What our customers say about their holidays

    • Lesley - Verified booking

We had a lovely holiday in Beer.

Craft Cottage is in the village itself so it is an easy walk to the local shops, pubs, restaurants and beach. When we looked at the parking in the details before our holiday we thought it might be a bit of a pain having to walk down the road and unlock the gate every time, but it was easy to do and caused no problems. It was out of season, therefore the shops/restaurants were open for shorter hours or less days, but we didn't find this to be a problem. Because it was out of season, it was lovely and quiet. Everyone parks outside Craft cottage to visit the Village Store, which would be more annoying in high season as it would be busier. It is quite noisy outside in the mornings with deliveries to the shop and the school buses reversing into the bus stop. The cottage is very comfortable and had everything we needed. We weren't able to get the gas fire to light while we were there which was a little bit disappointing. There is central heating also which we were thankful for. We have a small dog who isn't able to walk very far. This meant that to reach any level grass for him to use for toileting, we had to go up to the cliff top car park. However, there are lovely views from up on the cliff so although it was a bit of a palaver, it was worth it! We would definitely visit again.

From the original contact with questions on the cottage with Sykes to the contact with the owners for the access, I have nothing but praise for this little gem of a property and the booking process.

The cottage was just as described and had everything you could possibly want and more. It was truly home from home, not the usual 'sterile' holiday let with only the bare basics to survive, there was an abundance of extras, books, DVDs, children's books, games. Plenty of glasses, crockery, children's bowls/plates, chairs outside, picnic bags, blankets etc etc etc. There are two huge bedrooms, with another really good size double and a cute single, (which was nabbed straight away by my grand daughter, with a huge teddy bear that she didn't want to leave behind !) With it being in the middle of the village, yes there was a little noise from the bus stop, but nothing major, but if you want a central position then there will be some traffic noise, but it's not a busy village with through traffic. It is truly a lovely traditional seaside village, with 3 pubs that offer good food, tea room/cafe, cocktail bar, fish and chip shop and a lovely restaurant, which also offers its full menu as a takeaway option if you cannot get booked, add to that the cafes on the beach and you will be well catered for. I would don't hesitate to come again, and hope to revisit in the future Thank you Craft Cottage for a lovely week with my family

We had a great time and thought the cottage was lovely, however there were a couple of things that let it down and I would not rate 4*. 1. The sofas were really small and uncomfortable and most evenings we resorted to lying on the rug. Cosy sofas would transform the sitting area. 2. The tv was small. This is very subjective I know but in the winter nights most people will settle down to a good film on the sofas and we struggled to do this. 3. Bedroom 2 was very small for 2 adults, maybe only suitable for children? The bulkiness of the bed frames did not help. 4. The distance from the car to the property was hard work with all our luggage. 5. It would have been a lovely gesture for Christmas decorations to be provided. I have spoken to friends about this and all have said when they go away for Christmas the house is decorated. We had to bring our own tree etc which was disappointing. 6. I would have given very good for cleanliness but there were a lot of cobwebs in the property. 7. With regard to the view I would personally cut down the large fir tree just to the front of the property.

This is a charming cottage with many interesting artefacts.

It's location in central Beer is excellent. We are early risers and were untroubled by local traffic noises. The cottage is nicely maintained and well equipped although some soft furnishings and decoration, in particular on the ground floor, are looking jaded and in need of refreshing. As a party of 6 adults we found the lack of a toilet on the top floor of the building to be something of a challenge. The availability of a pleasant garden with useful seating was an asset. The 18 month old, with whom we were holidaying, loved the collection of children's books and toys. I recommend the addition of some basic cleaning equipment, a fully functioning vacuum cleaner and modern dustpan and brush, to allow visitor to keep the cottage tidy during their stay.

We were very disappointed with the cleanliness of this cottage.

The fridge smells dreadful and in need of a thorough cleaning. I put a bowl of bicarbonate of soda inside and that made it bearable to open the door. Microwave, kettle and oven were all grubby. The cutlery trays also. Paintwork needs refreshing and skirting boards and radiators very dusty. When I stripped the bed at the end of our stay the mattress cover was grubby and there was a tear in an obviously old mattress, the quilt also had a coffee or tea stain on it. The living room carpet needs a good shampoo. Such a shame as the cottage is in a perfect location at the top of the village opposite the local shop. Also would be very comfortable for a family with lots of toys, games and books for a rainy day.
