What our customers say about their holidays

    • Caroline - Verified booking

Very comfortable well equipped property, with fabulous views.

The kitchen had great equipment for cooking, the only thing missing was some mugs to drink from. Perhaps I drink a cup of tea quicker than some people - but for me a cup is not big enough :-) We heard strange noises a couple of nights and thought someone was upstairs, but after reading the guest book we saw that someone else had worked out it was the chairs on the uneven balcony surface rocking back and forth in the wind! It honestly sounded like someone was bouncing a ball on the ceiling. It didn't keep me awake but I did wonder what it was until I read the guest book. Might be worth putting something under the chair legs to even them out, or at least warn people of this in the notes so they can move the chairs at night if it bothers them (only happens when it is windy). Some of the instructions in the folder seemed out of date - there was reference to a separate parking area which I can only imagine used to be where the next door property now sits - the description just didn't make sense - we spent quite a lot of time looking for this as we had 2 cars and the turning area in front of the property is very tight. Leaving instructions were also a bit confusing - the folder info said a padded envelope would be provided and to put this in a letterbox by the gate, but I couldn't see where that was, and the email instructions seemed to indicate the key should go back where we got it from (in the key safe), so I just did that. The hot tub was brilliant and we used it a lot - my only comment there is that it would have been nice to have a robe for everyone in the property, rather than just 4 - it is supposed to sleep 7 and we were 6 adults so all using the hot tub, and in March the robes were much appreciated for those who had them! All in all, this is a lovely property in a great location, and we would return. My comments are just small points for improvement to make it even better.

I thought the apartment was set in a stunning location and beautiful views.

It is an extremely large apartment with very generous rooms, decorated to a high quality. It was booked for my 50th so was really looking forward to it by the look of the pictures, however if you are going to charge the prices ( not cheap are worth it for the apartment but needs a few improvements ) you do there are some things you really need to look at. When you are charging the price that you are asking per week I would personally expect higher standards as regards to maintenance and up keep. Curtains - had to be closed with my daughters claw grip as did not meet. Threshold to utility cupboard - needs to be attached tripped over it when using the dryer. Drawers - in main bedroom the books with that vase on top are just cleaned around as I needed to move these it has stained the top. Lampshade - at the side of the bed has been propped on instead of replaced as was broken. Sofa - behind the sofa cushions need to be hoovered as rubbish and dust and crumbs. Front door - cobwebs above the front door. Dryer - did not dry the clothes left clothes in all night still wet the next day ( Own a condenser so know how they work) Patio - remove weeds and dead plants in pots, paint wooden furniture as could do with a freshen it up was tatty looking, also seat pads for rattan furniture could do with a wash as all stained. Its the little details that make all the difference, say that it was up for sale at £600k but again the little details reflect the price. Your cleaners have up to 6hrs between guests I would expect a higher standard of cleanliness

"We had a wonderful time at Carbis Bay, The house was truly amazing, everything we expected and more.

The hot tub was definitely a bonus, we all enjoyed it. Fernhill Lodge was lovely and clean, very light and airy, and very well equipped, the views from the balcony were stunning. We enjoyed breakfast on the patio every morning , listening to the birds singing and taking in the lovely views across Carbis Bay. We found a lovely little pub the Cornish Arms about 10min walk from house, the food was tasty and very good value, the owners were very pleasant made us all welcome. we would recommended it highly. The local Tesco up the road was very handy for any essentials we needed. We enjoyed the lovely walk down to Carbis beach, and had a nice coffee and ice cream at the beach cafe with views to die for. The train ride into St Ives was lovely, very relaxing and again stunning views , only 4 mins journey for £1.00. In St Ives we can recommend the Alba Restaurant for something a little bit special, and the Life boat pub/restaurant for lovely food at reasonable prices. I must mention the Taxis services we used on a couple of occasions, Ace Cars in st Ives very reasonably priced, friendly. and prompt. Overall we had a wonderful holiday, and we will definitely consider staying at Fernhill Lodge again "Pure Luxury"." K. Claire

"We had a really fantastic holiday in Waves.

The apartment was everything we expected, and then some, and the views were simply outstanding! The apartment was spotless when we arrived, very well equipped and it had absolutely everything we could possibly have wanted for our holiday. The train into St Ives and St Erth is a must and it is so convenient not having to struggle to find parking. I am sure we did the same things as many of your other guests, trips to St Mawes, Mevagissey, Portreath, Porthcurno etc etc. The Eden project was stunning and we especially liked the Mini golf at Porthminster . Restaurant-wise we tried the Porthminster Beach Café, Waves (how appropriate) and The Seafood Café, all which we thoroughly enjoyed. Beck's fish and chips are also a must (if only they opened on a Monday!). We enjoyed ourselves so much at Waves we asked to extend our stay by four days and this was dealt with very swiftly by your team and we were delighted to be able to stay on. Our whole experience has been a joy, we hope to come and stay at Waves again later on this year." J. Jackson

"We were VERY impressed with our holiday in Fernhill Lodge.

The location is out of this world, the standard of cleanliness was wonderful, it was spotless. The house was spacious. luxurious, and had every conceivable requirement covered. All in all, we had one of our best holidays ever. We visit Cornwall a lot, and my favourite places to visit are Fowey, Padstow, Mousehole, Mevagissy, and of course, St Ives. I love the light and the way that its completely different to anywhere else we visit. The shops/galleries and eateries are great...we bought several things from 'beatengreen' this visit. A new shop/workshop thats been opened. Welcome addition, its 'shabby chic' furniture is funky and fab. As always we ate at Porthminster cafe a couple of times. The quality of the food/views to die for combination wins me over every time. We also enjoyed a lovely carvery Sunday Lunch at The Lifeboat Inn, a pub in the harbour, where the bar staff and waiting staff were really friendly and full of local knowledge." S. & K. Beasley
