What our customers say about their holidays

    • Kate - Verified booking

Slade House Farm was a perfect location and property for our family of six (4 adults and 2 children) for a half term get away.

The property was clean and warm when we arrived (in the snow!). The kitchen was big with plenty of dinnerware, utensils and fridge space (2 fridges). The heating system was great allowing the temperature to be controlled in each room. The beds were extremely comfortable with the two upper floor bedrooms each able to be configured into two singles or a superking. The second upper floor bedroom is accessed via a very narrow walkway between a wall and the staircase rail which caused no problems for us but may be an issue for some with a larger frame. Unfortunately we had some issues with the hot water pressure during our stay. We contacted Julie (the owner), who arranged for a plummer to come out within an hour! While the issue was seemingly fixed, the water pressure was still not good enough to run more than a few centimeters in the bath in the upper bath room. The two first floor bathrooms had shower head attachments connected to the bath but only one had a wall mount and neither gave particularly good showers. Because of this we all used the downstairs shower (accessed via the kitchen) for the duration of our stay. This was a nice shower, the water was warm and the room was also able to be kept warm. However the pressure was not great. That said, there was enough hot water for all six of us the have a shower. These small issues however did not cause any real problems for us. The house was wonderful and we had a lovely stay. Julie's cake that was waiting for us on arrival was greatly appreciated and truly delicious. Julie also welcomed us to say that if we has any issues, we should contact her. This was appreciated. We would all recommend the property and would definitely consider staying again.

Julie and John offered us a wonderfully generous welcome and gave us great information to make our stay enjoyable.

They are very attentive hosts and addressed our concerns as best they could. Slade House set in a beautiful, peaceful setting and the surrounding countryside is lovely. We made the most of our access to the nature and beauty of the Peak district. We felt that the property did not meet the luxury standards that the price led us to expect. The bathroom situation was disappointing. The only shower is off the kitchen. It is not a good quality shower and the shower curtain does not prevent water from pooling on the floor. Apart from not being able to have a comfortable and relaxing shower - the hassle to try and clean up after yourself and the resulting wet mats, and water puddles meant that subsequent use of the toilet is not pleasant. The heated towel rails were not working which made it difficult to dry wet towels, shoes and wet floors. While Julie tried to help us sort this out we only manage to get one working. The latch on the door between the 1st and 2nd floor is broken so the door cannot be closed. This means it hangs open across the doorway to one of the bedrooms. The experience I had with Sykes when I needed others to take over the logistics was also really poor. I am happy to discuss this and let you have more information if you want it.

      Fantastic place in.

A beautiful village. Very easy to find and great local areas. We arrived and we’re greeted by Simon who was working outside. Very friendly then later we’re treated properly by the host who was friendly and lovely. Great fresh eggs on arrival which was a lovely touch. The cottage/lodge was lovely and quaint. Bathroom was a little tight but absolutely fine. Kitchen was well equipped even with washer and dryer so. The garden which was ours was to the side of the property was beautiful and well kept. No gate tho which at first made me worried but even if you have a pooch that will rub out its perfection safe as it’s a private road /entrance to the house so I was at ease. Just be careful when washing up as the sink is solid and we accident it broke a glass which the host was very understanding and told me not to worry. Literally the main thing I wouldn’t recommend which is coming from someone who relys on tech is that the tv needs a chrome cast or some casting device so you can turn the tv into a smart tv and cast from your phone on a evening or if staying in the lodge. I worked from home a few half days while there and would of found it easier. Overall great beautiful lodge in a lovely area !

Slade House was much better than we expected.

Walking down to the house Julie had left the lights on down by the path and in the tree so we could see exactly where we were going. A lovely welcome pack which included a home made cake and brownies, milk, fizz and flowers. The heating was on, so it was lovely and warm. It was spotlessly clean on arrival, and the owners have taken great care during this pandemic. With throws and pillows all bagged up with notes to let you know that they have been isolated for 7 days between guests. So spacious for our party of 6, yet such a homely feel. Having two ensuite bathrooms was a real plus. Mattresses were so comfortable. The log burner in the kitchen was wonderful, and with as many logs available as needed was an added bonus. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, as did the dogs. I would definitely recommend Slade House to anyone and hope to be back one day.

On the whole we were very happy with the accommodation.

Some features were excellent eg kitchen equipment, crockery superb. The house was warm and very homely. The bedrooms very spacious and on 1st floor good size en-suite. The second floor bathroom quite cramped though and hard to use bath, no shower. The only shower room on ground floor was ok but rather damp and needing an upgrade. We enjoyed our stay very much and had some great walks in Dovedale. Walking from the house was problematic as cattle including a bull were in several fields with footpaths. The owners do suggest using other fields so it is obvious that the cattle are recognised as being a hazard but it’s not an easy alternative in fact as fields adjacent not always accessible. I would recommend the farmhouse for a relaxing stay for friends and family.
