Eyam Holiday Cottages
Those who enjoy dark tourism will surely enjoy a stay in one of Snaptrip’s holiday cottages in Eyam: known as the ‘plague village,' with a fascinating back-story and rich history. Sitting within the Derbyshire Dales, within the Peak District National Park, Eyam has been occupied since Ancient Briton times and was long a mining town.
Today, Eyam’s main claim to fame is that of its community isolation during the bubonic plague. When the infection was discovered in the village in 1665, locals agreed to do their bit to protect others and locked down the community to stop spread. The Eyam Museum documents this interesting history as well as how it recovered from its isolation through the manufacture of shoes, silks and other materials. Between browsing the museum and the historical plague sites of interest, visitors can enjoy drinks at the local pub, The Miners Arms, attend events at the village club and stroll some of the local walking routes.
Eyam holiday cottages come in all shapes and sizes. Snaptrip boasts thousands of properties on its site so there’s truly something for everyone. All bookings are protected by our best price guarantee and our customer service team are contactable by phone or email for any support you may need.
