What our customers say about their holidays

    • Alison - Verified booking

This was possibly one of our best holidays ever.

My partner and I have fallen in love with the Yorkshire Dales. The 17th century cottage is right in the heart of the countryside, Bank Newton being a tiny hamlet? and the nearest village being Gargrave. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The cottage itself is beautiful and in keeping with a property of that period. I loved the little garden with the arch and the roses, leading straight onto a field of cows. It was lovely to wake up in the morning, open the windows and hear cows and sheep. The bedroom and the living room were so cosy - impossible not to relax here. The kitchen and the bathroom had everything conceivable that one could need. There is a very good farm shop called Keelan that sold fresh, local produce nearby. We did a lot of walking on this holiday, there was always a sense of space, we rarely bumped into anyone. This part of Yorkshire remains unspoiled. I would thoroughly recommend staying at this cottage. The owner was so thoughtful and concerned that we should enjoy our stay. We are already thinking about whether it would be possible to book the same holiday again this time next year.

We booked last minute and were fortunate to secure 5 nights in October.

The Cottage was wonderful, warm and extremely well equipped. I would imagine that the cottage would be the perfect spot to locate any time of the year. It is a couple of miles from Gargrave in a hamlet called Bank Newton. Catherine lived close and was a great source of knowledge for local walks as well as walks further afield. The cottage is a stone's throw from the Liverpool-Leeds Canal which has pretty walks in both directions. Airedale, Wharfedale, Bolton Abbey, Grassington, Kettlewell, Malham, Settle, Kettlewell, and numerous other Dales Beauty spots (to say nothing of Tearooms) are nearby. The George at Hubberholme is to be recommended, terrific food, local beer and a genial Mine Host. Buckden, stop off at the George for lunch, Scar House, Cray and back down to Buckden is a lovely walk. Back to the Cottage for tea and some of Catherine's super cake...............what's not to like! We had an absolutely fabulous time away at your cottage!

The beds were comfortable and rooms were spacious. The kitchen facilities were great, we particularly appreciated the doggie treats left upon arrival! Sitting out the back was lovely and relaxing, it was great to see the cows. We ate at The Old Swan one night and the food was lovely. The other night we ordered a Chinese takeaway from Skipton which came in good time and again, the food was lovely. The only concern we had was we couldn’t find the hairdryer (it was in the drawer in the dresser in the main bedroom which is quite neatly concealed!) that could just be us being daft, but might be worth putting either on top of the dresser or in the wardrobe as the drawer isn’t easily spotted. The location is amazing, only a short walk into Gargrave. We didn’t want to go home and have said this is our new ‘go to place’ if ever we want a break! Can’t fault our stay, 10/10!

Lovely accommodation in a beautiful village.

The cottage is extremely comfortable and the bed is huge. We slept so well while we were there and were not our normal early risers! The kitchen, whilst being petit and bijou, is well stocked with equipment and cooking was a pleasure unlike in some properties we've stayed in. I would definitely recommend that you take your own provisions as supplies in the local convenience store are very limited and the closest supermarkets are a bit of a trek away (there is a large fridge/freezer in the property). The Lister Arms was a wonderful, cosy dog friendly bolthole for a drink or a meal at the end of the day (it is very popular and booking is advisable if you want to eat there even mid-week) and would recommend the coffee shop in the village for breakfast, lunch or coffee and cake. The farm shop a couple of miles away also does a fab breakfast.

This 2 bed cottage is absolutely delightful and perfect in every way.

Location is superb, view from the cottage garden is lovely with the sheep and the cows. The cottage is cosy, homely and extremely well equipped, the beds are soft and comfy with white crisp quality linens. Bathroom is fabulous and the shower is outstanding, its all so clean and well presented. The kitchens extremely well kitted out with good quality white goods and has every utensil you could wish for. Its a five minute walk to the canal which is great for a flat walk and also the walk to Gargrave's local pub, The Masons Arms is a real bonus. I would highly recommend this cottage, Catherine & William are warm and welcoming and the stunning Dales are on your doorstep 11/10. Top quality holiday cottage.
