What our customers say about their holidays

We booked the flat literally at the last minute.

But Katie quickly got the flat ready for us and let us know when it was ready. The instructions for accessing the property were clear. But the flat is tucked away. So, if you can’t find the property, it’s at the bottom of Mellbecks at Frank’s Bridge (ask a local). The flat was lovely and warm. The living area comprises of a large and very well-equipped kitchen area, separated from the large and very well-furnished lounge area by a large and very useful kitchen island. The lounge area had a two-person dining table which could seat four people, a large coffee table, a good-sized TV sitting on a sturdy TV unit, and a big, comfortable couch. The toilet/shower room was also a good size with a powerful rainfall shower. The bedroom was a good size too with a built-in wardrobe, bedside cabinets complete with bedside lamps, and dressing table. All of the furniture was of a surprisingly high quality for a rental property. The property was very clean and well-decorated throughout. There is an allocated parking space immediately below the flat, which for us was perfect, as we like to keep an eye on our car. We stayed there for three nights and slept soundly each night. The flat is located approximately a three-minute walk from Market Square and the main road through Kirkby Stephen. We went there because of a classic transport event. The main street was full of vehicles of all shapes and sizes. But because of where the flat is located, we couldn’t hear any noise whatsoever from the main road. Would we stay there again? Absolutely.

The cottage exceeded our expectations and was perfectly sized for us.

Brilliant kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and lounge, nothing more needed... Great communication from the owner and a lovely welcome pack as well. Parking was on street but never a problem and never more than 100 yards from the cottage. It was in a great location for us to explore the Lakes, Dales and Hadrians wall, although these all required a bit of a drive but on lovely roads!! The village itself had way more amenities than we thought with some great walks as well. The L'al Nook pub, about 50 yards away, was our favourite. Great welcome, great beer and wine and nicely quirky. We'd definitely recommend and would definitely go back

The property was spotlessly clean and very comfortable internally and the host was very helpful and accommodating The area is stunning with lots of wonderful walks from the doorstep The downside was there was barely any phone signal and no WiFi as a solo elderly traveller I found this unsettling knowing I couldn't contact anyone in an emergency The property also opens onto a very dark alleyway and although very quiet I feel the motion sensor light would be best replaced with an outside light for safety reasons you had to step out into the dark to activate this I booked for a week but stayed only 4 nights because of these issues

      Nothing really to add.

The accomodation was purfect for what we wanted.to go to parts of the lakes we have not been to in the past.the only downside was noisy neighbours walking past our property say at 6.30 in the morning walking there dogs.it seemed some days the whole street must have walked past.and with the windows being open because of the heat we were continually being woken up by yapping dogs.i know there is nothing that can be done about this it is just anoying when you are on holiday and we thought it looked a nice quiet area when we first arrived.never mind we can always hope for better at the end of sept when our next break arrives.

A little research before arriving proved to be invaluable - we knew where to park, which breakfasts to try (The Mulberry Bush came out on top), which walks to do.

The cottage did what we wanted and needed (hot showers and a comfy bed). Would recommend the Fat Lamb for food but not for their 'nature reserve'. The Engine Shed is also recommended as is the La'l Nook. Plenty of wildlife to look out for including a variety of birds of prey, kingfishers, voles and red squirrels. The circular walks from Kirkby Stephen to Pendragon Castle, Newbiggin On Lune to Smardale, and Sedburgh to Brigflats were all very enjoyable. Thanks to Katie for her help when our arrival was delayed due to Storm Babet - our only disappointment was not seeing a real life Macaw flying about.
