I recently spent the weekend at the cottage with 6 close friends and my husband to celebrate his 60th birthday.

We were all very excited and the cottage was al we expected. However after being told on a couple of occasions that we could not access the property till 3pm imagine our reaction to arriving there at exactly that time and the cleaners still in and working! We had been told earlier approximately 1pm that they had not arrived. This caused us alarm as I know how long it takes to do a deep clean having managed a cleaning company many years ago. We accessed the property as per the contract at 3pm and it was chaos. We couldn’t access common areas as they were will being cleaned. The lady cleaning the kitchen said this was normal as they were always busy at the weekends. I did confirm to her this was not my business and she had a duty to have the property ready. They did not exit the building till 4pm and this caused a problem with our guests. This is not acceptable. The cottage itself was perfect and we had a lovely weekend. The beds were so comfortable and all amenities provided for a luxurious stay. The earlier problem is being addressed with the managing company Sykes.

Just spent a brilliant week at Shepherds Crook.

The cottage is beautifully decorated, airy and light and we loved the little touches like the nightlights and the games cupboard. Having parking included and being across the road from the bus stop made it easy to travel around the area. The location is great for everything in the village and there’s always a bit of a buzz in the street outside. The bedrooms are all doubles and with 3 bathrooms and 4 toilets in total so there are no queues in the morning. The property was well equipped – dishwasher, washer/drier, iron/ironing table, boot drier in the separate boot room, smart TV and smart speaker. Jamie and Cheryl, the owners have clearly given a lot of thought to their guests’ needs and experience and created a very welcoming environment. We had a couple of minor issues but these were dealt with promptly, efficiently and courteously – in fact the communication and customer service from Jamie was always above and beyond. I would thoroughly recommend Shepherds Crook to anyone thinking of a holiday in The Lakes as a family or group of friends

A lovely house, beautifully furnished and presented and very comfortable.

Great sized rooms and plenty of bathrooms and loos and hot water. The downsides were the lack of parking near the house. Although the site said parking for 1 car, I hadn’t appreciated that it was free parking for 1 car within the local car park. This made unloading the car difficult. We were catering for 8 people, so had a lot of food boxes. Also checkout time is extremely early at 9:30am. We felt this was probably a hangover from Covid regulations, but given those regulations no longer apply, and we had checked and the house wasn’t booked for the next day, this seems excessive. We felt the guidance still in the house regarding completely stripping the beds was also excessive, given the bags for putting the bedding in were nowhere to be found and also given the costs of the house, we felt it was a bit much to ask us to strip the beds and be out by 9:30. One other niggle was that the dishwasher was full of dirty crockery and cutlery when we arrived.

The accomodation was in excellent condition, very well furbished & equipt.

My wife & I know the area well & we brought our daughter son in law & four grandchildren to experience the area. One thing I would ask that you make known is the issues over car parking, albeit you state there is a space for three vehicles to park free just up the road on Stock Lane the spaces were always full i guess due to the fact that it was summer. We found that the only other alternative was to use the car parks & the cheapest option for the week was to use the Red Bank Lane car park which is about 100yds along Stock Lane opposite the church. This cost £30 for the week & can be paid for either over the phone which us fully automated & if you hit a snag forget it!! as you can't get any sense out of it. Fortunately my daughter worked out how to pay online but there was no way to explain to the other end about the difficulties experienced. Apart from that it was a enjoyable holiday & I would recomend this accomodation, thank you.

Shepherds Crook is a large, spacious, beautifully decorated and comfortable home.

It’s centrally located in Grasmere for local village facilities, bars and restaurants and ideal for adults wanting to explore the area on foot. There are some superb walks straight from the doorstep. Sadly, Shepherds Crook is not so suitable for families. It is a flat above a shop on the main road through the village. The property is on a sharp bend, there is no footpath to step out onto. There is no parking - all bags, babies, etc need to be carried from the main car park. Parking is £8 per day. Plus, Shepherds Crook is directly opposite ‘The Good Sport’ which is a noisy bar in the summer. Lots of singing, shouting, swearing this week until after midnight which isn’t what you expect in a quiet village like Grasmere. All in all an ideal property for couples who want to walk by day and spend the evening in The Good Sport.
