The Cottage is in a very good location and makes it so easy for all shops, restaurants etc.
Due to its central location and it can be noisy, although we were there at Easter bank holiday weekend. This may have influenced it but noise went on till 4am. The main issue I had with the Cottage, is that it is very small. We went as a family of two adults, two kids and a dog. The house was not big enough to accommodate us all. This was particularly evident downstairs, which is just one room. There wasnât enough seating space for us all to sit on the settee. There is a breakfast bar in this room but the stools provided, are not very comfortable. There isnât really enough space to cook, particularly if people are sat at the breakfast bar. When cooking I literally had to sit at one of the seats. The whole accommodation is extremely dark. Whilst accepting that it is a Cottage, the windows do not open in three out of four of the rooms. This makes the Cottage quite stuffy and oppressive. This is not helped by the fact you donât have control of the heating. This comes on at set times whether you need it to or not. The bedroom on the first floor is a decent size and accommodates two children. It also has storage space and a TV with DVD. There is no DVD player downstairs, nor can you stream your phone to the TV. This meant if we wanted to watch a film as a family, we had to go to the kids bedroom. The bathroom has nice facilities with the exception of the hot tap. It is a Triton hot tap that produces very little hot water. The bedroom on the second floor is contained in the roof. It does not have any room to stand up in, other than the foot of the bed. Itâs basically a bed in a room. We both found it quite difficult to get in and out of bed. The Cottage does provide safe secure parking, which is needed in Whitby. However, as described in the advert this is 5 mins away up a steep hill. Overall if there was just two of you, you could make it work. It didnât work for us as a family. Having stayed in multiple Cottages in Whitby, this was the most disappointing. Due to the issues we left a day early.

This is constructive feedback only for the property owner: It doesn't work to have a thermostat above a storage heater!
We had to turn the thermostat up to about 25 degrees to make the central heating come on It would be a good idea to have an extractor fan in the bathroom as it's getting damp in there It would have been useful to know that there is no signal to be able to phone or text Please leave guidance about the bins, as to when you put them out! I have just had a farcical dance with them this morning, not realising that your green and black bins are both collected weekly, and Sue didn't make it very clear, so I am afraid I didn't get the recycling out and only just made the black bin emptying Feedback that can be published: We had a comfy week in possibly the most peaceful place we have ever stayed. We loved the open fire and got used to there being no TV quickly, enjoying the quiet. There were plentiful puzzles, games and books to amuse. It was very handy to have the CB Inn a 5 minute stroll down the road and they were welcoming to dogs in the bar area. We enjoyed just a drink and also a roast dinner. Reeth is a nice little town with dog friendly pubs. Richmond or Barnard Castle seem to be the nearest places to fill up with petrol, so beware of getting too low on fuel!

We have very mixed feelings about Aros.
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in a magnificent, peaceful location surrounded by sheep, rabbits, lapwings, birds galore and wonderful flora. Walks abound in the area, straight from the door plus a very welcoming inn, The C B 5 minutes walk away serving superb food. We appreciate the cottage was built some years ago and requires a lot of maintenance but it could do with some tlc eg new bathroom with extractor fan as it is damp, decorating throughout as wallpaper is peeling. I am always suspicious of cottages that contain air freshenersâ¦â¦.why does it need one? Possibly to conceal the damp smell or visiting dogs? We knew before booking that dogs were allowed but their presence was obvious by the fur on floors and kitchen cupboard doors. I tried to clean this up but unfortunately the Vax cleaner was useless. Sadly we did not find the sofa comfortable and the armchairs were too low. The kitchen appears to be fairly new and is extremely well equipped. There is an impressive selection of maps, books, games and jigsaws to while away any spare time if needed and the WiFi was welcomed for accessing weather forecasts in the absence of a tv. We did not miss the tv at all.

The cottages were set in a pretty open courtyard, which was not very good for us as we had a puppy and the listing said it had a patio with furniture but it didnât.
We had no welcome pack, books, dvds which were also listed. We had 2 quite major problems which were put right by the very nice maintenance man. However the overall cleanliness of the cottage was extremely poor. Food on dirty greasy baking trays in the oven, dead flies on the kitchen blind, the expel air in the bathroom was full with dust and dirt. The cottage needs a thorough updating to the standards we have been used to from using Sykes for the last 6 years. Especially kitchen equipment, leaking kettle, burnt out toaster and the microwave was burnt on the grill part and this kept dropping onto the glass turntable. Little things like door handles and toilet roll holders were put on the wrong way, carpet also coming up. All reported to reception when we left and they did say the cleaning company would be contacted. The staff we had dealings with were very helpful and polite.

I wasn't sure what to expect but I arrived and the property was unlocked (as described it would be) with the key inside.
In the kitchen we were greeted with a wonderful tray of treats - posh coffee bags, biscuits, home made jam etc. AND even a few doggie treats for our 4 legged visitors. There was a water bowl and towel for the dog too. A good selection of kitchen equipment means you can just bring ingredients. If TV is important to you, please note that the signal is weather dependant but there are some DVDs and Books (or just bring your own). TV isn't an issue for me but did enjoy a couple of DVDs. Wonderful scenery and sunrises (when not raining - but it is Winter) and have walked all over the area. Saw a few deer and lots of pheasants. Easy heating settings - which actually work (unlike hotels) helped me stay warm enough upstairs but cooler in the bedroom. Disappointed they are so booked up I am having to wait longer to re-visit (ha ha) but it will be worth the wait.
