What our customers say about their holidays

    • Khadijah - Verified booking

I arrived at the property at 3.

50pm along with my sister and two kids and my friend and was disappointed to find the bungalow had not been cleaned There were dirty towels on the floors the beds was not made and also the kitchen was a state with the stove having been used and left as it’s as and a baking tray used and not washed the sink area where there was dirt accumulated under the drying rack which had dishes drying on there. We ended up wiping down areas just so we could make brews The bathroom sinks were dirty and also the bins in bathroom were full there were labels and hangers in one of the bedroom Hair on the sofas and Clearly someone had stayed here and no cleaner had been in to clean prior to our arrival. This was shocking and also put a downer to the start of our holiday We contacted the number given and a cleaner contacted us (who was lovely ) and started cleaning whilst we were here we had travelled from Preston and the kids and ourselves were hungry and were looking forward to sitting down for a meal but the kitchen was in no state to be used. It was 5.30 ish and the cleaner was still here so it is very much an inconvenience as we were just hanging around waiting.i also received a call just then to say the hot tub needs a clean and asked us if they could come clean it to which I agreed and he also said he needed to use the water which added to the inconvenience and we advised them to clean them so we could use the hot tub the next day. But that time it’s was like 6.30pm and we started our holiday. The house was nice overall if it was clean and everything was ok the. I would have gave full 5 stars but our holiday started not so good. Afterwards we also notice hazard in kitchen the floor was dangerous they need to sort that out they have put rug there but it’s not big enough I have pictures of it too, and Sykes did not contacted me back but after I came back I get the feedback email. The owner away good as he sorted everything out. Sykes please let the owner know next time on time so they can clean the house before next guest.

We did have a lovely stay.

Good location, comfy bed and mostly clean throughout but a few things need attention in the cottage. In the on-suit bathroom the rainfall shower needs secured to the wall, the showerhead won't fit in the bracket properly so you have to hold it throughout your shower. After turning off the shower water constantly leaked with a loud dribbling sound. The toilet seat was loose and within a day of arrival there was a smell of damp which got stronger through the duration of our two week stay. Theres nowhere to do hair and makeup with a plug and mirror. The bins and refuge instructions are not clear or up to date. Even though theres a washer & hot tub there is nowhere to dry anything a rotary dryer in the garden or even a clothes horse would be helpful. There is no iron or ironing board in the cottage, we had to buy these to use. There was no hoover, there was a brush and a dustpan & brush which was great for the hard floor but there was a shaggy rug in the sitting room that we couldn't vacuum for two whole weeks which made us wonder if it ever got vacuumed. The back door out to the garden opens outward onto a small step which is not much bigger than the swing of the door but is over a foot high from the patio, the steps down are behind the open door so you have to close it before you can move. There is no handrail round this high step making it hazardous for the elderly, children or anyone with mobility issues. The hot tub has no lights and could also do with a good deep clean. While we were there two men turned up looking for the owner as they had noticed the car there, my husband had to show his driving licence to prove who he was and we were asked to show our booking confirmation, they then left us a sealed letter for the attention of the owner which obviously we left there. Overall we enjoyed our holiday as we made the best of it but this cottage could be absolutely perfect with just a bit of care.

Lovely comfortable house however a few things certainly not to luxury standard ….

. Most kitchen utensils needed cleaning again, for example egg flip/kitchen turner still had food on it, yuk, as did the whisk and some cutlery!!! Cutlery was grubby, spoon tray was stained but easily cleaned(by ourselves), grill shelf (not tray) greasy & no egg cups and a distinct lack of glasses considering the house sleeps 8. Great idea to have an extra fridge but the handle is snapped so is a pain to open. Old pair of socks (not ours) found in ground floor bedroom drawers and thrown away!! (Rather nasty!!) Nice house but would never return and not to a “luxury” standard, more like posh Hoseasons. Just as a side note whilst the house is very comfortable the ground floor bathroom (size of a cupboard) is at the other end of the house to the ground floor bedroom which is not really a problem but not ideal and probably due to the limitations of conversion of an old farmhouse. It’s a nice standard of living that the house now enjoys with some lovely views. The outside space at the secluded end is very nice. Sykes photos do show the sides of the converted stables/cattle sheds which other people holiday in, they are very close to the front door of this house. If you’re looking for seclusion it’s not for you. Internet wifi when available was good but was not reliable, perhaps just coincidence that it was often not available during poor weather if this is important to you. 3/4G service is good. TV’s are not smart which is rather old technology if you rely on streaming services, possible due to unreliable internet.

Unfortunately, the experience did not meet the advertised standards of luxury, and I would like to bring several issues to your attention.

Firstly, upon arrival, we discovered a mould problem in the downstairs bedroom, which appeared to be caused by damage to the roof (we took photos). The presence of mould is not only a health hazard but also completely unacceptable in any rental property, let alone one marketed as a luxury accommodation. Additionally, the same bedroom had a broken latch on the door. Moreover, the property's description did not mention that it is part of a site with other properties. This lack of disclosure affected our expectations of privacy and exclusivity, which are typically associated with luxury accommodations. I have since noticed that other guests have written reviews stating that it is misleading not to mention this aspect. We also encountered a problem with the snooker table. One of the snooker cues did not have a tip, leaving us with only one functional cue. This diminished our enjoyment of the amenities that were a key factor in our decision to choose this property. Furthermore, the lack of a tumble drier for a property that accommodates 8 people was challenging. Only one large towel and a hand towel per person and no tumble drier (in Wales where it rained most days) meant that we either couldnt wash the towels or had to wait a couple of days for the towels to dry. The same issue for the hot tub towels. This lack appliance or provision of more towels added to our overall dissatisfaction with the stay. The area was lovely for visiting waterfalls and day trips, which we very much enjoyed.

On arrival we found the rubbish bins overflowing and strewn all over the driveway not a great start but put right on day 2 On entry very nice bungalow well set out.

Then the fun began the laminate kitchen floor had lifted in places and bits were breaking off and it became a trip hazard, the oven hasn’t been fixed to the cabinet so when you pull the door open the whole oven follows and the socket behind the microwave doesn’t work. The toilet seat in the main bathroom is broken and moves each time you sit on it and the taps in the bath have been plumbed in backwards hot is cold and cold is hot. Shower head in en suite loose and small head doesn’t stay in place. Last of all the hot tub on removing the lid the smell was awful and the water quite dirty looking we reported it to the caretaker who did manage to get a guy to come from his sick bed to clean it and refill it sadly we think it needs replacing as by day 4 the smell had started to return ( the hot tub guy agreed). Please can they also put in a step from patio doors in bedroom as it’s rather a drop. Lastly pillows and mattress in main bedroom have no protectors on so on removal of bed linen they had stains on them. We did ring the caretaker and point out these things but nothing happened with any maintenance apart from the hot tub. Thank you Luke. We had a nice few days but kept wondering what we would find next taking pictures as we found faults so we weren’t blamed for anything think the owner needs to take a look around.
