What our customers say about their holidays

    • Patricia - Verified booking

Lowenna is lovely and bright and clean, and exactly as it looks in the interior pictures.

We only had a couple of recommendations for Eric and Vicky - our towels were a little bit small! Perhaps less cream teas for us ?! and we ran out of matches for the fire, so maybe a lighter could be better? Otherwise this is a lovely property in a stunning place. My criticism is with Sykes and not the owners of the property. Only on the reviews and by looking closely at the listing on line for Lowenna could I see that it is in the grounds of Stoneycroft, the owners house, and as lovely as they are, we did not expect that from a description of 'detached.' Apologies if I have misinterpreted. The pictures do not show the owners house which is right behind where the tree and clothes dryer are, just for anyone wanting to book a completely secluded house. Having said that we hardly knew they were there and they always gave a friendly wave and hello, so I must state again that Sykes are at fault here. The owners have also stated once you are inside the property by a notice in the utility area that it is only a 'Dogs Allowed', not a 'Dog Friendly' house, unlike the description on the Sykes booking. The reason they gave for this was that the neighbours keep chickens and that there may be other dogs around, which is good communication from the owners, but again I wanted to be informed about this by Sykes, before booking, but as Sykes ignored all my emails I was not given the opportunity to check. I made several attempts to communicate with Sykes starting in March 2024, long before we arrived at Lowenna, (we only wanted to pay the rest of the booking fee and make double sure that the dogs were safe as one is slightly reactive etc.. ) by email and then in desperation by facebook messenger, all of which were completely ignored UNTIL my second deposit came out in August. I find this appalling, and once again not the fault of the property owners. I'm genuinely sorry if this affects the score for Lowenna - it is a reflection of my treatment by Sykes cottages and NOT the property owners.

First impressions were good but a couple of things were soon discovered.

The description to find the property was poor. The property LOOKOUT actually is the entire complex and we stayed at number 6,however to find the entrance was far from easy ,the road name would help find it and also its on a one way street which you first find as a No entry ,so have to drive all the way round..Lots of steps to negotiate and carry luggage down, definitely not for the unfit.48 steps down to the road to get onto the high street.Once the property has been entered comes the garage bit, 4 floors, not easy to park, especially if you have a medium to large vehicle. The bays were for 2 vehicles, luckily no-one parked next to us all week,if the park was full it would be a nightmare to try to get in and out as it is very tight and requires alot of manoeuvres. The property is nice and light with good views across the estuary when stood up.The bathroom is a big letdown, the bath is marked and it would benefit a walk in shower instead. The overhead shower is nothing but a trickle with a hard plastic curtain. The majorly of the basin is taken up by the mixer taps and is near impossible to wash your face without putting water everywhere. The slow close toilet lid lives up to its name ,we were there a week and it still hadn't closed when we left! The patio is strange it's on the front with a table and 2 chairs ,however when sat down all you see is a white wall with no view whatsoever. All in all we made the best of the property, would we use it again, the jury is out.

      The location is great.

Located at the top end of the high street in Falmouth, all of the shops and restaurants are no more than a 15 minute walk away. Very conveniently, one of Falmouth's two piers, is only a 2-3 minute walk down the high street, offering boat trips to St Mawes and river cruises. The apartment is excellent. The huge open plan living room and dining area is a fantastic space and the view out of the windows down to Falmouth harbour, is picturesque. The fully equipped kitchen also has a great view of the harbour. The bedrooms, whilst on the cosy side are decorated nicely, have very comfortable beds and plenty of space to store clothes, in both drawers and cupboards, where lots of wooden hangers are provided. Private parking is a bonus and removes the stress off trying to find parking spaces especially in high season. My only reason for awarding this accommodation a 4 out of 5 instead of a perfect 5 is the bathroom. Whilst it is adequate, I would suggest that the shower could do with an upgrade and the shower curtain could be replaced with a glass screen. The standard of cleanliness across the whole property was very high. The booking manager Sue was very helpful with any questions that I had both before arrival and during. Would definitely return to this accommodation if staying in Falmouth again.

The whole experience was really brilliant in all aspects.

It couldn't have been any closer to all the facilities you could wish for eateries too many to mention & close to the pier where many of the boat trips went from and the Tourist information centre was there and you could book through them or at the many kiosks dotted around. The best part if you wanted to go around the large busy streets you had a shuttle bus that you could use. We used it for free as our concessionary bus passes in our town allowed free travel anywhere but it was only £2 hop off and hop on for other younger adults. Bargain. We even had free travel to Truro from Falmouth with the passes, provided you travelled after 9.30 each day. Most of the buses could be caught at Falmouth to any parts of Cornwall free uses these bus passes. For us it was wonderful. Central to two train stations(town & docks) in the town you were spoilt for choice. We chose to leave the car parked in the accommodation all week as it was in a safe underground car park for the apartment and allowed us to leisurely explore without having to drive everywhere.

For a start the holiday cottages were well sign posted!

Cottage was spotelsless and some biscuits for our dog and cake tea coffee etc was a nice touch on arrival. Everything you need was there. Although the air conditioning took a bit of working out it was a great addition and would cool or heat the cottage up very quickly. There was a walking area for my dog and lots of thought has gone into this site including outside showers for humand and dogs!!!!! Maintenance guys were very friendly and helpful. The swimming pool saunas and hot tubs are a genuis addition which is why we chose these cottages. Nice and warm too ! Again very well maintained and very clean. Ample parking even if you cant park outside your own accommodation and literally only a minute away. Struggled to find any negatives too be honest. The saunas etc are open at 8.30am to 6pm and if they could open a little bit earlier and a little bit later that would be really useful but thats just based on us. Would definitely stay again and looking to bring the family back later in the year.
