We had a wonderful time (again) in this delightful cottage.
We were really rather surprised by the negativity of some of the visitor book comments; we were tempted to add our own satirical observations on the observations ("devastated that there was no le Creuset cookware;" "appalled by the lack of port decanter") to highlight how off-the-wall some of those entries seemed to us. A couple of ludicrously minor suggestions: It would be useful to have a hook for a bathrobe on the back of the 1st floor bathroom door; The kitchen was splendidly equipped (made the mental shift from induction back to gas without too much trauma), and the knives were far of better quality than the usual 'holiday let' - but maybe a knife sharpener of some sort? (I always bring my own knives anyway, holday cottages usually offer blunt iron bars with handles). And a really seriously, humungously stupid one - the place mats: they're a bit big, and smaller ones would make it easier to set the table and protect the middle from hot serving dishes. Mind, that gets close to complaining that 'the candelabra was only silver plate.' When those are the only critical observations to be made, neither you nor the owner should be over-anxious. It's a lovely, cosy place to stay; we hope to re-book shortly for next October. The move to Sat-Sat booking isn't perfect for folk who work Sundays like we do, but we are definitely in a minority. And a last word, about the stairs - our party is 77, 71, 67 and 58, and it wasn't an issue for us, save that one reflected whether there was anything else to be done up there when one had completed the ascent to the top floor! It's abundantly clear in the info that the stairs might be challenging for the less mobile. Thank you, all. A much needed break which couldn't have been better - and so handy for what we have dubbed 'The Gin Terrace' just up from the Mary Anning statue. Feel free to publish the feedback, but it may need redacting!

Do not book this property.
A previous review described this property as filthy with an overgrown garden and a second floor with two bedrooms said to be unusable for safety reasons. When contacted by telephone and e mail before our booking âSykes Cottagesâ assured me that the issues had been addressed and dealt with. On entering the property there was an overwhelming musty smell. We had to clear away the many cobwebs and clean all surfaces as soon as we entered. The oven was too disgustingly filthy to ever use, as was the tiny filter coffee maker. Of the many mugs only two were usable as the rest were disgustingly worn away. The bath mat in the En Suite bathroom was dreadful, full of stains and falling apart. The towels were tiny and very thin and worn. The one tea towel provided had two large holes in it. Most of the blinds in the property were broken. The television was described as a Smart TV, it was not. There were no covers on the Conservatory cushions so they were stained and horrible. The two sun loungers had no cushions. We only needed the first floor bedrooms but we investigated those on the second floor. The stairs to them were so unsafe our dog would not use them and we found them very scary to navigate. It was impossible to stand in the two bedrooms at the top of the stairs. We were warned that if we left any rubbish in the bin on the property rather than in the bin on the nearby street, we would be charged for removal by the gardener, but only 1 bin bag was provided for the week. The garden and paths to it were so overgrown it was clear that no gardener had been on the property for a very long time. We were told that we had to strip the beds before leaving or would again be charged. We have stayed in many, many rental properties and been provided with a wide range of welcome packs. At âHeselwoodâ we werenât even provided with a tea bag, only 2 dishwasher tablets. This property could be amazing.

The house is exactly as shown with easy parking and a lovely garden which is a sun trap.
The bedrooms were large and facilities all in good working order. We loved the eco washing machine & the blackout blinds were really useful. It would have been nice to have an outside washing line or pegs to hold clothes onto the airer so we could pop it outside rather than having to put on the heating to dry clothes, although having 2 thermostats meant we could heat only where needed. The huge TV was great but the sofas weren't very comfy. Appreciate this is personal preference but the leather is slippery and as vegetarians, we didn't find it very nice. The biggest issue was the lack of cloths to clean with (the one provided we used for dishes so couldn't use it for household cleaning). It was unfortunate the one bottle of toilet cleaner turned out to be empty. Also the dishwasher tablets were terrible and left a white residue on all the pots which we had to rewash by hand every time. We fully endorse the eco lifestyle but the extra water consumption of rewashing probably makes these tablets not worthwhile. We also struggled to cook / reheat food in the microwave due to the lack of suitable plastic ware and lidded containers to keep leftovers stored. I should end by saying how much we enjoyed our stay and this is a great base for exploring the area. The local walks were too challenging for us but I recommend the walk to Uplyme from the end of the road (then along the river path into Lyme Regis). We really missed all the usual information leaflets provided in such properties especially as my mum doesn't access the internet, but understand why these were removed.

We stayed in Rona cottage in 2020 and we were really looking forward to staying there again in 2023.
However when we arrived in August 2023 we were shocked at the state of Rona cottage. We were met with bird poo all over the windows which looked like it had been there for some time. The front door was in poor condition and the lock needed attention. The cottage was not very clean. There was black mould in the downstairs shower room and every bedroom stank of perspiration and was musty. Some if the cups were unclean and there was soot constantly falling down from an unswept chimney. The fridge was in a poor state of repair and was constantly iced up with water dripping on our food. The bedding and quilts were not fresh and the stair carpet dirty and full of fluff and fog hair. In the lounge the sofa smelled badly and there was a leather chair that had seen better days. Recommend a deep clean of this property some serious maintenance work and replacement fridge. It would also be better for clients if the washer machine worked and the washing line was lowered so you could peg out washing. We were really disappointed with the poor state of this cottage and would not recommend this property

Weekend away with the family celebrating mumâs 75th Birthday.
7 adults, 3 children. The cottage was in a great location. The surrounding grounds and garden were lovely. A great view from the rear garden. Inside, the kitchen had all you could want to cook for large groups. Dishwasher was a lifesaver. The front living area was substantial and comfortable. Bedrooms on the first floor were large and comfortable with a double bed and a single bed in each of them. Up to the 2nd floor were 2 very small cupboard type rooms. These werenât great. Be careful navigating the stairs up to these rooms particularly children or elderly. Saying that, it didnât detract from our enjoyment. The hosts were available via text message and got back to me quickly with information. They were nice and allowed us in slightly early to decorate with balloons and banners. Unfortunately one of our children fell ill on our last night and the hosts were very kind in allowing us to check out late as our train home was mid afternoon that day. Iâm very grateful to them. On the whole, we loved cottage and its space. We would go back.
