What our customers say about their holidays

    • Jake - Verified booking

Internet only available if sitting in kitchen as WiFi is in next door owners property No sign of any recent PAT testing Sockets and light switches probably 40 years old which was slightly worrying.

The lovely Aga shown is not available to cook on Furniture very outdated , uncomfortable couch or single old armchairs to watch tv ( couch does not face tv) not very “romantic” Not a single carpet , all flooring is carpet tiles which is not very comfortable underfoot , especially in the bedroom. 2 mattresses joined together with 2 single duvets does not a double/kingsize bed make , nor does it add to the advertised “romance “ There is no washing machine in the property (Sykes listing says there is) it is in the owners house Towels need replacing , they are hard and rough. “Sky Tv “ is a bit misleading , free to air sky is only channel available . Stunning location with large garden and paddock to use at rear .( Garden not enclosed as gate on drive always open , just an observation ) Could not contact owner to let us in when we arrived as no key there , she was very friendly and helpful when she did arrive. It is worth noting that although the property is dog friendly , Seaton Beach is not , Seaton , Beer , Sidmouth and Lyme Regis all lovely places to visit Perfect location to explore from . We expected better , it was not a bargain price. There seemed to be notices everywhere , telling us not to do this or make sure we do that . If the heater in the bathroom is a potential fire hazard if left on , it should be removed ? This may sound very grumpy but is is not , just hugely disappointed …..

From the original contact with questions on the cottage with Sykes to the contact with the owners for the access, I have nothing but praise for this little gem of a property and the booking process.

The cottage was just as described and had everything you could possibly want and more. It was truly home from home, not the usual 'sterile' holiday let with only the bare basics to survive, there was an abundance of extras, books, DVDs, children's books, games. Plenty of glasses, crockery, children's bowls/plates, chairs outside, picnic bags, blankets etc etc etc. There are two huge bedrooms, with another really good size double and a cute single, (which was nabbed straight away by my grand daughter, with a huge teddy bear that she didn't want to leave behind !) With it being in the middle of the village, yes there was a little noise from the bus stop, but nothing major, but if you want a central position then there will be some traffic noise, but it's not a busy village with through traffic. It is truly a lovely traditional seaside village, with 3 pubs that offer good food, tea room/cafe, cocktail bar, fish and chip shop and a lovely restaurant, which also offers its full menu as a takeaway option if you cannot get booked, add to that the cafes on the beach and you will be well catered for. I would don't hesitate to come again, and hope to revisit in the future Thank you Craft Cottage for a lovely week with my family

We have stayed with your cottages for 9 years unfortunately this cottage was below standard, the first issue being the step down from the pavement was not one step but two very close together and very difficult for my elderly parents.

the cottage was then not described it said for 6 people but this would of been very tight if all adults, as it was certainly not spacious as described. The cottage then was filthy, very dirty under the sofas, the floor was dirty. The cupboards also smelt and I had to wash all crockery prior to use, i know there is no dishwasher but i think by putting one where the kitchen cupboard is would be beneficial, again it said out the patio doors to the garden but no mention of the step. I am afraid I would like to be contacted with a view to have some money back for this holiday as it did really limit us in what we could do. we appreciate older cottage but it was definitely not as described and very dirty. we usually look forward to our holiday cottages but when you have dog hair coming out from under all units, and we found a dummy under the sofa together with food waste, the lighting was also very poor.

Location of the cottage is good.

Garden is enclosed and very pleasant. Kitchen and bathroom supplies provided and appreciated - this could be made clearer on the website. Upstairs was charming and clean though single beds were very uncomfortable - could feel misshapen springs. Sheets were clean but almost threadbare adding to the discomfort. Duvet and covers were good. Downstairs was only clean on the surface. The whole place needs a deep clean. For example, the inside of the cupboards were filthy and this transferred to the bottom of pots and pans. There was a rusty colander which flaked off when we tried to use it! The door handle of the microwave was sticky and there was a foul smell coming from the draws and cupboards. Downstairs bedroom has an overpowering air freshener. When switched off there is a pungent smell of damp. Seating area fine for four people but no more. The cottage could be really lovely if thoroughly cleaned.

For a cottage that will accommodate 4 people, there were only 2 chairs in the garden.

The garden was overgrown and had an upturned wheelbarrow as a back gate which our dog nearly lept over. There was no welcome information left for us which would have been nice. There was an innocuous looking basket on the floor in the sitting room which contained some details about the local area - we didn't notice this until the last evening of our stay. This would have been better served if it were left by the visitor book. It would have been nice to have some history of the cottage i.e. age, original use, old photos etc. This could have been made as a wall hanging or even just some laminated sheets left on the table for occupants to read. The bolt off the bottom half of the stable door was missing which meant we couldn't leave it open for ventilation as the dog would dissappear into the insecure garden. The cottage has potential but the owners need to invest more time & effort into it
