreciated. We met the 3 Alpacas one day who seem characters! In the garden we were deafened by the sound of the birds and bees but nothing else. Heaven! Wonderful to hear the owls at night too. We are lucky to have been blessed with amazing weather for our stay and have much enjoyed it. I recommend popping in some insect repellent as we encountered few pockets of horseflies but only when out walking. For people to whom location is important in terms of using the village shop or pub, please note that the location of the cottage on the Sykes website map plus some of the information they give about its location is incorrect. Find Knighton Farm on the OS map and that is where it is (NOT Waterhouse Farm which is much closer to the village of Withypool and where it is incorrectly positioned). Strolling to the pub in the evening is not an option. Knighton Farm lies across a valley about a mile to the west. It's a shame that visitors arrive at this beautiful spot are disappointed to realise it's not where they thought it would be! If you take your own provisions as we always do, it is an ideal and beautiful location and we had a fabulous time. Thank you Geoff and Bev. (There is Wifi at the cottage but no mobile signal so we made our necessary calls using Whatsapp which worked fine.)

We enjoyed a fabulous week in our chosen property.

It looked lovely in the photos and on arrival, exceed our expectations. The view from the decking was amazing, unfortunately the decking was rotten in places and my chair leg fell down a hole when I sat down! which was a little unnerving. Some wire fencing around the roped off area at, the edge of the decking would have been an advantage, as Phoebe was keen to search out the smells in the hedge beyond!! The welcome pack was a very generous and unexpected treat, thank you. The property was furnished to a high standard throughout, with a really comfortable bed, nice linen and towels etc On arrival the newly fitted bifold door was stiff to open and close, (guests might need to be warned of this, as it takes a good tug to open) On using the shower for the first time, the temperature control appeared to be stuck on hot. We did finally manage to adjust the temperature, thankfully. There was also an oversight, with no towels having been left at the property, but this was quickly rectified, thank you. The instructions for rubbish were to put the bin out in a Thursday evening, for a Friday collection. However the bin was put out on Monday evening, by other guests/owners and emptied on Tuesday and returned inside the gate. We then put our rubbish out on Thursday, as instructed, but the bin was brought in again, on Friday morning, un-emptied, by someone else. Perhaps the bin collection has now changed from Fridays to Tuesdays?? The position of the property was perfect for walking up and down into town and parking was not an issue, either on bays adjacent to the property, or on a nearby street. We would definitely recommend and return

Sykes details describing the Farm, Directions to the Farm and Proximity to the Village/Amenities are not accurate and misleading.

THESE DETAILS NEED TO BE AMENDED. The Farm is not a working Farm. It is a holiday let business with several Alpacas in a field. There is no walking route to the village of Withypool and the drive to the village is 1.9 miles via the private road and B road neither of which have a path to walk upon. The Private road (not a driveway) contains many potholes and is problematic for a standard car to navigate. The cottage has NO mobile phone reception. Description of "limited" mobile phone reception is incorrect. Cleanliness throughout needs to be improved. Removal of numerous spiders webs and dead spiders is needed. The Kitchen area needs a good clean and degrease. The spices and herbs in the Kitchen cupboard were out of date. The Microwave is dirty and rusty. The Toaster is dirty and old. The frying pans were all dirty and scratched with coating peeling off. All these items need to be replaced. There was no roasting tray of reasonable size to use. We had to buy one to cook a roast diner for two. The bathroom has very little storage. The space under the basin should contain a small cupboard or shelving to improve storage in the area. Decoration throughout the cottage is very tired and in desperate need of a refresh. These points are my observations and recommendations for improvement. Positive points is that the heating and shower worked well. The area within which the farm and cottage is located is beautiful and the owners were friendly and helpful. Would recommend Sykes work with the owners to address the items listed for improvement.
