What our customers say about their holidays

    • Dorcas - Verified booking

This is a beautiful small cottage situated in a glorious setting with partial views out to sea across to Robin Hoods Bay from the kitchen and lovely moorland views from the main living area.

The cottage is well fitted out and provides opportunity for eating in if you don’t want to drive. There are wonderful walks from your door step and opportunities for exploring this beautiful area of North Yorkshire. The owners are very responsive to issues as and when they occur and communication was easy. It is worth noting that the cottage is isolated and the long drive from the main road is single lane with the last 900 metres being an extremely narrow bridle way with very few opportunities for passing. In wet weather the side verges are extremely soft making pulling off the road not an good option. Unless you are confident in rural reversing on a restricted road then this cottage may give you a problem especially in the busier summer months when there will be more visitors. If it wasn’t for the access to the property I would rec this without hesitation to anyone who loves the idea of rural isolation in comfort.

Sykes are aware of our dispute with Cottage Anton.

We left on Thursday because the host was unable to address our problems. We were offered a refund if we left early but so far we have only received a partial refund. During our state, we had no hot water which made it very uncomfortable when we showered. In addition, the towel rail in the bathroom was not working. The bedding was awful with the pillows being thin and very lumpy meaning that my wife ended up with numb ears. The duvet wasn’t big enough for the bed. The underfloor heating was lovely and the property itself is absolutely beautiful. The problem was the plumbing. I believe the host did try to engage your plumber but was unsuccessful. It’s horrible when you’re in a property surrounded by snow and you cannot have a lovely hot shower and then dry with lovely warm towels. Sykes are aware of our dispute and we expect them to get the matter resolved.

Loved our stay in Ravenscar, what a beautiful place. The cottage was lovely, home from home. It had everything you could need, the kitchen had everything you would need to make a meal. The information left for everything was brilliant and all details on the accommodation, area, places to eat and walks was so useful. The log burner was lovely on a cold evening. The beds were super comfortable, I would love to know where the mattress is from in the main bedroom as we're just going to buy a new one. We had lovely walks to Robin Hood's Bay, the radar station, and to see the seals. Situated well to visit Robin Hood's Bay, Scarborough, Whitby, Saltburn on sea, Staiths and Rushwick Bay. Would definitely visit again.

      We had an enjoyable stay.

The property was warm and comfortable and good for 2 people (+ our small dog). There’s a pub opposite and a local store too which was handy. Parking is on the road which worked out fine for us but it was quite full occasionally. We always managed to get a spot directly outside near the bus stop, It’s a great location for visiting Robin Hoods Bay(15-20min walk) Whitby and the surrounding area. If you don’t want to drive then the bus is a good option with the bus stop virtually on the doorstep. £4 each (as of Oct 2024) gets you right into the centre of Whitby and back. It also runs past other coastal attractions both north and south.

Moraine is in a stunning location with amazing walks literally from the doorstep. We had a truly wonderful holiday and were lucky enough to enjoy fabulous weather for our entire stay. The cottage itself was comfortable, with everything you need provided (apart from towels, so remember to pack your own!) It really was a home from home and we all appreciated the thoughtful touches such as biscuits and nice coffee left in a basket in the kitchen for us. The garden was very pretty and perfectly safe for our adventurous doggie to play in. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Moraine and would love to go back to Ravenscar ourselves in the future.
