What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mrs Jordan - Verified booking

We have stayed in A LOT of self-catering cottages over the years and have never been as satisfied or impressed with the attention to detail than at Sovereign. It was only 2 main rooms but they were of good size and were very well laid out; the kitchen was well equipped with the essentials without being overstocked (including sharp knives - we always take our own and they were not needed!), there were also a few provisions (oil, s&p, tissues, cling film, foil, enough dishwasher tablets/washing up liquid, and some comp biscuits!), and a whole empty cupboard to put our own food in which is so often overlooked, it also has a full size fridge freezer which again is not often thought about by many places which just sleep 2, the ice cube trays were also full which meant we were able to have a lovely cold G&T on arrival. Everything was were you thought it should be and well laid out. Shoe racks and coat hooks too. Bed was super comfy, as were the pillows and a lovely squidgy warm duvet - with spare blankets if needed. Only downside (sorry, there has to be something!) was the 'bedside lights' being spotlights - these didn't work for us as not calming and quite bright so would suggest angle-poised bedside table lights. Plenty of clothes space and hangers. Shower was lovely - rainfall head could be angled, and the water temp was great and on demand which helped me to warm up after a paddle board and swim (no wetsuit!). Great location - Seaton was a lovely little seaside town with enough things 'going for it'. A lot of restaurants were closed on the Sunday as 'out of season' but we managed to get a take away pizza from the kebab shop which was REALLY tasty. Great brunch from Coast too - would recommend. Car park was a little further away than we thought it would be (5mins not 2) and it took a bit of thinking to find the cottage, but not a big deal. I quite liked not having the car staring at us, it meant we explored more locally which we might not have done otherwise. We did the tram which was excellent fun, bimbled in the shops in Seaton, did Sidmouth with a local friend, spent time on the beaches, did Beer - all very lovely. We were pleased to notice that customer feedback had been listened to - there is now a full length mirror. Would absolutely stay here again if in the area.

No. 9 the penthouse flat had a fabulous view, it was very comfortable, well appointed and had some nice little extras including good quality toiletries. It was very well equipped, having everything we required for a great week. There were things to get you started, toilet rolls, tea, coffee etc and plenty of crockery & glasses . There is a charming, lively Spanish restaurant 'La Casita' within easy walking distance. Also a fish & chip place & 'Una Kitchen' which is on a local holiday park had surprisingly good food from a wood fired oven. There are more expensive places to eat at Carbis Bay Hotel including a 5 or 7 course tasting menu. To get into St. Ives be prepared to walk downhill to the coastal path (a lovely 25 minute scenic trail) or the train which runs every half an hour and takes just minutes. Obviously it's uphill on the way back! The buses are easy & frequent from the main road. We would recommend The Barbara Hepworth sculpture garden, The Minack Theatre, especially if there is a performance on and Mount Saint Michael where the gardens are stunning. We would definitely recommend this apartment.

Loved the sea view and Ilfracombe was a good central location to explore bays & beaches in the area. The property was was comfortable and clean & parking out the front not too much trouble. Fees only started at 10am in the morning & finished by 6pm at night. We usually lucked a carpark there at night without having to trek up the hill. The seagull chorus reminded us we were at the seaside. Handy convenience store just a short walk down the high street. Nice coffee at Annie & the Flint. Massive Tesco at top of the hill if needed. Favourite cafes...Beachcomber in Woolacombe with a stunning view and Blue Groove in Croyde. Did a great day trip to Hartland Abbey where Prince William had his stag. Awesome gardens, house tour and incredible coast. Also a day trip to Lynton & Lynmouth where we took the funicular railway. Fab time all round!

A well presented property in a great location. Nice neutral decoration with a good size bedroom and nice shower room. Kitchen was well equipped. Directions and details on finding and accessing the property were very good and the communication was good. The staff in the local pubs were very friendly and all those we visited were dog friendly, with our dog getting quite a few biscuits! Just to add for those travelling with pets our dog struggled on the stones in the courtyard so we needed to walk to the top of the town for some grass (note two of the parks don't allow dogs and the beach is pebble although dogs are allowed).

    • mrs Grant - Verified booking

The property was tucked away in the village centre but within a couple of minutes walk of the beach and across the road from a lovely pub an Italian restaurant/takeaway with a shop at the back of the garden. The enclosed garden was brilliant where the dog could wonder around without any problems. The actual apartment was very modern and looked just like the photos and was spotlessly clean, it had everything you could want. It was very quiet and relaxing. It may not been the prettiest of buildings but its central location makes it a little gem.
