What our customers say about their holidays

    • Bronia - Verified booking

Beautiful location, in the country and not far from the main towns.

Cottage is very clean and has a wonderful little wood next door for doggy walks. The accommodation is set around a courtyard shared with other holiday rentals so it doesn’t have its own enclosed garden. The building is finished to a high standard with a beautiful fitted kitchen and new furniture throughout but despite this, the appliances are fairly basic and there is no dishwasher. We suggest replacing the iron, pans, baking trays, and wok as they have all seen better days. It was great having two very nice en-suite shower rooms but beds were a big disappointment. Hard mattresses, rock solid pillows and duvets which are barely wide enough for two people. I see from other reviews that this issue has been raised before so it definitely needs attention. A good quality mattress topper, fluffier pillows and a better duvet would make the sleeping arrangements much more comfortable. And it would be great to have a Smart TV in the lounge instead of just Freeview. Other little touches which would make a big difference include a welcome tray with some complimentary items like tea/coffee/toiletries, etc, some milk in the fridge and the house being warm on arrival. With these improvements it really would be a luxury cottage. The location is very convenient for exploring the South Lake District and all in all we had a great holiday.

Beautiful cottage in a great location with restaurants and pubs in easy reach after a hard days walking.

The cottage is very well equipped with all the tools necessary for comfort and cooking if you need to. There is a drying cabinet for wet clothes and boots which came in very handy after we experienced some very wet days and marshy ground on the days out walking. The dogs had all the comfort of home, we took their own bed and lots of throws for the furniture and they settled in very well. Beware that there are sheep nearby in the field which is fenced off and the 10 acre grounds are pretty and wild with lots of nettles that caused some feet irritation so take piriton for the dog/s for the walk in the gardens. All in all a lovely experience, we were left to do our own thing by the host and we had a lovely time. We would not hesitate to return and recommend the location highly for anyone seeking a holiday in a stunning location.

Lovely bright, airy cottage for a home from home stay.

Great location for exploring the Lake District. The kitchen has everything you need, beds and pillows comfy, great pressure in the showers and nice big towels. Drying cupboard is a great bonus so you don't have to think about your boots and coats being damp for the next day! Outside table and chairs and umbrella if you get the weather for alfresco dining (luckily, we did) Sofas comfy but did tend to slip off when relaxing!! The gardens are lovely for a stroll and very picturesque, a great grass area for playing games if you have the energy after exploring the area! If we were to be very picky we would say the addition of a couple of board games would be a bonus. We are hoping to return to the area again and would have no hesitation on staying here again, thank you.

We had a great long weekend stay here.

The owner was very helpful and friendly. The cottage is in a very quiet spot but still close enough to everything you need. We would agree with other reviews that the chairs in the lounge area are very uncomfortable and the cottage was very small - some of the photos were taken from a very generous angle. This means that we probably wouldn't book a longer stay in this particular cottage but we would definitely try one of the others on the same site. It was very dog friendly with an enclosed yard and a dog exercise area nearby. We also definitely recommend the Anglers Arms in Haverthwaite which was also very dog friendly and served excellent food. If like us you just need a small place to stay for a weekend this is perfect.

Skiddaw, as part of a 4 unit holiday accommodation is one of the best of the many cottages we have stayed in across the UK.

Spotlessly clean, very spacious, comfortable, quality fittings and fully equipped, this cottage takes fabulous advantage of lovely views with it's "upside down" accommodation. The eco friendly credentials are are impressive and the massive grounds for Jen, our dog, to wander, were icing on the cake. Add to this a quiet but great location for the north and western Lakes, we can unreservedly recommend Southwaite Green holiday accommodation. The only improvement would be if there was an information folder, particularly for recycling/waste, explanation of the functioning of the heating and suggestions for walks, activities etc. We enjoyed an excellent week's holiday in Skiddaw, thank you very much.
