What our customers say about their holidays

My sister and I, along with our husbands and 6 various grown-up offspring, decided to liven up Christmas this year and spend the week away together.

We chose Copmanthorpe Hall, which had only recently been refurbished and made available to the public, as it seemed to fit all our criteria: in the countryside (part of a working farm) but close to an interesting city (York) and with lots of spacious and well equipped accommodation. We were all therefore absolutely delighted when we arrived to find that it far exceeded our expectations! The owners, Rob and Chris, were there to meet us and couldn't have been more helpful. The house was beautifully decorated for Christmas with a tree, lights and various other festive touches which immediately made us feel at home and the whole place was as warm as toast with underfloor heating downstairs and oil-fired radiators in every room. On the website the rooms had looked large and indeed they were - all 6 bedrooms, each with their own ensuite, were spacious and tastefully furnished. The kitchen was very well fitted out with all the equipment one needed to cook a Christmas dinner for 10 - including two large ovens, a huge fridge and freezer and a great dining table which comfortably seated us all. The sitting room, with its beautiful old beams and views of the garden, was large and welcoming with generous seating for everyone and an enormous TV screen which made Christmas film watching a real treat! The city of York is less than 5 miles away and Askham Bar Park and Ride (3 miles) proved an easy solution to any potential parking problems. Copmanthorpe Hall has been thoughtfully and tastefully refurbished to a very high standard and we have no hesitation in highly recommending it - and hope to visit again ourselves!

Beautiful home, wonderful sized bedrooms and a great feature that they are all en-suite.

The owners are very friendly. However, the listing does not state you will be sharing a borderline with the owners property, this needs to be highlighted better, I appreciate it stated working farm, by the back gardens are connected by a 4 foot wall so privacy is very lacking. Our issue with the cleanliness was simply the amount of spiders/cobwebs and debris we came across, the so fats in the main lounge had literally bits of rubbish, balloons and glitter down the cracks (in fairness we didn’t notice this till day 5) however when we couldn’t get access to the porch because of a missing key it was highlighted to Rob by my dad about the cobwebs and spiders (again being on a farm there was of course expectations for this but it seemed a lot) Rob said he would bring it up with cleaning team. We also had issue with flies, but by day 3 that was resolved and again we spoke to Chris about this and she provided materials to help eliminate the issue. So my overall view point is this: The house is stunning, well thought out, it has everything you could need, right down to a pizza cutter. The rooms and spaces are wonderful, the beds are comfy there is plenty of storage space for your stay in each room and the grounds are gorgeous. I’m simply putting the 2 not to so favourable points down to the cleaning company as I think they are not being as through as they should be which in turn created the issues mentioned above. Would we go back, absolutely we did have a wonderful week.

Wow what can I say, we had a family holiday, 10 of us at Copmanthorpe Hall for a week.

The house is beautiful inside and out. On 3 sides there are acres of fields and cows. The house backs on to the owners property but you only see that when you are washing up or putting the bins out so totally private but close enough if you have an issue. It is a working farm but we weren't disturbed at all by any work and it didn't smell. The children were absolutely mesmerised watching the hay being baled and wrapped one day and I think they'd like to adopt Buddy and Shadow the farm dogs. Rob and Christine have a wonderful place, just the right mix of features kept mixed with modern convenience. Spacious, pleasantly decorated and everything you need whether you're cooking yourself or not. Only a mile and half to the village with pub, shops etc. 4 miles from York centre and close to Monks Cross and Designer outlet for those wanting to shop. A perfect base for exploring Yorkshire or just relaxing and getting away from it all. Amazing enclosed garden for children to play and a hot tub. Wifi, TV's in every room so easy to get away from each other and have some me time too. Would highly recommend for a family break or group booking, we'll be sure to be back for both when restrictions allow. Thank you so much for a beautiful holiday, just what the doctor ordered feeling totally relaxed!

We enjoyed our stay very much.

The home is very large (we stayed with a group of 8 and had more than enough space and privacy). No surprises about beds or rooms (nobody was sleeping in the sitting room on a flimsy fold-out mattress like some other properties). It is in excellent repair and very comfortable. It was spotlessly clean. The kitchen is very well stocked. The beds were comfortable. The location is great, only 10 minutes to central York. It is located on a farm, but that was charming and in no way problematic (no noise or smell). Only thing that caused any concern was being asked by Sykes to provide payment information over the telephone rather than through the VRBO website. Perhaps that's common in the UK but I'm not used to that in the US and I worried it was a scam. It was indeed totally legitimate and all worked out fine. I would love to stay here again.

There were eleven family members with ages ranging from 9yrs to 79yrs in our group taking a week’s holiday at Copmanthorpe Hall.

We found the accommodation suited all our needs and the kitchen was very well equipped. The tea/coffee and milk on arrival was much appreciated. The bathrooms were equipped with hand soap and a toilet roll. The large garden provided plenty of space for football etc and the outlook over the fields provided a tranquil setting whilst enjoying a glass of wine or two. Although the owner’s property is directly behind the Hall this was not an issue and I am a person who likes their privacy. There is a small portable bbq provided but we took our larger one and found this to be beneficial for the size of group. The location to York was ideal and the children and adults had a day full of fun at the York Maze. The Co-Op in the village was great for those odd items. I had organised a food delivery for the evening of arrival.
