With a few little touches this property could be perfect, however we wouldn't recommend or stay again without some changes.
There are however lots of positives. The location is perfect and we had no issue parking outside of the property each day. The facilities are good, and it is super dog friendly with everything from stair gates, dog bed, treats and toys provided. The bathroom is beautiful and garden is large. The front door lock needs addressing. You need two hands to be able to open it due to it sticking which is not ideal for anyone with a disability. It's only a small thing but it became more frustrating as the week went on. When we booked the photos showed a free standing fridge freezer. Prior to our arrival we received a text to say this had been updated to an under counter fridge with ice box and wine cooler. The under counter fridge was comparable to a camping fridge size wise not even filling the available gap. We took meals for 3 evenings for 2 people and it was full. Had we been sharing the cottage with another couple, had children with us, or simply wanted to bring more supplies with us we wouldn't have been able to manage. Also because we had to effectively overfill it items in the fridge actually froze. We slept in the bedroom with the 2 single beds pushed together. The mattresses were comfortable however they are not zip linked (or at least were not zipped up) which meant after a couple of days there was a reasonable gap between the two. The mattress in the other room is such poor quality there is no way we could have slept on it. Had it been the only bed available or had another couple been staying with us it was so bad we wouldn't have been able to stay the week. This needs replacing. The bins were full on arrival which was frustrating, but understandable as the instructions were poor. The wrong date was given for one bin in the welcome book, and it was not clear where to go to take bins around the back. The electrics tripped about 5 to 6 times on one day. We couldn't find any explanation as to why as we only had the TV on. It sounds like a lot of complaints for what is overall a very nice property. With a few small changes it really could be perfect.

Very good property, very well equipped, we have stayed in many holiday cottages throughout the UK and we have never stayed in one that has everything we need for a weeks holiday.
The welcome pack was handy, but I was slightly disappointed to see it was filled with supermarket products, rather than local produce and I wonder if its necessary when it's a two minute walk to the town centre. We stayed in autumn and the cottage is very cosy and warm, the wood burner isn't required, there are enough radiators to keep the house toasty warm, very impressive considering the age of the house. The huge back garden is dog safe and well presented, lots of fresh apples when we were there too. This house is a terraced property, with attached neighbours on both sides, we expected some noise, but we not aware anyone was living there, except for Thursday when they put the bins out. The only drawback to the property is the location on the main road, parking near the house can be difficult, we could only park near the cottage if we arrived back after four in the afternoon, I would imagine this will be worse in peak season. The only free parking in Helmsley is on the road side along Bondgate, so the locals who work in the town park here. Also the road noise is quite intrusive, but you don't notice it after the first couple of nights. Overall this is probably one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in and we will without doubt be returning soon. It's a new listing and after meeting the owners I get the feeling it will be kept at this high standard, they had just replaced the mattress' in both bedrooms when we arrived and their attention to detail is quite impressive. If you come to the North York moors for the first time, this is the perfect base, all the major tourist destinations are accessible from here without too much driving and the town has excellent cafes, pubs and restaurants.

Sykes Staff have been nothing but friendly and accommodating, they were not to fault for our unsatisfactory stay.
The property however had dust webs left in corners (despite cleaners) and offered no QR code/Covid guidelines, no antibacterial hand wash or sanitiser (good job we took our own). We were greeted by a wasps nest by the front door obviously using the propertyâs roof. The door with its large double glass windows offered no privacy from passers by using the shared drive and communal laundry room given the fact the shower and toilet were right behind it which resulted in us having to hang a towel over the door. The pictures of the garden were misleading. It clearly shows a grass area which had been cordoned off and belonged to another property which only left the stoned area you see in the pictures which would have been fantastic if it werenât for the fact they are not friendly to the paws of our fury friends which meant our pet friendly get away wasnât in fact so pet friendly at all and his off lead play time went out the window. The directions to the property are not clear, even using âwhat four wordsâ we had difficulty. In the end we were forced to contact Sykes which then had to contact the owners who added another couple of steps to the directions. Frankly if it werenât for the fact we had to rely on a family member for travel and our signal was so spotty we never would have stayed.

29 bondgate is a delightful cosy, well presented cottage.
The moment we arrived we,felt at ease and relaxed ,"A home from home." On arrival we found the owner had left some basic grocerys which were very much welcomed after our journey. We especially liked the nice little touches like cassis room spray and molton brown rhubarb and rose hand wash in the bathroom which was lovely. Another nice touch was the thought and effort Given to 4 legged freinds , Florence our dog who loved the basket full of teddys ,her plump bed and dog treats would like to say a big Thankyou. As garden lovers we adored the back garden as did our dog Florence, safe and enclosed and lots of interesting hidden corners . we were amazed on the depth it gave to the property, we would love to return in early summer to see it . If you are planning a visit to Helmsley or the yorkmoors then we would fully recommend 29 bongate. Andy, anita and Florence. X

Lovely comfortable cosy cottage surrounded by beautiful countryside.
They have also planted the garden area with wildlife friendly plants. Great place to relax and unwind away from the hustle and bustle. We enjoyed spotting the hares in the fields on the drive up to the farm, watching the free range hens wandering around & bird spotting from the French doors in the kitchen. Sarah and husband were very welcoming and all communications we had were answered quickly. There is a lot to see in this area we particularly enjoyed Nunnington hall & Sutton bank visitor centre. Had a fabulous Sunday lunch at The Plough Inn Wombleton. Unfortunately didnât sample many other restaurants in the area as we couldnât get a table. So we would pre book a little more next time we come up this way. Overall a lovely holiday.
