What our customers say about their holidays

    • Testimonial - Verified booking

"We were very impressed with the standard of The Sanctuary.

It was very clean and well equipped with good quality furnishings. We were met on our arrival by friendly staff and there was a lot of information in the apartment regarding St. Ives and the surrounding area. We were really pleased to have the small decking area to sit in especially as we had our dog Delta with us. We found everyone in the area to be very friendly and we ate out at several restaurants. The Porthminster Beach Café was a favourite and we had a very special anniversary meal there. Luckily we picked a great week for weather so were able to sit outside with Delta. We also loved the outside area at The Loft and were given a good welcome (and a chew for Delta) at Onshore. One night we enjoyed fish and chips from Becks. We also travelled to a favourite haunt of ours at Cadgwith and Coverack. Delta loved her walks on the beach before 8am and we also walked a couple of times to Carbis Bay and had sandwiches and a glass of wine at The Carbis Bay Hotel (not cheap but a lovely location). I think Delta's favourite beach was at Lelant after we have driven there and parked at the church. She could not wait to go for a swim and have a roll in the sand!It was really great to find such a lovely apartment where we could also take our dog and we thoroughly enjoyed our week in St. Ives." We found the Sanctuary clean, comfortable and ideally situated for exploring St Ives.

However, if you wanted to venture further afield without using a car the time taken by bus or train was very long in comparison. Although there were some quality fixtures we would not really consider it 5 stars compared to other properties that we have stayed in. Both the main bathroom and the en suite had no shelves to leave your toiletries on and the main door was very difficult to open/close as it required some of the ‘high spots’ shaved off. We were disappointed that, although advertised as having Sky Cinema, there were very few, mainly older films, that were available to view. There was a hand written note within the property detail folder stating that it had been abused in the past and therefore the full facility removed. That should be updated in the on line description of the property. Also Netflix asked for a subscription when selected; which should also be amended in the property description. We did have one issue when the toaster tripped the main circuit breaker for the electrical sockets in the property. It could not be reset, as normal, and there was no power to any electrical appliances, fridge/freezer etc. However, once reported the problem was resolved within a couple of hours.

      Very modern and clean property.

Positioned close to railway and st Ives town. Main bedroom superb with on suite shower room. The lounge and kitchen area was well equipped with everything we needed. My mother in law has difficulty with her mobility and uses a wheelchair. She comfortably manoeuvred around the property which delighted her. The additional outdoor area and parking space was a very welcome extra. We had a lovely stay. We felt it was a little on the expensive side but you get what you pay for. We couldn’t fault the accommodation. We were welcomed with a very thoughtful welcome gift of Prosecco, Cornish apple juice(which was gorgeous) biscuits, milk, tea and coffee. They even left a packet of dog biscuits. Unfortunately we lost our dog before we could take her away with us, but we really appreciated the thought. The whole area was very dog friendly for those wanting to take their dogs on holiday. Most shops and pubs allowed dogs. I would definitely recommend this accommodation.

We had a lovely October stay at the Sanctuary, so thank you.

This holiday was changed twice due to covid so this was third time lucky! Some feedback... The ensuite shower plug was completely blocked on arrival, which was sorted that same day, which was excellent. The main door handle/lock needs some attention, and the lower lock doesn't work at all. In fact, on arrival the door was completely unlocked. The batteries in the remote control were almost dead. We just scraped through but the next guests will struggle. The dining table was very small for 4 people. Perhaps if the sofa was smaller, or took up less space you could fit in a slightly larger dining table. Finally, we aren't dog owners, but there was a very distinct smell of dog when we arrived. We managed to air it, and removed the dog bed from the sitting area/along with some air freshener which helped. These are only small points. We had a lovely stay at the Sanctuary.

Lovely break in a cosy well equipped cottage ideally suited to a couple.

The area is quiet and rural, a very private group of properties down lovely little country lanes but very accessible - and well located to explore West Cornwall, including Lands End and The Lizard. It was good to have a patio that was fully enclosed for our dogs (and lovely for pre dinner drinks!) but visitors might want to check this is the same for you based on the breed of your dog and their ability to jump and roam! Access to the patio is via a side gate (i.e. not direct from the house itself). There is also a pretty (unfenced) front garden shared with the next door property and a nearby field just across the lane (shared with cattle behind an electric fence). Very welcoming hosts who provided lots of really helpful info in advance of our stay. Would stay again :-)
