What our customers say about their holidays

    • Barry - Verified booking

A great week at The Roost enhanced by the Sunshine though it made using the fab log burner redundant however it is a great 'looker' and feature.

The whole place oozes charm and a quality refurbishment that was worthy of the price paid. Everything we needed was available to us and the hosts friendly, welcoming and living on site were on hand should they be needed - though all was good. The Roost was a lovely place to relax and just enjoy the countryside if that was your want or reasonably placed to visit places of interest Lands End, Falmouth, St Ives, Minnack Theatre and St Micheal's Mount all with a 25 mile radius or thereabouts. Kynance Cove, a little more local, is definitely worth a visit and the Sea whilst bracing could give the Caribbean a run for its money - stunning in the Sun. If I was to recommend an enhancement, I may change the dinning table chairs for something a little more sturdy but note I'm at the upper end of the scales ! Speaking of which the Clotted Cream Scones, Dog treats and fresh flowers on the table were a lovely surprise on our arrival and together with basic condiments, tea, coffee and bathroom toiletries was a nice touch. The shared garden was fine and useful meadow for dog walking a bonus. We walked to the pub a couple of times using the lanes and footpath which was fine but care must be taken on the lanes. We had a lovely time and would highly recommend a stay here and would look to maybe book again together with one or other of the other three properties on the site for a family gathering which I believe could accommodate up to twelve folk whereby The Roost would be ideal as a Nana and Papa's bolt hole! Overall - we had a great time at The Roost and would highlighy reccommend it for a stay on the Lizard peninsula and for visiting Western Cornwall. Barry & Ellen - Kent

First lets start with the negative.

Not all Sykes properties have a full maintenance agreement in place, and like this one have a cleaning only agreement. So if there are any issues you are basically are stuck with it since neither the owner or Sykes will attempt a resolution of the problem. At this property the hob does not work, as the contact number is only for the cleaning they were not in a position to help, when I phoned Sykes they left messages for the owner but they did not respond. As a result we only had an oven and microwave all week, meaning we were forced to eat out more than we wished. The cleanliness left something to be desired, as two large bin liners of rubbish were left outside on arrival for us to dispose of, and the toilet and bathroom stunk of cigarette smoke. A pity really as this with a little effort from the owner could be a 5 star rating. The internet is BT so the strength is top notch. There is a lovely TV with Amazon Prime which can be viewed in the lounge and bedroom. The holiday Park itself is well maintained and the location is perfect, there is so much to see and do on the Lizard peninsula you wont need or want to venture more than a few miles. It is worth mentioning the property has a coin meter for electricity. We were concerned it had only £10 on it, but we need not have been concerned, as believe it or not at the end of the week there was still over £2 worth on the meter. In conclusion more input from the owner required to ensure all amenities particularly the hob are serviceable and the property is properly cleaned between lets, but well equipped, reasonably comfortable in an absolutely fantastic location

The little beach cabin on the whole is a really lovely place, the location is absolutely perfect and great for exploring the beautiful beaches and walks on offer.

The bed and sofa are really comfortable and the log fire is great for those cosy nights in. There were a couple of things that sadly let it down, when I booked in April the property was listed as having a washing machine which I can since see another reviewer has mentioned, I specifically checked this as staying for ten nights felt one was needed, when we arrived the welcome pack said the washing machine and dryer could be found in the utility room. We couldn’t find this utility room at all and upon checking with property management were informed there wasn’t one. This was disappointing as we had packed lightly thinking we could wash our clothes half way through the stay. The other issue which did impact our stay was the blind to the French doors, it is not fitted correctly and was not working and it fell down on our first night. This really impacted our sleep as the light was so bright in the mornings to the bedroom. Property management did come out to put in a temporary fix however it took them a few days to arrive so our first five mornings were disturbed, not ideal as we had really wanted to use this time to rest well and not be up at 6.30am for half of the holiday. Other than those issues this was a really lovely holiday and crantock is well worth the visit for peace and tranquility!

We really enjoyed our time at Jordan Cottage.

The owners provided us with everything we needed for a comfortable and homely stay. It was ideal for a couple wanting peace and quiet and a nice outlook. Richard gave good advice and guidance on gaining access, parking, local attractions and amenities. Boddinick is a very good location for visiting Fowey, Eden Project, great beaches, historical harbours and other coastal areas with good access to the SW Coastal Paths. The cottage is located half way up a hill so guests should be aware they need to walk up if spending the day in Fowey and using the foot ferry (£2.50/person each way) (Car £6 each way) to cross. Or having a very good meal and few drinks in the Old Ferry Inn at the foot of the hill. It was great to have a designated parking space, but those with low bumpers/poor ground clearance need to take extra care when driving in and out of the steep access to the small car park opposite the cottage. Also be aware there are steps down to the cottage if carrying baggage or those with walking difficulties.

The property and the setting were of a very high standard and the attention to detail in the cottage itself was excellent.

The setting is wonderfully tranquil whilst at the same time providing a great space for an active dog to be able to play safely under supervision. The owners of the property were friendly and approachable and extremely helpful when our car broke down, providing us with a jump start and the contact number for a local garage when we needed further help. The only slight niggle would be that both my husband and I struggled to access both the internet and 4G whilst we were in the cottage, and had to organize ourselves to use this when we were out and about because the area where the cottage is has intermittent internet access and links with Vodaphone rather than other mobile networks. I think this is important for would-be visitors to know in case they need to access these resources for their work or business whilst away. However, this would not deter us from staying here again in the future. Superb accommodation, setting, and support from owners.
